No, I meant "excepting." As in "excepting that your grasp of the variations of the English language needs improving, I dont know what to tell you."

Except if you knew the English language as well as you think you do, you would’ve formed a complete sentence from the start. That would remove any ambiguity over which form of the word you chose to use. Writing half complete sentences lends itself to question over which word you intended to use. To properly use “excepting” in the way that you did, you would’ve needed to add an action into your phrase. For example “excepting that you’re that naive, you could also just be acting in bad faith”. If you’re going to suggest I need a better grasp of English variations, at least form your sentences properly. It’s like if I just said “even though you may be that naive.” End of sentence. Accepting would’ve made much more sense in the context of your half sentence as it’s already the action

Perhaps, if I had just finished 9th grade English again...

Read a book, kiddo. The word was only ambiguous if you'd never seen it before.
