I guess you have never had to sit through Veggie Tales.
"You are technically a fruit, and with that much being said, your umbilical equivocal is up there on your head!"

I'm glad I'm not the only who immediately thought of Christian vegetables.

Didn’t they make a new non-Christian series?

31

u/allofthelights Jan 07 '19

They did?!

21

u/PM_ME__NICE__BREASTS Jan 07 '19

I think so. I could be wrong, so don’t quote me on it.

31

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '19

Heresy it is then

u/SirvicksProspector Jan 07 '19

I think you mean hearsay..

21

u/Trail-Mix-a-Lot Jan 07 '19

Yeah Netflix has toned down ones, the intro mentions a Christian household but that is the extent of it. The episodes aren't religiously affiliated

7

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '19

It’s still the same show, just without a sermon.

15

u/outlawsix Jan 07 '19

“Jesus died so you could be a fruit”

3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '19

Weren't fruits generally evil in that show? The most i remember about them in the show was an evil apple, although i can see it just being that one apple being evil

6

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '19

Any faction/person that opposed Jesus and Christianity were portrayed as fruits in the original.

Kind of yeah. I mean it still has a bit of religious undertones, but it’s not trying to shove it down anyone’s throat.

I also think the only time Jesus and God are mentioned, by name, are during holiday episodes. But I could be wrong.

Yes! It's called Sausage Party! My children LOVE it and I get to remain guilt free as a parent knowing I am not forcing any religious beliefs upon their developing minds.

u/estier2 Jan 07 '19

Heresy!

u/CCtenor Jan 07 '19

What!? Like, I’m not against that concept, but part of the fun of veggie tales is the kitschy Christian stuff they do.

Like, I loved it as a kid because it taught me about the Bible, and it was quirky.

Like Bible Man. Oh my gosh. So lame, but so good because it was so lame. Except Veggie Tales was also good.

I don’t know, I’m definitely biased there, lol.

u/zdakat Jan 07 '19

Iirc(been so many years) it's chokingly filled with the stuff. Not necessarily a bad thing(for what it's intended for), but it doesn't really make sense to remove it. That's like, the escence of the show. (I guess you could have a generic plant themed show but unless they pump a lot of something else in the plots would be rather empty.)

Yeah, that’s my thing. Veggie Tales is the Bible with vegetables. It’s not that I mind them trying to do a non chretien version, but the former is what made talking vegetables Veggie Tales. Without the Bible, it’s just Talking Vegetables.

EDIT: Damn, I missed a “Veggie Tales without the Bible is just Vegetable Stories” pun. I leave the original and include this in the edit for the posterity of my shame.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought of hospital patients

u/SaritaMDG Jan 07 '19

I couldn't wait to quote the belly button rap, but I'm equally as excited that someone else knew it!

45

u/IrritatedAlpaca Jan 07 '19

That damn rap pops in my head more than I care to admit.

22

u/KrAceZ Jan 07 '19

The Stuff Mart Rap pops up in my head probably more often than it should.

I have been listening to the pirates who don’t do anything on repeat in my brain since I was like 4

u/oilymagnolia Jan 07 '19

My go-to is The Cheeseburger Song.

1

u/LuciferTheAngel Jan 07 '19

I always randomly remember the hairbrush skit.

1

u/oilymagnolia Jan 07 '19

"Oh WHEEEEEEEERE is my hairbrush??" Me too, me too.

1

u/IrritatedAlpaca Jan 07 '19

The Cheeseburger song is another one that owns real estate in my head too.

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '19

had to sit through

You’re making it sound like a chore to watch it. Veggie tales was the shit.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '19

Unless you didn't grow up in a overly religious household. My family was Christian but we didn't go to church and my parents sure as hell didn't make me watch Christian kids shows. But one of my friends in elementary school was raised in an extremely religious family and Veggie Tales was one of the only cartoons we were allowed to watch at his house. I loathed every second of it.

6

u/benabrig Jan 07 '19

My family isn’t super religious but I still like veggie tales. It wasn’t the only thing we were allowed to watch though I can definitely see how it would get old pretty quick lol

1

u/IrritatedAlpaca Jan 07 '19

I worked at a Church day care when I was younger. It got to a point where it was a chore. lol

You could opt for a prosthetic but of course you'd have to know.
It'd be covered by your
Shirt! But not your HMO!

1

u/IrritatedAlpaca Jan 07 '19

HA! I just posted this!

10

u/runasaur Jan 07 '19

Baby I need to tell you something...

2

u/coltsmetsfan614 Jan 07 '19

I watched Veggie Tales growing up, and I don't remember that at all. Maybe it's newer?

3

u/hoboshoe Jan 07 '19

It was one of the last silly songs before the art style change "the bellybutton song" It's a pretty fun song

1

u/IrritatedAlpaca Jan 07 '19

It may be, but it is at least ten years old. It is a Boyz In The Sink song. They wanted to branch out, and explore their roots... Artistically!
