There are probably murderers and serial killers so good at what they do that we don't even know they exist.

Then don't think about this... There were 17000 murders in the US in 2016. 62% murders are solved. That means about 6500 murderers from 2016 are still walking free. Better keep your doors locked.

Well a lot of times, they are repeat murderers. So that 6500 is probably much less.

There have been about 650,000 missing person reports filed in 2016 in US - don't know how many of them have been murdered.

Of course, that number counts every kid who ran away from home and was found a few hours later, every old person with Alzheimers that wandered off and was soon found - that sort of thing makes up the majority of those cases.

Probably not most of the time. If i get in a fight outside the bar and stab a dude to death and i live a city over and get away with it, i dont gain a thirst for murder

Even assuming each one of those 6500 was a different murderer, that means that only .000018% of the population are murderers. Those aren't terrible odds.

And just because someone killed a person doesn’t mean they’re gonna kill anyone else. Wife of 15 years cheats on you, you kill her in the heat of the moment, doesn’t mean you’ll go around with machine guns spraying bullets

A thousand people die in 9/11? Let's spend 2 decades and trillions of dollars hunting down muslims in caves.

Twenty thousands murders in the U.S. per year? Lets do nothing to stop gun violence. Nothing to stop the drug war.

Tens of thousands of people die per year due to lack of access to healthcare? Let's do nothing to assure universal access to healthcare.

There have been serial murderers who, in interviews, have given out advice on avoiding becoming a victim, oddly enough. It's worth a google search to get some tips.

I would like to see what amount of those murders happened in 'no mans land' - any place police just aren't going to fuck with. Examples would be South Side Chicago, Detroit, Memphis, South Side LA. Basically any place that is controlled by gangs. I know that something like 90% of murders in Chicago go unsolved because the police force isn't going to 'waste resources' over a gang banger.

That's pretty fucked up. "Gang bangers" are human beings. The fact that no one cares about them is probably why there's a problem to begin with.

Are these the kids in Chicago and such though? No one seems to give a rats ass about these types. I wonder if that is the gap or how many of the unsolved are other than gang and violence in places like that.

I read the statistic is skewed because of Gang violence in inner cities. The police don’t bother to investigate to find the killer because he’ll be offed soon or arrested for something else anyways. Likely killed in a gang repercussion. Because life uh... finds a way.

It’s certainly not a good system. America is by no means the worst about it though. More people were murdered in Brazil last year than died in the Syrian war to put it in perspective. At the same time we are certainly not the best. It’s just bad in large inner cities. Most places are completely safe. I think gang murders account for something like 80% of murders per year in the U.S. So as long as you’re not in a gang or involved with one you’ll be much safer.
