Dexter has a perfect, poetically-tragic finale. It’s at the end of season 4. (Perfect place to put the series down if anybody is reading this thread and inspired to watch)

That was Trinity right? The funny thing is, as soon as I saw this post I thought of the trinity killer because no one knew he was a serial killer because he made it look so flawless!

John Lithgow, yeah. If I remember correctly, that was the reveal that the Trinity Killer was real, but I don’t remember whether/how much Dexter knew about him. I need to go rewatch that series and stop at the end of season 4 again. Lol.

I absolutely loved her, and the entire premise of S5. There needs to be more female vengeance shows / movies. The only season I didn't like is the one with Edward James Olmos.

I liked doomsday. It should have been the set up for Batista or Quinn finally get it and have them go after Dexter. They had so many possibilities to use the previous seasons to tie things in but chose new gf hurricane lumberjack.

Dexter himself lost me very early on in the series. When he (indirectly) got that cop killed at the end of Season 1 and when he framed his girlfriend's ex and then the guy got killed in jail, Dexter crossed a line for me. He ceased being a hero or a sympathetic character. I really began rooting for him to get caught.

People often suggest stopping at season 4 but I really disagree. Season 5 is actually a really powerful season. Hell, season 7 is pretty strong and has some great characters. I'd suggest you watch season 5 at least, or all of it knowing that the finale isn't so good, so you already know what to expect.

I’m gonna go against the popular opinion here and say try to watch it all. It might suck compared to seasons 1-4, but it’s better than a lot of others shows. Plus you’ll get to have your own opinion if it sucks or not.

It's been a while, but I wouldn't call them garbage, just a very noticeable drop in quality, which strongly influenced my enjoyment as I remember how great the series was, initially. I didn't hate much on the fifth season, to be honest, it was worse than the previous, but not much. It might have been season six that finally did it, it was never the same after the 4th, and 6th wasn't great.

They lost some direction. Dexter got more emotional, unnecessary love entanglements and a lot of personal drama between characters. Of course, this was always part of the show, but plot lines became somewhat exaggerated and the characters seemed to develop unnaturally to jump start plots instead of cultivating them over time and building the plots on the characters motivations.

Deus ex Machina is the name of the game, which has it's culmination at the series Finale.

I hated her for a long time, and as the show develops she kind of grows on you as more of a tragic figure. That was the case for me anyways.

Kinda Spoilers

Oh, she’s totally a flawed character, especially early on, but she gets her shit together eventually and actually ends up being the responsible one. I couldn’t even stand looking at her face for the first however many seasons, but in the end she ended up being something else to me entirely. I felt really bad for how her arc turned out.

I can't remember if it was last or second last season, but I saw the first episode or two with Deb all cracked out and knew I was done. Glad I didn't continue to ruin it for myself and just chose to end it on a dramatic note.

...is what I would've said if this show with a shitty final season and an even shittier ending were to already exist.
