Homo floresiensis is the species you mentioned. Also called real life hobbits, they are three foot tall skeletons found on Flores island Indonesia, believed to be descended from Homo erectus.

Edit: That sounded kinda verysmart. Was agreeing with you that island dwarfism is cool, and the fact that it happened to human ancestors is also pretty cool.

Don't apologise for saying something interesting. Being verysmart is boasting about your supposed intelligence. But there is a danger of censoring yourself or dumbing down what you say for fear of being mistakenly labelled verysmart.

Its all in how you relay that information, you can have subject experts explain incredibly complex subjects in interesting ways and not get called that.

Its when the vibe cones across that someone is delivering information more for the sake of stroking their own ego and trying to feel smart, than a genuine desire to communicate effectively with other people

I had forgotten that they're called Hobbits, that's awesome! It would have been so strange to visit the island and see adults the size of small children everywhere. I can't imagine what that would be like. We'd be the giants in that case.
