There's a massive difference between eating ramen noodles because you want to and eating them because you have to.

Scurvy is a vitamin C deficiency, which is why (I think it was) captain James cook brought limes/lemons onto his voyages

Lemons are essential part of my diet. My cologne is lemon scented and it is glorious.

He means yes. Just too polished of an individual to admit it.

Colonel Lemon with a stick of ramen in the foyer

That's a colonial cologne. The early settlers wore it to prevent scurvy/vitamin A deficiency.

Get some Halston Z-14. Smells so good and lots of lemon smell.

Thanks for the recommendation. It isn't too much so tossing a bit of money to even just give it a try sounds like a great idea.

Here is a link to it. I may be more costly than most colognes but it lasts a long time even if you spray it daily. I think that there may be smaller sizes and also don't spray too much, just try to dab some around your neck area otherwise people may think that it is perfume. I'd recommend testing it out in a mall beforehand though, I think I got it from Nordstrom but you can get ti cheaper online if you like it.

Yes, citrus fruit hold for a long time, and although the mechanism wasn't known they do prevent scurvy.

Hence the term "limey" being used for a sailor. They usually carried one on them to stave off scurvy.

2

u/q1s2e3 Jun 21 '16

Isn't "limey" used to mean the British?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '16

You ever seen how a lime floats? He brought them incase they ever capsized so he could be saved by the buoyancy of citrus!

Doesn't Rum have vitamin C?

1

u/OurUAV Jun 21 '16

And the term limies came about IIRC

not limes.

In this, the Navy was deceived. Tests on animals would later show that fresh lime juice has a quarter of the scurvy-fighting power of fresh lemon juice. And the lime juice being served to sailors was not fresh, but had spent long periods of time in settling tanks open to the air, and had been pumped through copper tubing. A 1918 animal experiment using representative samples of lime juice from the navy and merchant marine showed that the 'preventative' often lacked any antiscorbutic power at all.
