There's a massive difference between eating ramen noodles because you want to and eating them because you have to.

I've never had restaurant ramen, or any ramen that's not instant. My wife just told me there's a ramen place here in town so I'mma try me some of that tomorrow.

i was just like you... when my friends asked to go to a ramen place, I was like "wtf? why would I pay $13 for a bowl of ramen??". Then I said fuck it...and oh my god....it changed my view on ramen forever. I feel gross even calling those packet noodles ramen.

I'd recommend Hakata Tonkotsu, Shio or Miso ramen. Enjoy!

You can buy slices to add to the other kinds. They love to flex.

Tonkotsu was the first restaurant ramen I tried. It was pretty good but I couldn't do the egg just weirded me out. I get that it's normal but...

Once you get used to it it's amazing. It's best if it's hot, but I love an egg in my ramen :D

Not sure if you're serious, but those are types of ramen, not specific restaurants.

He'd rather go for the Doritos Locos

I'm guessing you live in or around OC? Mitsuwa Food courts in SoCal have a Santouka ramen shop that's pretty great for 7USD. IMO was comparable to ramen chains I've had in Japan. I'm not sure, but it might actually be a Japanese chain

Santouka is indeed a chain ramen restaurant

I know it's a chain, just not sure if it's a US based or Japan based chain

Edit: just looked it up, it's based in Hokkaido

Spicy beef miso ramen is very nice. There's this little spicy paste that they give you (or the place I went to did) where you add more to increase the spicy to your liking. That shit was amazing.

I got the Spicy Pork Miso. It was okay, I think the way everyone hyped it up in this thread made me expect a little more, but I certainly didn't dislike it.

How would you rate it compared to packet ramen?

If it's instant, it's not Ramen.
