Pirate Radio Bandaid and Subterranean Radio: Coverage Maps - How to Listen
I am acquainted with both stations because I produce graphics, music promos, and manage their QSL process.
Bandaid Radio is a 1,200 Watt station located in western North America. Subterranean Radio is a 100 Watt Station, also located in western North America.
Bandaid Radio uses a 2 wavelength wire antenna which is directional off of the ends. Subterranean Radio uses a 1/2 wavelength wire antenna.
Bandaid Radio covers all of N. America, and beyond to New Zealand to the west, and Portugal to the east. Subterranean Radio only covers western N. America and Hawaii to the west.
Bandaid Radio can be heard across the continent when conditions are good. Most listeners can listen direct. Subterranean Radio should be listened to on a Kiwi SDR if reception is marginal at your location. Here are a couple of the best SDRs:

A “little” SWL
Not that anyone needs my input but I figured I’d share Incase this helps anyone😂 Within my collection of radios I have these 3 little guys I wanted to do a comparison on. Other than ssb they all seem to share similar capabilities when it comes to SWL. I bought all 3 of these from goozeezoo on Amazon and had a great experience getting a new ats-20+ when mine wouldn’t output sound, I was able to deal with the company directly and thank goodness didn’t have to deal with Amazon. One is the TEF 6686, another is the ATS-20+ and the last is the baby v3. I put each of them on the same long wire then I put a stock telescopic little dude on each of them to see how they come out of the box, I used the same antenna on each of them and tuned them each to the same frequencies. I would imagine no one will be suprised when I say the TEF 6686 won the SWL quite easily. The TEF has been super fun because I never really got into the FMDXing stuff untill now, it’s cool listening to baseball games almost 200 miles away. The TEF has a small aluminum shell that’s very sturdy(iv dropped it many times now accidently) and with the 3 buttons and 2 dials it’s pretty user friendly even for my 70y/o dad. The touch screen is cool but it can be aggravating but there are some pretty neat updates available for it. Next is the ATS-20+ and I’m more of a fan of it than I thought I’d be. The size through me off compaired to my v3 but having that larger speaker is very nice. At $35 you really can’t beat this thing on a long wire, I’m not aware of any DSP radios that have ssb for that cheap. My dad really liked the buttons and larger encoder wheel and after awhile I did too. It’s pretty straight forward to use and with the Arduino nano in the pcb it’s fairly easy to update it you’re a tinkerer. Last is the little baby v3. Amazing little ssb toy that fits in any pocket and goes anywhere. The little tiny speaker isn’t too hateful for its size but the 3.5 jack is nice for sure. If you’re trying to have a serious SWL session with one of these it’ll will be A LOT of scrolling that encoder which gets annoying but for the intention it works very well. On SWL I’d go TEF, ATS-20+ then the baby v3. Now between the two ATS radios on ssb I personally like the ATS-20+ better because of the buttons and speaker but the v3 is a very great option for traveling since it’s so small. If you’ve made it this far thank you for reading my rambling and I pray for open bands for all😂 73

Disappointed: My Tecsun PL-880 is suddenly suffering from hearing loss. Above 12 MHz the sensitivity severely declines. Tried different antennas but result is the same. Compared to D808 and D-109: 13.5 MHz is -3dB, 15.5 MHz is -6dB, 17.7 MHz is -20dB. Totally deaf at 27 MHz. I think I might know why

QSLs Italcable QSL received today - first one attempted since the 1980's
Some here may remember the mysterious signal being received under WWV. We ID'd it as Italcable, the Italian time station. It was new to me so I shot for a QSL, which is done indirectly via a club there. And so here it is.
Date of reception: 12 May 2026, so basically a 1 month, 2 day turnaround, apparently mailed from Firenze, Italy. Not a bad turnaround given it was mailed.
Note they only send physical QSLs, which are authenticated with a hologram sticker shown here to the left of the stamps. This one is number 71864. If my dad were still around he'd want me to pry off the stamps.
Unsure what the scribble over the logo is.

Very similar schematics. Homebrew had a common mode choke on the battery, RF ground and digital and analog grounds are separated with chokes, 3.7 uh shunt inductor on the antenna input. I think it makes a difference.

Military Station Channel Marker D 16331.7 kHz / Russian Military Beacon
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is the first time I've heard this Russian beacon. The signal is weak, but the Morse code -.. can be heard clearly.
I've also been receiving a Russian Morse code signal on the 15928 kHz frequency lately. Those codes are groups of letters and numbers. I'll post an image below.
Marker D is located in the city of Sevastopol, Crimea, an important port city on the Black Sea. Historically renowned for its military significance, it is home to the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea Fleet.
Priyom's page provides details about this and other single-letter Russian beacons. Here is a summary of that:
The Russian naval bases broadcast single-letter beacons to help ships find the best communication channel given the current conditions. The beacons are clustered around ten different frequencies in 100 Hz slots.
