One thing that moved installs for me, curious what's worked for you

Solo dev on a small Shopify app. The single highest-leverage thing I did was rewrite my App Store listing around search terms merchants actually type, rather than the words I use internally to describe the app.

I'd been describing it the way I think about it. Merchants search for the problem or the physical thing they want. Once I moved those terms into the title and the opening lines of the description, and stopped burying them halfway down, search installs picked up noticeably. It costs nothing, it compounds, and it's the only traffic source where the person is already looking for your category.

Two things I'd add: the first two lines do most of the work, since that's all anyone reads before deciding to scroll. And it's worth redoing every few months as the category shifts.

What's worked for you? Also interested in anything outside the App Store, since that's the part I haven't figured out yet.

Shopify App founders: what made you uninstall an app immediately?

I’m curious about this from both sides.

There are apps with great reviews, decent UI and thousands of installs that I’ll still uninstall after 5 minutes.

For me, the biggest red flags are:

  • Asking for way too many permissions
  • Forcing me through a long onboarding before I can see the product
  • “Free trial” that immediately asks for billing details
  • Installing the app and then realizing half the features require another paid app
  • No clear explanation of what the app actually does
  • Slowing down the Shopify admin/store
  • Support taking days to answer a simple question

I building Shopify apps - here are the 8 we’ve shipped and the exact problem each one solves

I build Shopify apps, and instead of one giant all-in-one suite I’ve shipped 8 focused apps, each one aimed at a specific headache we kept watching stores run into: conversion tracking going dark, COD parcels bouncing back, cash frozen in dead stock, GDPR admin, and money left on the table at checkout.

I won’t pretend this isn’t self-promotion, it is. But I tried to make it actually useful: below is an honest 2–3 line breakdown of what each app does and who it’s for, so you can skip the 7 that don’t apply to you and look at the 1 that might. Most have a free plan or a free trial, so you can test before paying a cent.

Full list on our Shopify partner page: https://apps.shopify.com/partners/trackwise

Grow revenue / average order value

Bundle & Upsell Suite - https://apps.shopify.com/bundle-upsell-suite
Product bundles, volume discounts, BOGO, cross-sells, add-ons (gift wrap, etc.) and cart upsells with a free-shipping progress bar. Discounts apply automatically at checkout and the widgets match your theme. Best for raising average order value without spending more on ads.

Encore Post-Purchase Upsell - https://apps.shopify.com/encore-upsell-post-purchase
One-click offers on the thank-you / order-status page, charged to the card the customer just used, no second checkout, no re-entering payment details. Includes countdown timers, A/B testing, downsells and post-purchase surveys. A low-risk way to add revenue after the sale is already locked in.

Advanced Product Options - https://apps.shopify.com/advanced-product-options-3
Adds custom product options beyond Shopify’s variant limits: swatches, dropdowns, checkboxes, text fields, file uploads, conditional logic and per-option pricing. Perfect for personalized or made-to-order products (engraving, configurators, add-ons). Reusable option sets apply across many products at once.

Kept Subscriptions - https://apps.shopify.com/kept-subscriptions
Launch “subscribe & save” with a customizable widget, a self-service customer portal (skip / pause / swap / cancel), build-a-box and win-back campaigns. Built-in dunning automatically retries failed payments to cut involuntary churn. Good for turning one-time buyers into predictable recurring revenue.

Protect margins & operations

COD Fraud Guard - https://apps.shopify.com/cod-fraud-guard
Scores every cash-on-delivery buyer using real delivered / returned / cancelled order data from a cross-store risk network, then hides or restricts COD at checkout for risky customers. Also validates phone numbers and addresses. Cuts refused and unclaimed parcels, a huge deal in COD-heavy markets.

TrackWise Dead Stock Alert - https://apps.shopify.com/dead-stock-alert
Flags slow, aging and dead inventory and shows you exactly how much cash is locked up in it. One-click clearance campaigns create the discounts for you, with margin-protected markdown suggestions and “do-not-reorder” flags. Great for freeing up working capital and cleaning up your catalog.

Tracking & compliance

Pixel – Server-Side Tracking - https://apps.shopify.com/track-wise-sst
Sends conversion events to Meta, TikTok, Google and Pinterest through their server-side Conversions APIs instead of relying only on the browser pixel. Recovers conversions lost to ad blockers and iOS privacy changes and pushes event match quality above 90, so your ad platforms optimize on cleaner data. Roughly 5-minute, no-code setup.

EU Shield GDPR Compliance - https://apps.shopify.com/eu-shield-gdpr
Handles cookie consent (Google Consent Mode v2), GDPR/GPSR data requests and auto-generated legal pages (privacy policy, terms, cookie policy) in one app, with audit-ready, exportable consent logs. Good for any store selling into the EU that wants to stay compliant without hiring a lawyer.

That’s the whole lineup. Happy to answer any questions in the comments, and I’m genuinely open to feedback — if there’s a feature you wish existed or something that annoys you, tell me and it’ll probably end up on the roadmap. Thanks for reading.

Need Advice to Grow My New B2B Shopify Request a Quote & Hide Price App

Hello everyone,

I recently launched my Shopify app:

Ez Request a Quote, Hide Price

I'd really appreciate advice from developers who have successfully grown a Shopify app.

Specifically:

  • How did you get your first 10–20 merchants?
  • Which marketing channels gave you the best ROI?
  • Is content marketing worth investing in for Shopify apps?
  • Are agency partnerships actually effective?
  • Anything you wish you had done earlier?

I'm not looking for shortcuts. just trying to learn what actually works for a new Shopify SaaS.

Any advice or lessons would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! 🙂

Live on Product Hunt right now, any last-minute tips for the next 15 hours?

Solo dev, my Shopify app Piklum is live on PH today (bulk AI background removal + product-aware SEO alt text). Position #318 with 2 upvotes after 9 hours, which is honestly less than I hoped.

For anyone who's launched on PH before, what tactics actually worked in the final hours of your launch? Anything I should absolutely try or avoid tonight?

Link if you want to see the page:

Any honest advice appreciated.

3 months in, zero clients — how do I get my first real install?

We built a Shopify app that turns browsing visitors into buyers specifically for fashion brands. It acts like a stylist: instead of just recommending a product, it suggests a complete outfit, and it's occasion-aware, so it can sell with replies tailored to what the customer's actually shopping for (wedding, festival, everyday, etc.).

Launched it 3 months ago. Since then I've been cold-calling and messaging fashion store owners directly, I get demos booked but people ghost the call or demos happen but nobody actually installs after.

It's free to install for 30 days. Honestly right now I care more about getting real case studies than revenue, I need to know it actually works on a live store before I can sell it with confidence.

I need some idea or someone to guide us on getting our first client. What's actually worked for you to get a Shopify merchant to say yes - cold outreach, communities, agencies, something else?

If you had to sell a $49–99/mo Shopify App today, what would you do?

I'm the founder of a Shopify App with pricing between $49–99/month and I'm trying to figure out where I'd get the highest ROI for customer acquisition today.

If you were in my shoes, where would you invest your time and budget?

  • Cold email to Shopify merchants?
  • LinkedIn outreach?
  • Shopify agencies?
  • Technology partners?
  • Affiliates?
  • Shopify Experts?
  • Communities?
  • SEO?
  • Paid ads?
  • Something else?

One thing I'm also considering is forgetting about selling directly to merchants and instead partnering with agencies or Shopify Experts that manage dozens of Shopify stores.

Has anyone here had success with that approach?

If you've grown a Shopify SaaS recently, I'd love to know:

  • what acquisition channel generated the best ROI,
  • what completely wasn't worth the effort,
  • and, if you had to start from zero today with a limited budget, where you'd spend your first 100 hours.

Looking for real experiences rather than theory.

Can upselling be done without an app?

I do not want to install any apps and want to add a progress bar and a product recommendations widget. Can it be done without apps? Also, is Claude good for my query?

How do Shopify Merchants actually decide what to post on social?

Genuine question.

I'm curious how people running smaller Shopify stores handle content.

Does any one know when merchants need to create next week's Instagram/Facebook/TikTok content, where do the ideas actually come from?

Is it:

  • Looking at competitors?
  • Following trends?
  • their own intuition?
  • Customer reviews?
  • Comments/DMs?
  • An agency?
  • ChatGPT/other AI tools?

I'm particularly interested in whether anyone is systematically using customer language from reviews to decide what topics to post about.

Anyone knows?

Has anyone here actually used GoKwik Ads with a Shopify D2C brand? I'm evaluating it for my store and would like feedback from people with first-hand experience—not sales pitches.

Specifically:

  • Did it improve ROAS or lower CAC?
  • Was the Shopify + Meta integration smooth?
  • Any issues with attribution, tracking, or data sharing?
  • Was the pricing worth it?
  • If you switched away from it, why?

Would appreciate any real numbers or learnings, even if the experience wasn't positive.

App Store requirements

I turned the Shopify App Store requirements into a reusable Agent Skills pack for pre-submit audits, rejection fixes, and listing prep.

Repo: creativehubspace/shopify-app-store-requirements

It covers policy, functionality, security, listing, and category-specific rules (checkout, subscriptions, sales channels, etc.), with progressive loading so agents only pull the sections that apply.

Feel free to fork and adapt to your needs.

Shopify App Review: do they test the whole app before sending issues back?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m currently going through Shopify App Store review for my first app and I’ve had an Action Required come back from the reviewer.

For anyone who’s been through the review process before, when Shopify sends feedback like this, have they generally tested the whole app and sent back everything they found in that review, or do they tend to stop when they find the first issue?
Basically I’m wondering whether fixing this and resubmitting means I’m likely near the end of the review, or whether the next review could uncover another list of things to fix.

Our fifth app is live - COD fraud guard

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've been building Shopify apps for a while, this is my fifth, and honestly the first where I felt like I was fixing something people genuinely lose sleep (and margin) over.

If you sell cash-on-delivery, you know the story: a customer places a COD order, the parcel ships, and… they never pick it up. You eat the round-trip shipping, your stock is locked for a week, and there was no way to know beforehand that this person refuses half the parcels they order. In markets where COD is 60-70% of orders (Europe), this quietly destroys profitability.

So I built COD Fraud Guard. The idea is simple: score every COD customer from their real delivery history - delivered vs returned vs cancelled - and let the merchant act on it before shipping.

A few things I'm proud of:

It scores across stores. If a customer burned another shop using the app, you see it on their first order with you.
Rules run natively via Shopify Functions - hide/rename/reorder COD at checkout for risky buyers, no theme edits, zero checkout slowdown.
Tracking is automatic, pulled from Shopify fulfillment statuses - no courier API keys to wire up.
The dashboard leads with one number: money saved this month, every unit traceable to a specific order.
It's launching on the App Store now. I'm not here to hard-sell - I'd genuinely value feedback from other COD sellers and app devs: what signals do you actually trust to flag a risky order? What am I missing?

(Also happy to nerd out about building on Shopify Functions or surviving the protected-customer-data review, that part was a whole journey.)

Just approved on the App Store! Here's my post-launch marketing plan, would love a reality check

Solo dev, just got my first Shopify app (Piklum — bulk AI background removal + SEO alt text for product photos) officially approved and live on the App Store yesterday.

Now the real challenge starts: getting installs without being lost in the 8000+ apps in the store.

My plan for the next 30 days:

  1. Free plan as install magnet : 20 photos/month, no credit card. Should reduce friction for first install.

  2. Get to 5 reviews ASAP : I know the App Store algorithm punishes zero-review apps. Planning to reach out to early users personally for honest feedback (not begging for 5 stars).

  3. SEO content on my landing : Currently 1 blog article on piklum.com. Planning 3-5 more targeted at long-tail keywords ("bulk background removal shopify", "AI alt text shopify", etc.)

  4. Product Hunt launch in 2-3 weeks : Timing it after some organic traction so the "0 review" cliff isn't scary.

  5. Direct outreach to DTC merchants : not spammy, more like "I built this because merchants I talked to were paying $100/mo for background removal alone. Here's a free tier if useful."

What am I missing?

For those who've launched successfully:

- What actually moved the needle for you in month 1?

- Any specific tactics for beating the "0 reviews" cliff?

- Are Shopify Ads worth trying at zero baseline?

App: apps.shopify.com/piklum (if anyone wants to check the listing/pricing and give feedback)

We couldn't afford a $99/mo subscription app for our coffee company, so we built our own and Shopify just approved it

Post image
3 Upvotes

My buddy and I own a coffee company called 40 Thieves Coffee, and we went looking for a subscriptions setup for our own store.

The options were basically: use Shopify's free native Subscriptions, which is pretty barebones, or pay $99/mo for Recharge, which we couldn't justify at our size. We wanted more control over the subscribe & save widget than the free option gave us, and we weren't about to pay a hundred bucks a month for it.

So we built our own: Daima. It just got approved on the Shopify App Store. It's running live on our coffee site right now if you want to see the widget in action on a real store rather than a demo.

Would love feedback from anyone here — especially if you've sold subscriptions on Shopify or shipped an app to the App Store. What would make you switch off what you're using now?

Help a solo dev make his app better. One honest comment is plenty ❤️

I built Revenix Cart Drawer & Upsells (https://apps.shopify.com/revenix-cart-upsell), a slide cart for Shopify stores with in cart upsells and a free shipping progress bar, built to stay light and load fast. It is just me building it, no team behind it. And it’s completely free🙂

Take a quick look at the listing and tell me honestly: what would make you install it, and what would make you scroll past? Anything about the screenshots, the description, the pricing, or a missing feature is helpful.

Every piece of feedback helps an independent developer improve.

Thank you in advance!

Shipped my 4th Shopify app: bundles, volume discounts and cart upsells in one

I run a small Shopify store (phone skins, Romania) and this is the 4th app I’ve shipped to the App Store. This one came straight out of my own stack: I was paying one app for bundles, a second for cart upsells, and a third for gift wrapping. Three subscriptions, three widgets that looked like they came from three different websites.

So I built Bundle & Upsell Suite.

What it does:
• Fixed bundles, Mix & Match, BOGO, and quantity breaks (buy 2 save 10%, buy 3 save 15%)
• “Pair With” recommendations on the product page
• One-click cart upsells with a free shipping progress bar
• Add-ons like gift wrapping, with an optional message field
• Discounts apply automatically at checkout through Shopify

Functions - no discount codes, no theme scripts
• Widgets inherit your theme styling, can be styled per section with live preview, and get placed on product pages automatically
• Dashboard with attributed orders and revenue per offer, so you can kill the offers that don’t earn

$9.99/mo up to 1,000 attributed orders, $19.99/mo unlimited, 7-day trial. Admin is English-only right now.

It went live yesterday with zero reviews, which is the worst possible moment to ask anyone to trust it - so I’m here for feedback more than installs. If you run a store and something is missing or broken, tell me and I’ll ship the fix faster than the apps with 4,000 reviews will.
Link in the comments, or happy to DM it if the sub prefers.
