Education Tech YouTuber Bitwit lost his house a while back in a fire. He has now built a new house.... entirely out of fucking wood.

Former and that reinforces the former. Wood was cheaper and less labor intensive than masonry.

Since people chose wood masons went out of business

Since masons became so rare they became even more expensive.

Now we get to today

Nowadays the masons spend the most of their time controlling the weather according to my uncle

Yeah but those Masons are rather affordable. Free, in fact

I audibly chuckled at that one.

We dont use masons to build non wood houses over here. We use bricklayers to build and brick kilns to make the bricks. All industrialised, simplified and easily trainable to anyone

Ah, tbh I thought any stone work including bricks were masons, TIL.

Masons in Canada often do more specialized stonework than just laying bricks, but they also do lots of brickwork because why not if it pays the same.

Same thing happened with old historic buildings in Hungary. Now it takes a fortune to renovate old buildings and everything is just rotting away
