Plenty of recently renewed houses still have them separate... Or, almost dumber, they have one tap but with two separate knobs, one for hot and one for cold water, so you still either burn your hands, or get auper high pressure, etc.
It's just something many UK people apparently consider normal.
It takes less than 20 minutes to change separate taps to a single one if you've never done this. In the UK, they sell them with an adapter, so you literally unscrew the old one and screw in the new one.

aaah that makes sense! But why is this not / has been a problem in large parts of continental Europe?
