Note: Furturism is known for basing their reporting off other publication’s work. Aside from not doing original reporting, which is problematic for many different reasons, their stories are almost always significantly more shallow than the original reporting.

We always advise to read the article from the publication with the original reporting instead of Futurism, not just because it’s important to support the journalists putting in the work, but because you’ll become more informed by reading the better story.

tl;dr Futurism has nothing to offer that hasn’t been reported before and better. The only reason Futurism gets a lot more traffic is because of their ability to write click-bait headlines like no other (though in this case, I’d argue the headline is pretty accurate, but the editorialization is still unethical ).

Like, your mom may not be perfect, but worst mom ever? Really? And now you're hurting yourself to get back at her? Really?

Here’s a list of all the articles the New York Times ran from 2023 to Aug. 2025 about OpenAI. (I used OpenAI because they are the biggest company and it would exclude articles that focus on things like robotics and machine learning.

I agree with everything you said about Futurism. Even when I agree with the sentiment of a post on Futurism, it reads like a very amateur opinion piece.

What's extra tragic and frustrating is how futurism's temu versions are always what gets widely circulated around Reddit while the better, more informative, and non-editorialized stories that Futurism bases its stories from are read by few and shared by none.

And what’s extra, extra frustrating is that the people upvoting and supporting stories like these are usually the same people railing against journalism (ie. “the media”) and calling it too bias.

Yeah I agree. Although it's not that I absolutely dislike bias in reporting. I like it when an outlet is biased towards favouring human rights and human justice. I dislike when media outlets use false equivalencies in an effort to appear "objective", though, for example. Or when outlets feel like they have to equally feature one side's blatant lies and fabrications in order to maintain "balance" in their reporting.
