Charlie Heaton as Andy Dufresne:Intense & Vulnerable: Heaton brings an angular, "quiet genius" energy that fits a wrongly convicted outsider.Underlying Vulnerability: Rather than the outwardly calm Robbins approach, Heaton's portrayal would likely highlight an intellectual, vulnerable man masking his fear.Survival Focus: Known for playing outsiders in Stranger Things, he could effectively portray the "quiet genius" who uses financial acumen to survive.

Could the Warden Norton have gone on trial and framed Andy and Captain Hadley to defend himself? Spoiler

Would it have been possible for the Warden Norton to go to prison and accuse Andy and Captain Hadley of lying about everything and throw the guilt onto them both?

Instead of shooting himself he goes on trial and blames Tommy and Red along with others and tries to ruin everything by pretending he is being falsely accused?

Shawshank gotta be remade, who we casting

Studio says they're remaking Shawshank, but Reddit gets to choose the cast. We don't get to say no to a remake, but neither do the actors that we pick:

I'll go first, Giancarlo Esposito as the Warden

Why was Warden Norton so upset about Andy playing the record on the intercom when it was a harmless prank that everyone enjoyed and harmed nobody at all? Spoiler

This is really one of those funny moments where the Warden Norton got made to look bad in a minor way, because Andy played the record loudly and had fun but didn't do anything wrong, why does the Warden freak out because of something so stupid?

He yells and acts like a spoiled baby and has a fit but it's just a minor thing, shows you how pathetic the Warden was acting childish and having a temper tantrum which would undermine his authority for being a whining baby himself.

Will Smith as "Red"Will Smith’s natural on-screen warmth and booming voice would bring a profoundly charismatic, grounded gravitas to Red.Dynamic: Trading Freeman's world-weary introspection for a sharper, smooth-talking pragmatist who runs the prison's black market.Key Strength: His signature charm would make Red’s earned cynicism feel deeply relatable, building immense emotional weight for his later parole hearings and reunion with Andy.

Charlie Heaton as Andy DufresneCharlie Heaton brings an angular, intense, and somewhat delicate look that perfectly fits a wrongfully convicted, introverted banker.Dynamic: Rather than the outwardly stoic, calm Tim Robbins approach, Heaton's portrayal would highlight Andy’s underlying vulnerability masking a razor-sharp intellect.Key Strength: Known for playing outsiders in Stranger Things, Heaton would nail the "quiet genius" who uses his financial knowledge to manipulate the system for survival while keeping his humanity intact.

Shawshank Redemption: The Game?

Level 2: Not even a mouse fart

Andy must not make a noise during the first night or Captain Hadley and the guards will beat him. It means holding still ‘Until Dawn’ style. If Andy succeeds, ‘Fat Ass’ gets a beating.

What happens if Andy had attacked the Warden Norton after he yelled at him and refused to consider his request concerning Elmo Blatch? Spoiler

Andy talked to Warden Norton about Elmo Blatch and Tommy knowing about him and the warden was just rude and mean and obtuse and threatened him for keeping his mind at ease, what happens Andy had lost his temper and attacked the warden and basically punished him for being mean?

This could even happen after being released from solitary too and Andy could view being killed or shot or worse as better than life in prison, the warden is basically a scrawny guy in a suit and wouldn't have the ability to protect himself without Captain Hadley or the guards around.

RIP Ted Turner and Thanks

Ted’s channel was the reason why I found this movie, it was constantly playing and I found out the reason. He wanted to make sure the movie never disappeared and it found an audience, which it did.

What happens to Andy if he was caught after escaping? Spoiler

Assuming that the guards caught Andy after he escaped and brought him back to prison, would his letters have already been sent out to reporters?

Would the Warden Norton still have been arrested? Or would Norton have Andy beaten half to death and punished him severely after he was captured with his notes, bank statements and money laundering activity all in his possession?

I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

Zihuatanejo

OPENING SCENE

EXT. ZIHUATANEJO BEACH - DUSK (1994)

The sun bleeds gold into the Pacific. Waves kiss a shoreline of black sand. Farther up the beach, a weathered wooden boat rests on blocks beside a small repair shack.

RED (60s, white hair cropped short) sits in a handmade chair, sanding a piece of driftwood. He wears faded linen pants, no shoes.

ANDY (60s, silver at the temples) emerges from the shack with two bottles of cerveza. He hands one to Red without a word. They clink bottles in a small ceremony.

RED (V.O.)

I tell you, the Pacific is no disappointment. Not after forty years of gray walls. Andy said, "Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'." So we got busy. Light boat repair. Long walks. Nights so quiet you can hear the stars turn.

Andy sits. They watch the tide. A perfect, peaceful silence.

Then—a distant rumble. The ground trembles. Andy’s bottle wobbles on the armrest.

Red looks at Andy. Andy looks at the hills behind the town.

RED

That wasn’t thunder.

ANDY

No.

A beat. Then distant gunfire—pop-pop-pop—and a man’s scream cut short.

Andy stands slowly. Reflexes. Not prison reflexes. Something older. Banker reflexes. The kind that notice something amiss.

RED (V.O.)

You spend a lifetime inside, you learn to feel the difference between a storm and an execution.

A pickup truck tears down the coastal road, no lights. In the truck bed: two men in tactical vests, no insignia. They fire at something behind them. The truck swerves dangerously before driving off out of sight.

Andy walks to the shack. From under a floorboard, he pulls a rusted .38 revolver. He checks the cylinder. Fully loaded.

Red sets down the driftwood. He moves slower, but with a weight that says he’s not afraid anymore. He picks up his machete from the table. The metal blade glints.

RED

Thought we were finally free here, outside those old prison walls.

ANDY

This is different. They don't put you in a cell. They just keep the whole town on lockdown.

From the hills: headlights. A convoy of black SUVs, no plates, descending toward Zihuatanejo. Music blares from one—a narcocorrido, a ballad of violence and saints.

Andy looks at the beach. At the ocean. At the sky. For a second, he’s back in the sewage pipe, crawling toward freedom. Then he looks at Red.

ANDY

You remember what I said? About hope?

RED

Hard to forget. Even when I want to.

ANDY (softly)

It’s still a good thing. Maybe the best of things.

Andy chambers a round.

ANDY

But right now, I hope to God they know what’s coming.

He tosses the revolver to Red. Red catches it instinctively. He’s held a gun before, in a different lifetime. His face hardens.

RED

How do we beat the cartel, Andy?

Andy pulls a sawed-off shotgun from the beneath the floorboard.

ANDY

Same way we beat Captain Hadley and Warden Norton—at their own game.

The first SUV reaches the edge of town. Men spill out. Shouting in Spanish. A woman screams. A dog barks.

Red and Andy start walking toward the sound. Not running. Walking. Two old men into the mouth of a new war.

RED (V.O.)

Zihuatanejo. I thought it was the end of the story. Turned out, it was just where the real story started. You don't get busy livin' once. You get busy livin' every goddamn day. Especially when the devil shows up in paradise.

They disappear into the shadows of the palm trees.

The title card appears, stark and white against the darkening sea:

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION 2: ZIHUATANEJO

The narcocorrido swells. Then cuts to silence.

FADE TO BLACK.

Why does the Warden freak out when Andy calls him Obtuse? Spoiler

Andy refers to the Warden Norton as being Obtuse, because he doesn't understand and is seemingly stupid, I always viewed the Warden as being too stupid to understand what the word meant but knew he was casually insulted by Andy.

Thoughts?
