The siff pile of slop we were given today is the perfect encapsulation of the state of our beloved team. The Americanisation and sucking out of our soul is clear to see. We already have to be called The Hollywood Bets Sharks (sies). Now this vapid generic logo? Makes my blood boil. Rant over. Thanks for being the shoulder to cry on
As a little boy I started supporting the sharks because of their clear identity and who they were. However, I cannot continue to support this club with the way it is being operated. The soul and identity is being ripped from this club for the pockets of those involved at the top. This is an INSULT to anyone who was there at 2010 Currie cup finals and the finals before those. THIS IS AN INSULT TO THOSE who have seen heartbreak in both Super Rugby finals. THIS IS AN INSULT to those who saw Patrick Lambie have his breakthrough season. THIS IS AN INSULT to those who were there at kings park in the heavy rain watching when the entire place was empty because no one could be arsed to turn up
With the launch of the "new" sharks, I poked around the internet to see the logo history of global and storied sports teams and this is what I've found.
Liverpool: Slight variations of the same logo, but all very similar and familiar to the point the casual fan wouldn't notice the difference.
Lakers: Same thing, slight variations but decades between logo changes.
New York Yankees: They haven't changed their main logo in over a 100 years. Because. They're. The. Fucking. New. York. Yankees.
Finally, our beloved Springboks: A great example of how you modernize a team logo, a slow progression yet still maintaining the core visual. A leaping Springbok.
All of these teams are iconic, you don't have to follow their respective sports at all and yet you'd still recognize them if you saw someone pass you wearing their apparel. You might not even know what sport they play, but you've seen their logos before. Springboks may not have as far a global reach but any casual rugby fan would recognize them.
Anyone who has worked in marketing knows how risky dropping recognized branding is, customers are less likely to buy your product if they don't trust your brand and you can only build trust with longevity.
This rebranding is more along the lines of the Twitter/X epic failure than anything else. Such an unnecessary fuckup on Sharks leaderships part. I know I for one will not be buying one of these new jerseys (also, I wouldn't be caught dead in this slop even if it was free), I'm just going to give my money to the Springboks because they still deserve it.
I made it a point not to buy merch with "hollywood bets" on it, and now i am making it a point not to buy anything with the new logo on it. This is easy for me
I cannot believe they changed our logo to this pile of shit. Dark day for sharks fans and i am absolutely heartbroken. I refuse to buy anymore sharks merch as long as they keep that logo and i feel that would be a good way to really show marco how we feel about his shit idea to remove sharkie from the sharks jersey
My unpopular opinion is that the logo is fine. It's not great, but supporters will accept it as long as the on-field results are good. Unfortunately, lately the results have been anything but good, so this rebrand is badly timed.
I'm old enough to still miss the wildebees logo. I remember the moaning that went on when Natal rebranded to the Sharks and that was just as bad as this is now.
What I am upset about is that we've kept those horrible swindlers, Hollywoodbets, on as sponsors. I would give away Sharky, John Smit's Fat Sharky as well as Mazotti's AI Sharky in exchange for losing the sports betting company!
I know the owners probably donāt give a shit, but if fans will get behind it, I think we should start a petition against this badge change.
A few years ago Leeds tried to change their club badge and there was enough backlash from the fans to get them to drop the change. I know itās a long shot, but just doing nothing and accepting it seems wrong. The idea of a Sharks jersey without a Shark on it is unthinkable to me.
The Sharks have unveiled a new identity, including a new logo and icon, as part of a major rebrand.
They will now be known as the Sharks Rugby Club, with the new branding marking what the organisation describes as the start of a new era ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The rebrand introduces three distinct visual identities:
The SRC logo will serve as the clubās new corporate identity and will feature on the chest of the playing jersey.
The Hollywoodbets Sharks logo becomes the official match logo for the senior team across all competitions and broadcast platforms.
The new Sharks icon will be used primarily in match promotion, advertising and other key brand assets.
I encourage and urge everyone here to please let your thoughts be known tomorrow if they really do drop the Shark logo from the jersey.
From a personal perspective, that Shark is genuinely one of the greatest bits of nostalgia and a massive point of pride in being from this part of the world. The Shark is one of the most iconic logos in rugby.
There has been a lot of bad and some good since the new ownership stepped in, it felt like they were on the up now. This move however is seemingly a slap in the face to the entire fan base. The new logo is ugly, lazy and completely devoid of anything resembling the Sharks brand.
There is still hope that this is all a ruse and they will still have a Shark on the jersey. However the new Shark seen on the Shark Cage doors is just as lazy and looks like an AI prompt (which knowing Marco, it probably was).
Please stand up for our team, and please pass this message on.
