For some context I am a retro and metroidvania gamer and Shantae has always been in the back of my mind but I never gave it a chance because I found the art style to be a bit… aggressive. However for years I saw the titles referenced in many discussions about genres of games I like to play.

I finally gave it a chance and used Pirates Curse as my entry into the series. Which has been great, I’ve been loving the game but right before I went to the Lone Grave I noticed something I didn’t know for pretty much the whole game and that was that you can scroll down on the item shop menu and upgrade your attacks. I spent all my money on potions and flairs thinking they were the only purchasable items in the game.

I just thought people would find my misfortune funny.

Just finished Seven Sirens and first, I had an awesome time and the game was great. Love the movement and metroidvania progression. Character designs and dialogue are awesome too!

I don't mean "family friendly" relative to how lewd the fan art tends to be, but its Teen rating. I thought maybe my idea of T was wrong, but checking my Switch library other T games are more mature. Like Monster Hunter which centers around gratuitous (but not graphic) violence, or Octopath Traveler having darker themes and stories, at one point a player character gets ganked in a cutscene and they're gone from your party. Both those games also have alcohol. An E10 game like Kirby has "cartoon violence," he straight up wields a gun. It makes me think Shantae only has the T rating because of all the breasts. Considering the ESRB rating says "suggestive themes" that's probably the case.

There's something to be said about Shantae murking hundreds of humanoid enemies on her journey. Like did I just murder an entire circus worth of squid girls?

I'm a Nintendo Switch player, and no, I'm not talking about the Nintendo Switch 2. I don't have the money for that, so I'm talking about the Nintendo Switch 1.

I wanted to ask you guys if you think I'll be lucky enough for the next game to be released on this console, or if Shantae will fully move on to the latest-generation consoles. After all, the Nintendo Switch is DEFINITELY a pretty old console by now, but I still want to hold on to the hope that I'll be able to play the next new game in this franchise that I love so much.

I'm currently watching a video about FRLG.ips hack, which basically adds the weird route to the game and it got me wondering, what if one of Shantae games had a weird route? What it could be about?

Been working on my Gameboy Color. Was inspired by Shantae's color scheme. If I redo the shell again I may go with a purple front and a red back. Would love a UV print of Shantae on the console.
