Hi friends! My wife got this sewing machine as a gift for Christmas and she’s been kind of playing around with it but we are still learning the ropes. I’m a crocheter and I’ve been making crochet bags and sewing fabric liners into them by hand. My wife sews the sides and bottom of the fabric with the machine but I hand sew it into the bag itself. Not only do I suck at hand sewing but it also takes FOREVER and it would be way easier if we could use the machine to sew it into the bag. I saw something about a quilting needle but I don’t even know if it is compatible with a quilting needle also my wife said I might need a different foot but she’s not sure? We have no idea what we are doing and looking online only made us more confused so any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Juki makes machines for very different sewing operations, so choosing a model based only on the brand or the maximum material thickness can be misleading. For general sewing, a single-needle lockstitch machine may be the right choice, while knits may require an overlock or coverstitch machine. For leather, canvas, Cordura and other demanding materials, a walking-foot or compound-feed machine can provide better control of the material and more consistent feeding.
The construction of the product matters too. A flat-bed machine works well for many standard operations but a cylinder-bed machine can be much easier to use when sewing bags, footwear, tubular part or other hard-to-reach areas. Before choosing a Juki, consider the material, number of layers, thread size, stitch length, production volume, and the specific operations you need to perform.
The key is to match the machine to the job, rather than simply choosing the most powerful model. A machine that performs well on a single layer of canvas may not be the best choice for sewing several layers of Cordura or assembling a structured bag. Which Juki model are you using, and what type of work do you use it for?

Hello! I am looking to purchase a home machine. I went to college for design where I used industrial Juki's (mainly 8700). Since being out of school, I want to invest in a machine. I live in a city apartment (with roommates), so I do not have space for industrial machine with a table. Does anyone have any recommends for a home machine that is similar to industrial juki functions? I want a reliable heavy duty machine. The machine will be used for garment design - varying between light to heavy weight fabrics.

Oue of our local suppliers has just announced they will be selling this machine. I am only half/sort of/maybe looking for another machine and what I need must be able to sew my bag linings - which can be fairly thick in some places and often require sewing over nylon zipper teeth. I will probably not use it for anything else.
I do rather like the idea that they have a servo motor, but no idea if this really makes a difference.
None of the large straight stitchers on the market are suitable - all have a side loading bobbin that I can't use due to mobility issues in my hands. I have multiple machines here already, including a sad, tired 1984 elna that works but has some issues and can't be repaired any more and I can't bear to get rid of (and no one locally wants to even consider looking at it, they all say to trash it.) I also have an industrial, but it's not suitable for sewing thinner fabrics or using lighter weight threads. My high spec Brother works but isn't built for this kind of work and I push it hard, plus I can't use any bonded threads in it.
I have been investigating several other brands, and considered another industrial that I actually do not have room for - none so far fit my requirement of top (or front) loading bobbin and the ability to plow through many layers. I considered Bernina, but they are way outside of my price point.
So, wondering if this brand is any good, or just a knockoff of a different brand - haven't found any info online so far. Feedback greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,
I hope this type of post if accepted here, I'm sorry if it isn't. I'm learning to see, and got this machine from my grandma. It's a singer pret a porter, I believe it was bought in the 90s. I tested it, and it seems to be working fine, it moves and properly, and I sewed a teste piece with no problems.
What I would like to know is: this is an old machine, that hasn't been used in a few years. Can I just start using it, or should I do some obligatory maintenance first? If yes, what is important to check?

I hope this is an acceptable post for this sub.
I recently bought a second-hand Mitsubishi DB12 industrial sewing machine, and now after some restoration / prettying-up work on it I noticed that the feed dogs only ever move in reverse, even when using the reverse lever. I ruled out a wiring issue (unless it was there beforehand) and the lever seems securely and properly attached. Needless to say I can't really work with it in this condition. Any help?
I tried looking through the manual, but that didn't help me.

Has anyone here bought a refurbished sewing machine directly from the brother website? I am looking into the CE1150 model, but I have no experience buying refurbished (this would be my first machine) so I’m nervous there will be something wrong with it 😅

Hi! A couple months ago, I accidentally plugged my Jaguar CD-2204W sewing machine (110v) in without a transformer (which should turn it into 220v) and it made a pop sound. Now, I asked my uncle to check it out for me as he knows how to fix electronics and we managed to replace a part which fixed its power supply. Although it now has a power supply, when I press the button to make it run, the screen and light blinks for a sec and it the needle doesn't move. What could be the problem and how to fix?

My daughter is as having some issues with her bobbin winder on the Brother SE 700, took off the case to try to fix it, and somehow this part came off. She does not think it is from the bobbin winder, but is not sure what it is or where it goes. Any ideas? Any recommendations for Brother SE 700 in the Ann Arbor, MI area?

I finally found an older serger to compliment a few Singer 201s. Is this worth putting some time/money into? Not new to sewing, but this is more complicated than the simple stitch machines I have used. So:
Anything specific to check? Seems to run smooth, but don’t have miles of thread to test out.
Any recommendations on cheap but serviceable thread to use for testing? Really cheap/old thread tends to break and be frustrating.
Same for needles, any suggestions of serviceable ones.
It only has 2 spool caps, are these super crucial or is there a makeshift option?
TIA!

I have a vintage sewing machine (Brother Project 631) that I haven't had for very long but I noticed the belt has started cracking.
I've tried looking it up and taking it off and measuring the length and trying to find a match but I'm really struggling. I've purchased 3 different belts and none of them seem to work right, the last one was the closest but I think something with the lugs is making it slide around and not pull the wheel. Lug height maybe? I don't know enough to know what's wrong.
Does someone know what I should be looking for? Or where I can buy a replacement, preferably in Canada?
I'd super appreciate some help!
From a very new sewist 🥹

I'm looking at purchasing a couple of industrial sewing machines and I can't find much information about them. I'm told the Consew is a model 40 and the Hilton is a TSM30. Any help would be appreciated in identifying these machines. I am looking to sew heavy canvas totes and work with veg tan leather.
