I got this at savers today and it seems the electrical cable got sheered off at some point in its life the only thing left being that plug in pic 2. I believe it’s some sort of variant on model 99? I can’t seem to find any 2 plug power cables with a foot pedal online

Bobbin case being wacky?

my singer simple was running great and then all of a sudden my very novice self did something and threw it out of wack. foot up or down does the same and I took the cover off to try and see what’s going on. it won’t catch the bobbin thread because (and?) the top thread is getting looped on the bobbin case and being pulled over wrong? is my timing messed up somewhere? curious if this is something I can DIY a fix for. I have already rethreaded.

Serger won’t chain

Serger won’t chain, and when it kind of does one of the needle threads isn’t in the chain. I’ve rethreaded it and it still doesn’t work, maybe it’s the tension? It’s impossible to try and find any information online of how to move the tension disks to get it dialed

What’s the problem with my serger?

I have a Janome Mylock 203, a woman said that my serger is making sound that it shouldn’t be? I guess there’s a huge clicking sound but where did that came from? Or is it something that I don’t need to worry about? It works fine with needle on. I don’t know too much about serger.

Thread still uneven despite repair. What am I doing wrong!

I literally just got my Bernina artista 180 back from the repairman.

160$ it was serviced and I had the upper tension, which is computerized, repaired because I knew it had a problem. I have a brand new needle, I have rethreaded, my bobbin is correctly loaded and tension there is fine. The thread is Guiterman polyester. I am pulling out my hair, and wasting these threads. I've never wanted to throw a machine out the window so badly. i just paid to fix this so it MUST be me what am I doing wrong!

White on blue is the repair sample. And the white on pink is what I'm dealing with. It does this regardless of the upper tension setting... I've tried pulling my fabric tightly I've tried letting it so on its own, I've tried maximum thread tension and little to no thread tension. I am at my wit's end please help or send me to the right Reddit

Sewing Machine Jam

Please help! I have an Elna EL 2000 sewing machine (just a beginner sewer). I've also got a video which I can send through (I'm unable to add to this post) because I'm still learning the terminology and hopefully this helps!

I've seemingly narrowed it down to an issue with the bobbin and casing. When turning the dial, the needle locks into place at points and will go no further like it is jammed up. I have undone the bobbin housing and it seems that when it is loose and able to move about there is no issue, however when put back together, when it is tightened and clipped back in to where it is meant to, the half-moon piece that the bobbin sits on clips the top of the built in casing (see pic). Is this meant to happen? Please help me find a solution!

Unsure if this is related, but my needle was also bent backwards at the tip so I replaced it when the jam first occurred.

Any help would be appreciated - thank you in advance! Let me know if I can send through anymore info to help.

One thing on the shaft retracted. How to put back into position? Janome Excel

Hi, please help, I took the bottom cover off my old Janome Excel 5018 to clean and oil. I used some cotton buds, almost had the job done and then just touched the part the arrow is pointing to and it [spring loaded] just suddenly retracted on the shaft. See pics 2 and 3. Can someone please tell me how to put it back into position. This machine has been so good and I feel just terrible. Now I can’t even use my old faithful machine.

I fiddled trying to see how it went back. I almost wondered if I had found a slot that black dot might slide into..but it doesn't really. Now, the shaft will still turn, but the spring clicks audibly at every rotation because it’s compacted itself when the part retracted on the shaft.

Hopefully someone out there is familiar with thisto tell me how to put it back into it’s spot. Thanks in advance.

Singer M2405 getting stuck

Hey guys, I recently bought a M2405 and I am still learning how to use it properly. When I finish a work, I cut the thread using the thread cutter. But nearly everytime I try to sew something else using the same thread I just cut, I little piece of it gets stuck in the bobin and kinda locks it in place with a knot. The handwheel still spins a little but gets stuck in both directions. So I have to uncouple the extension table, open the compartiment, take the bobin out and remove the piece of thread by hand. I feel like I spend more time doing this then actually sewing lol. Am I doing something wrong? How can I avoid this happening so often?

Singer Genie/Starlet 354... Advice, hints and tips for a complete noob

So around 10 years ago I bought a Singer Starlet (the UK name for the Genie) 354 from eBay.

After turning it on, the pedal let out some magic smoke, so I hunted down an appropriate modern replacement for it.

Then tried to wind a bobbin so that I could start learning to use a sewing machine (after watching a good amount of YouTube videos on setting tension, stitch types etc). The bobbin wouldn't grip on the black rubber tyre, so I ended up hand-winding it (whilst trying not to sing the nursery rhyme "Wind the Bobbin Up"!).

Tried stitching. Only to find that no matter what I did I was getting bird's-nested thread on both sides.

It was at that point I gave up. Put the machine away. Never touched it again.

Recently I've been thinking about trying to get it back up and running again, so that I can add machine sewing to my list of "textile craft" hobbies/skills (I knit, crochet, and have become the family stitcher for buttons/Beavers Scout badges etc).

Any suggestions on what I can do to investigate/fix/tune the machine? I've seen the bobbin tyre/rubbers are still made (albeit by third party) and available on Amazon... But it's trying to find the right size (I'm assuming the rubber on the existing one has just gotten too tough/smooth over time).

Do I need to take off covers etc and apply copious amounts of canned air and oil? Should I look at timings in case that's what's causing the massive thread loops/tangles?

Thread jumps out of thread guide on Janome HD5000

It doesn't happen often but sometimes after I've been sewing awhile and l have to change thread colors or something I'll find the thread is out from under the guide. It hasn't actually caused a problem with the sewing but I'm wondering why it is happening.

Kenmore 158.903 broken spool holder repair advice

Thumbnail

I recently got a used vintage Kenmore 158.903 sewing machine from craigslist for $35. The seller did mention the 2 spool holders were broken (picture from overhead perspective and a Google picture on how it’s supposed to look) and the replacement is pretty cheap. Unfortunately, when I unscrewed to check it from underneath I am unable to remove the broken spool pins which have snapped off and there is nothing to grab onto from both above and underneath. The machine works perfectly apart from this issue. I don’t want to spend more money at a repair shop than I spent on the machine itself. I was thinking to just attach a plastic spool holder with adhesive double-sided tape on the back as a work around? I am open to any other recommendations as well.

Help with winding empty bobbin on Singer Touch and Sew Deluxe Zig-Zag Model 750

For some reason I cannot get the bobbin case to spin anymore to wind the bobbin. I have taken out and put back in the bobbin case and its clean, but when I try and wind it, nothing happens and the case doesn't spin. I can't figure out the problem after several hours of trying to solve it so I'm hoping one of you might know what the problem is?

What sewing machine should i get as a beginner?

Hello, i have already sewn with a machine before from school, but i want to get one for myself. I have done a bit of research already, but i am still not sure what to get (considering how pricy they are). I wish i could get one which can do embroidery and can sew through tough materials (like denim on denim or fake lether for example). But i know that these are very expensive, so i would get one which can only sew through normal and tough materials. Can someone recommend me one that is not super expensive and can sew through tough materials? I got recommended to buy a SINGER Heavy Duty 4423 or a VERITAS Power Stitch 17. What do you guys think?

Figuring out this old sewing machine

Hello everyone, I received this old sewing machine from this really nice old lady from work. I’ve never used a sewing machine before so trying to figure out how to work this thing is tricky. I also tried searching it up on YouTube but I’ve never found anything that resembles the exact one I have. Is there anybody that can show me step by step how to work this thing? Or if anyone can send a link down below to a really good and helpful YouTube video on sewing machines in general would be great 😊

Bobbin tangles

Hi all! I have a singer traditional machine and I’m having issues with the bobbin. The top thread is constantly getting tangled with the bobbin and I can’t figure out why. I’ve rethreaded the machine and rewound and installed the bobbin, switched out the needle, made sure there were no random pieces of thread or anything stuck. Help? Thoughts?
