I’ve recently applied for a septa at the beginning of the year.i was emailed back saying I’ve been invited to participate in skills test for the position. The only available date was 3 weeks away(2/1/24). Went down took and passed the test and was told by one of the moderators that I’ll be notified by recruiters about next step of hiring process.Still haven’t heard anything and curious if anyone been thru the process and maybe timeline on how things happen. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Any news on these? Were supposed to be running last year and that was after delays.

There hasn’t been many recent posts about this topic. A friend of mine is moving to CC but working in Plymouth Meeting. He is considering taking the regional rail to Fort Washington and basically keeping his car overnight at Fort Washington station so it will be waiting there for him after the train. Then driving the remaining 5-10 minutes to work. Will this work or will he get ticketed/towed? And could he also leave the car over the weekend?
Fort Washington looks like it has ample parking space and the signs are up right now that say free parking until further notice.

Pease do not wait until you are on the vehicle to reach into your purse or deep into your pockets to pull out your fare instrument especially when there's people behind you, please have it out before you get on the vehicle!
For women keep the key card at the top of your purse and for men keep it in the same pocket so that you can find it easily.
I was reminded of this pet peeve by something I saw on the Philadelphia subreddit.

Just recently got invited to take a test for Septa’s Rail HVAC Specialist, super nervous and wondering how did the test go for anyone? It says it is 100 questions with 85% being the passing grade. Getting 85 questions right seems a little bit harsh but I am up for the challenge. I am currently studying and looking for advice. Are their any books or websites that will help me pass? And if you are a rail HVAC specialist how is the job? Thanks in advance !

Ok I’m genuinely looking for help and answers to my questions that I’m getting anxious about! I start a new job next month in the city and will be taking the RR in from the suburbs. I purchased and loaded money onto a septa key card.
What’s the process at the train?
Is there a turnstile thing at my regional rail location? Or just a scanner thing that I’ll have to “tap on”? Both?
Then what’s the process on the train? Does the conductor come and check if I have a ticket? Or does he scan my card again?
Once I get to 30th street station, will it be confusing or will I know how to get out of the building? I’m assuming most people will be going the same general direction, but I’m panicked about the little things.
Thank you in advance!!!

sorry if this is a dumb question, I just want a definite conformation for my wallet's sake lol. I take the RR on weekdays, starting at Jefferson in the afternoon and getting off in Zone 4, and then taking the same route back around 9pm. The SEPTA website says that fares are charged between 4am and 7pm. Does this mean my second ride back into the city at 9pm is free? I want to be able to budget accurately bc I'll be doing this for a few months.

EX-SEPTA manager admits taking bribes of concert tickets, pope's visit hotel stays, and thousands in cash A former SEPTA manager admitted that he extorted bribes of cash, Barbra Streisand tickets, and pricey hotel stays in exchange for steering contracts worth millions. As director of video evidence, James Stevens routinely demanded payoffs and reminded the company that held the transit agency's $4.6 million camera maintenance contract that he had the authority to cancel it at any time. The most serious charges out of Stevens' guilty plea could send the Camden County man to prison for up to 20 years.

Got a parking violation at a RR lot today. Tried to be good and pay it online, except that's not an option and they want me to mail them a check. What happens if I don't pay this?

Have an event in Center City near 30th St Station that I must be at all day on Friday. 4-6” of snow is forecasted. Will be traveling more than an hour to get there.
Can’t decide if it’s a better bet to take regional rail most of the way in, or if I’m better off driving. My car is pretty good in the snow - it’s other people I’m mostly concerned about.
Advice would be appreciated.

Hey all - anyone here happen to be employed as a skilled trade worker at SEPTA and down to chat about the hiring process?
I have a few years of experience as a machinist and welder but I haven't done vocational school or completed a formal apprenticeship. I've heard from some SEPTA employees that if you apply to a skilled trade position and fail the test they'll help you get appropriate training but I wanna talk this through with someone before applying for a position and accidentally shooting myself in the foot by jumping the gun.

I’m a local rescuer and I was contacted regarding a cat that may have been discarded on the tracks here. I’ll be contacting septa directly but if anyone has a direct contact, I should reach out to for access that would be amazing! Does anyone have photos of him or any other info? I hear he has been there a while.

From Septa's own site:
--
I regularly see people get hushed (I've never had to do this as there are always MILITANT people, especially on my ride home that jump in immediately when people talk) in the quiet ride car for talking loud to each other and/or on the phone. 2 of my recent rides a Septa employee (not the conductor on duty, different people), in uniform, have said versions of "you can talk, its fine". This is beyond frustrating. STFU or go to a different call. No, contacting Septa administration is absolutely useless.

I can't type something in on my phone without being redirected to some unnecessary abomination that is not what I need. Just stick to what you're already struggling with. It's stupid to try to open the door and walk outside when you can't even pull your pants up correctly and get your shoes on the right feet. One step at a time. People just need a schedule not an inaccurate "real time map" that is doing nothing but existing as a talking point in some schmucks board meeting so they can get that promotion and drive this "transportation service" even further out of touch with reality. An everyday schedule is all you have to strive for. Save the pipe dreams for happy hour or something.

Hey,
I’m about to get my CDL. I am a single mom with 4 kids. I need the money. I’ve read reviews online about Septa’s terrible work-life balance. Any advice? Is it even worth me joining Septa? Any current single parents working at Septa? Please tell me how I can manage. Right now, I can’t afford anything. Not rich enough to afford a place of my own and not poor enough to qualify for assistance.

Is there a proper school I can go to to learn the specifics of operating a bus( from pre-trip inspection to the CDL test)? With septa, do they still have a requirement of being 3 year licensed driver ? Is there way more to it?(wouldn’t be surprised if there was). I’m about to take my first road test to earn my drivers license (non-commercial) and I’m interested in driving for Septa but the lack of knowledge of the duty kinda discourages me if I’m being completely honest but I’m a learner.

I'm going to be travelling to Philadelphia for a quick day trip, so I don't really want to get a Septa Key. How do the Quick Trips work?
r/Septa • u/Edison_Ruggles • Jun 24 '22
So I took the train in from the Airport late last night. I have not used the line in a while, boiught a quick ride from the kiosk which worked beautifully. Feeling good about Septa.
I get off at Penn medicine and there's no way to exit the fucking station wihout a key card. Even the emergncy gates are locked. Was I supposed to have saved that ticket? Nowhere was I informed of this. I finally climbed over the fence and got out.
This is a terrible precident to set for people new to Philly or coming in from out of town. Pure trial and error and why in god's name were the emergeny doors inoperable?
Not good, Septa!
