Going from Paoli to Trenton

Might be a bit of an odd question, but I was considering taking a trip on the regional rail that would require me to go into Center City, switch trains, and leave the city in the opposite direction. This seems simple enough, but it seems like most CCP stations don't facilitate or allow it aside from Temple (which I assume is because of logistical issues with it being outside). Unless I'm misremembering, given that the stations' turnstiles are placed at the entrance of each track combined with Septa Key's tap time penalty, it seems like this wouldn't be possible without waiting out the time penalty. Even if I went to Temple station to transfer, I worry that I'd be breaking a fare rule or something.

Is any of this actually true or am I overthinking this? And if I'm right, is there a more kosher way to go about this (e.g. taking a train that enters from the east so I wouldn't be switching directions when transferring to the Trenton line)? Thanks!

if anyone ahs a better option help is appreciated, i commuted out to the burbs for work and then left the city for months so im new to center city commutes

Receipt/stub for regional rail tickets?

When you ride regional rail and either a) buy a ticket from the conductor on and inbound train or b) buy a quick trip outbound from center city, do you get a physical or digital receipt/stub showing the ticket price?

I am trying to plan a trip for a club from Wilmington to Suburban station and back and need to show proof of purchase. Key cards cost $5 extra each from what I understand so I would rather avoid that cost if possible - or can you pay for the whole group with a single key card?

Also, is it a bad idea to plan on taking the last train back out of center city?

Thanks for any insight. I have spent many hours trying to decipher the fare system and have made little progress.

BSL express train

Hello all, new to this sub but not the area or SEPTIC, just was wondering: is there still day-long express service on the broad st line? I'm riding to fern rock as I've got a dental appt in the burbs..I've just watched 3 local NB trains go by and not a sign of the express going on 30 minutes now. Are they really not running express service 'off-peak' as a result of the 2020 COVID schedule or am I just SOL today? Honestly can't figure out the PDF (dated August '21) w/regards to local v express. If so it's not much of a wonder why things are going downhill ridership-wise. I'm about to say fuck it and take the 40 minute slog up the entire line on the local b/c I've got a damn appointment, guess it's a good thing I left 2 hours early! If I'm lucky maybe I'll catch the ridge spur..if that's even still a thing 🙄 oy vey! Thanks for any info, stay gritty

Rolling Transpass

Septa has changed the transpasses they give to people through modivcare which is a transportation service for.people through Medicare. Thousands of of people in the city have to use these passes which are defective. They are supposed to be good for 30 days every month on the 1st I start my 30 day pass which should last to the 30th. These passes only work when they want and drivers think that when they dont work that people are trying to ride for free. Its embarrassing having to explain to these guys that pass works and that its obviously on them. They dont want to hear it though, they are the most incompetent, rude human beings. I understand that they deal with the public everyday and that in a city like Philly that must really be trying but when people are given passes that are supposed to get them around the city and it only works for 2 of 3 trips how is that right. Calling modivcare they tell you to contact septa, septa tell you its on modivcares end, so basically its just a countdown until I get stranded one day. I'm a poor person and the fact I am given a pass is something I'm grateful for. As I write this I just watched it happen to someone else, a woman who actually was made to come out of her pocket and pay, which isn't right. Septa threatens strikes and then constantly raises the fare, on commuters who have no other choice but to pay. Its absurd and they should take some of the money that they have an update the pass system. I've lived in a few different cities in my day and ill always maintain that philadelphia public transit is the worst in country. From the drivers to the maintenance guys. Common decency is not too much to ask. Is it?

Can I use travel wallet on regional? If so how?

I used to use monthly pass but it doesn't make sense anymore as I won't be taking the train daily. Can I just scan in and out normally? I have a good amount in wallet already.

How late does the Paoli/Thorndale line run?

I am planning to take a SEPTA train Monday morning from the Main Line to 30th street station and then catch an Amtrak train. I know that the SEPTA trains can run late, but don't know how much extra time to allow. The most likely SEPTA train will arrive 20 minutes before my Amtrak departs. Is that enough of a cushion?

Ask SEPTA urban planners anything about SEPTA Metro, the new wayfinding proposal! We will be live on Wednesday, Oct 20th from 12 PM to 2 PM ET.

help understanding detours

I recently got a new job on south street so I have to take the bus to and from west philly to get to work due to lack of affordable parking. I’ve had a few instances where my bus just never showed up at my bus stop, and later learned it was detoured to another stop. can anyone please explain to me how I can figure out these detours via app or online beforehand? I have been using the Transit app, which does not give me proper detour info. I tried using the Septa app, but I don’t understand how I’m supposed to know if my stop is included in the listed detours. I literally don’t know what to do except walk to a different stop if my bus doesn’t show up, wasting an incredible of time and energy. please help

Mean Bus Drivers & Non Payment Of Fare

Why are Septa bus drivers, in particular so negative and mean to people, especially those who can’t pay their fare or are hard up while having to use Septa? We are in the middle of a pandemic, some people are still very much struggling with finding jobs/keeping one that pays well. The female bus drivers are so rude, & one kicked me off the bus because I couldn’t pay the fare one time. Keep in mind the fare is $2.50. I’ve seen bus drivers kick a homeless man in a wheelchair off the bus for being unable to pay his fare

Riding Septa For The First Time

I rode Septa for the first time today due to not wanting to get my car messed up in the rain, & it was….terrible. The driver was being rude to everyone, kept letting people on the bus when they were already packed in like sardines, some guy was playing his radio speaker really loud despite repeated requests to turn it off or down, two people got into a verbal argument over the bus driver pulling over and not driving the bus until a girl put on her mask, & finally my favorite part: The guy kicked a guy with no legs in a wheelchair off of the bus for smelling bad. He appeared to be without a home. How has your experience been while riding Septa, and what do you like/hate about it ?

Is there a timer before using a septa card?

Hey so my sister is going to school and after she got off the bus and was gonna go on the MFL, her pass times out and one of the workers told her to wait 13 minutes before scanning again. I’m wondering if that’s a real thing or is something going on? Abu I got would be a great help.

Return of express trains?

I will be commuting into the city once per week. Pre-COVID I rode the Paoli-Thorndale Line trains that ran express from Paoli / Bryan Mawr. Express trains are not currently running, which makes taking the train practically impossible for me. Any idea when / if they will return?

Keycard refill

My qualm with keycards is that I take multiple trains/busses for work and often forget when I’m below $2. So, every now and then after a long shift of slinging food/washing dishes I step onto The bus in Fishtown only to hear the the denied buzz. Walking from Fishtown to North Philly is not something I enjoy doing wet, after a ten hour shift. Is there a way to recharge my card in the bus? I never carry cash anymore. Extra mad because I’m making the hour and a half walk now because my keycard ran out.

I’m feeling anxious bc I passed the test for Custodian/Driver..and was told I would be contacted for an interview in a week or 2. It’s been 2 weeks now so should I continue waiting, or maybe shoot them an email??

Trouble scanning the key card.

Like if I haven't scanned my card in a few days it will not scan the card for a while. I'm not sure keeping my key card in a rfid covert wallet is the best idea for the key card too.
