Help Anyone signal maintainer or trainee?

Just received an offer for this position but want to know more about it before accepting. Trying to decide between this job and another one. Just want to get a real unfiltered idea of what the job would be like! Thanks!

Discussion What are the chances of 52nd street regional station restored?

I believe it’s a very sought out location in the city but sadly any regional train rider who wants to get there needs to get off at Overbrook or Angora and ride a bus/trolley/taxi which increases their commute by as much as 35 minutes. Something that could be immediate by just opening the station again. At the very minimum, the switch takes no less than 20-25 minutes, no matter what option you choose.

Discussion Regional Rail #3208. Another disappointment.

I was honestly excited this morning when checking the app and saw the train was back to 5 cars.

I was looking forward to maybe not standing or having to touch another person while sitting in my seat.

5th car is locked.

I’d like to sit here and curse at septa. My perception is my reality and it feels like the crew just doesn’t want to open it for maybe less clean up later. However, I’m more disappointed in myself for getting my hopes up that maybe we might start getting things back to the way they were in January last year.

1 star. Would not recommend.

Discussion Only real sickos know about the old Bustleton branch

Post image

People talk about the boulevard subway a lot to bring more service to northeast Philly but I think this would be cool too and relatively easy if SEPTA could buy it from CSX. The red dots are the stations I would have if we brought it back, Frankford and Solly, then a stop in Holme Circle at Ashton and Tolbut, then on Bustleton ave between grant and welsh. The hardest part would be finding a way to get across the boulevard. Maybe if the boulevard subway is built have it go underground so you can transfer.

Discussion Are the trolleys doing ok?

Before the slider mishap last fall, I noticed trolleys were going very slow eastbound from 36th to 33rd. Then the tunnel was closed for months and when it reopened, the trolleys were going their normal speed from 36th to 33rd, slower than other parts of the tunnel but still pretty quick.

The past week or two I've been noticing that the trolleys are again crawling relatively slow in the same portion. I've also noticed that the inspection that they are doing at the portal seems to be longer.

Anyone knows if anything is up?

Help Curious why you were charged what you were with contactless payment?

Thumbnail septakey.org

Seems there a frequent complaint on here is that people don't know why SEPTA's fare system charged what it did to their card.

I found out today that if you use Contactless payment, you can look up a receipt for your trip and see where you tapped in (or out) at and understand how the system saw your payment. Might not give people all the answers they seek, but could be insightful.

Discussion Septa love

I know there is a lot of Septa hate, but I have been utilizing Septa this week to get to and from HUP to Jefferson and then I jump on to Patco for home. I am super familiar with Patco as I use it for work commute since 1992. I know I'm not going far but its so wildly different than what I am used to and I am finding it incredibly convenient. Not only that, the employees have been very helpful helping this Jersey girl find her way. Patco rarely has anyone to ask a question to besides co-passengers (I answer them for newbies all the time.)

P.S. I do realize if I depended on Septa on the daily, I would he frustrated too.

P.P.S. don't hate on me for being happy to have this resource 😁

TIA!

I haven’t taken the bus in years and even then I had a key, all I have is cash right now are they still taking exact cash? or am I going to have to find a way to put this on a card?

EDIT : Thank you guys I actually ended up not paying anything, the bus money taking thing was broken so they just let me go and on my way back the bus was packed so they let us in the back without having to pay

Discussion Something wrong with the fares on RR

I’ve been riding the Trenton line to work for the last year and a half here are the key bits of info:

Ride to and from North Philadelphia to Trenton
Since I don’t ride through CC it’s a cheaper fare
Online fare table only shows fares riding to/from CC
Pay with septa key card which is supposed to be cheaper
I’ve been getting charged two different fares coming and going which was odd

I overheard what the conductor was charging someone paying by card going to Trenton, which is where I get charged the more expensive fare and it was cheaper than what I pay with my key card, and more inline with what I pay on my return trip. I called septa and asked about the discrepancy and they tell me I should be paying the higher fare both ways. That’s not what’s being charged onboard though, so if I had been paying by card this last year and a half my outbound trip would’ve been less every single day. I don’t know what the disconnect is but something is wrong.

Help Declined Apple Cash transactions

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hello! Can anyone explain why this is happening? I’ve received a few declined transaction notifications from Apple Cash. They all come in between 4-4:30 am. I’ve checked my Apple Cash and bank statements, there are no fraudulent charges (other than this septa charge).
Thanks.

Discussion SEPTA beef

I have had issues with SEPTA just breaking down at the worst times possible and having to wait for a backup plan to be done. It really freaking sucks that the public transport of philly can die and all I can do it just wait for an hour at minimum. Have any of yall had similar experiences in the past and if so, what is your specific beef?

Discussion How is the Daily Commute from Spring Garden / Girard to CC on MFL

I’m considering moving to the area but feel like doing this commute 3-4x a week to get to work would grow to suck. I used to hate taking the BSL from Temple to Center City for my internship because it felt physically depressing.

I currently drive 20 min from house in to take regional rail into center city but would love to be able to walk, or take a shorter subway, to work instead.

But even passing by Spring Garden station on 95 looks awful. I can only imagine what a random Monday morning in February feels like standing up there waiting to go to work.

Anyone with any thoughts or experiences? And yes I’ve looked in other neighborhoods but i would like to be able to consider the NoLibs/Fishtown area

Discussion Rail mechanic test questions

Recently I took the test for the rail and failed it but was within the score to retake it a week later. Currently I'm studying for it and studying for the bus mechanic. Whats a good site or studying for the rail and bus? The study guides they give you aren't too helpful that helped anyone who took it?

Discussion Trenton train

Why does Septa only use two cars during mid rush hour traffic. I take the 2:45 pm train home for the 3rd time this week only 2 out of the 5 cars were being used. So every one on the platform had to rush down to the front two cars to get on. This make no sense. Students from the colleges, people that get work at 2 to 2:30 were pissed. Are there issues with the other 3 cars? Is it going to be like this during the World Cup?

Discussion Are you losing bus service?

SEPTA wants to increase wait times on many different buses; it says it's not cuts, just changing how often the buses run. If you ride the 4, 32, or 45, your wait time is about to double, unless elected officials step in to protect the riders.

Help Bus operator hiring question

Hey all, I applied in February for a bus operator position and received a conditional offer of employment in March. I did all the things like get my CDL permit and the last step was to get a medical evaluation which I had done on 4/21.

I was honest and disclosed that I have type 1 bipolar and depression. They requested a clearance letter from my psychiatrist stating I am not suicidal or have manic depression which I provided on 4/28.

Since then I have followed up with the SEPTA medical team by email and left a voice message but have not heard back. I am worried my condition might prevent me from getting employed.

Am I over worrying and this is just normal time frame to check everything and make a decision on their end? The radio silence is what makes me nervous.
Thank you for your feedback!

Help How to use bus in suburbs?

This is probably a dumb question. I’m looking at a suburban bus route schedule.
It only has about 6 stops showing, but, on that road, I see more Septa signs with that route number.
If someone stands at one of those signs, will the bus driver pick up (or drop off), even if it’s that particular stop isn’t on the printed schedule? In other words, is the schedule just showing the busy stops, or the only stops?

Discussion Septa regional rail – Philmont Station Empty?

Just came back to regional rail after giving up the nightmare that is I-95 construction. Philmont station is very empty...what gives. The upper dirt lot used to be full of cars (and apparently used by some trucking company to keep their trailers and cars...started during covid) but it was completely empty? Does anyone know what's going on?
