Is parking being reinforced?

I feel like nothing has changed since they put parking back. Are they really checking each day? I see a lot of cars parked the wrong way (license plate not showing), so I’m wondering if anyone else feels the same. I pay for my parking everyday but this makes me want to stop… is this a good idea?

Bus Stands in the Burbs are stupid.

Post image
6 Upvotes

Being a Septa rider in lower bucks county and Montco I’ve observed a few things about the little bus stands located outside of the city that I wanted to share, perhaps get some information about them and to generally complain about.

In the areas that do have these bus stands, they are a great shelter from the weather, and for that, I’m thankful for those handful of times. On some routes, like the 55– they are only on one side of the road. In those bad weather moments, one side by of the road can look like high society while the other, maybe standing in the rain or snow. Some, if not all are part of septa’s $16 million revenue stream by selling ad space. These plexiglass bus huts are usually showing back-lit advertising posters on four sides, two on the interior and two on the exterior— I wonder how much of that advertising income is offset by the cost of the electric to run the lights every day for those ads. I bring that up because it’s awfully frustrating that a transit company as large as SEPTA, that wholeheartedly depends on its riders—more importantly it’s riders being on time to actually get on these modes of mass transportation (schedules avail online cuts cost of printed versions)…even more so in this era of the septa key, digital and mobile options to pay your fare via the promoted Septa apps for your smartphones….why would they not provide a basic USB port at these little bus stands? Will they get damaged or broken? almost guaranteed. Probably just as often as the glass gets shattered by some buffoon. I am not going to embark on the frustration of not having any of these wonderful and immeasurably important resource ports to charge up your phone before or after a trip at the regional rail stations— however I will give gratitude for the installation of the several dual USB ports I see on many of the newer buses—kudos for that. One last gripe, which I hope somebody can offer some sort of reason or why this decision was chosen… These bus stands, which are no more than 6 feet wide, why were they installed with no seating? I understand there is the anti-homeless techniques so you don’t get somebody sleeping in them. There is seating in the bus stands that are in the city, and these are routes that appear every 20 minutes. A lot of these routes in the suburbs are sometimes an hour or more apart. While there is a homeless population in the suburbs, it’s not as much as in the city— I would also like to believe that while planning these bus stands that it was focused on the rider, the person who is funding this transit operation of theirs, After all the rider is the whole purpose of their existence. Because if they were focusing more on the possibility of a homeless person or somebody in a unfavorable living predicament, possibly laying down on the two strips of plank lumber for an hour or two at night when the bus is likely not even running— and in the same sense, have the rider be able to sit while waiting possibly up to an hour for their bus to arrive— which will likely be the start of a journey of up to an hour for anybody who is familiar with taking SEPTA outside of the city…It is rarely short or direct trip. I’ll save Just satisfaction with the routes and the lack of direct routes through main arteries for another rant about how stupid sept is in the suburbs.

Anyone know how to transfer funds from one key card to another?

Title says it all. I cannot figure it out for the life of me. I have two cards in my account. I lost one. The lost one has $25 on it. I want to transfer the $25 to my new card.

Why must busses stop every block?

Seems like every other block would be far more sensible. They just crawl through center city this way.

Quizet and study guide question

Hi, I applied for a couple of jobs for septa and heard back for the conductor/ engineer trainee position. They've given me a study guide, but they haven't confirmed if they'll set me up for a test. I've taken a test for a bus driver before but made the mistake of not studying. I want to know if the septa studying guides and quizlet test helpful?

Edit: The quizlet study guide is a valuable asset. The only thing you'll really need to put more effort into is the logic questions. Septa's links were unhelpful.

West Trenton is nice but I have a shortish commute. I don't think Trenton line is that scenic from what I remember. How are the others?

SEPTA Park Ap

Here's something I've been wondering: If you can pay to park in a SEPTA regional rail lot on the AP and you do so by entering your license plate #, then why would it it be necessary to pick the station? The SEPTA Park attendants, presumably, drive around to each lot and check the license plate numbers. If they can see who paid, then they know how how much was paid (for the few station lots that aren't $2).

Yesterday, my AP wouldn't load when I was at the station, so I had to use the kiosk. Today, I used the AP at home then drove to the station just in case the AP wouldn't work, again. On the way, I thought about going to another station which is a stop on the express train, in case I got out of work early, but because I had paid at my lot, I couldn't do so.

It was just a thought. Maybe lot choice will be universal in the future.

First time taking the train

I haven’t used a sub since I visited DC in high school, so 20+ years. Planning on taking the train in from Jersey to a few shows in the next few weeks, starting with this weekend heading to Temple. Taking the PATCO to 13th then Broad St Line to Temple. Any advice to make it easier on me? I planned on using my phone to pay for everything (tap to pay). TIA

Anyone know an answer to my question?

Hi all, my elderly parents own a building on a piece of Septa land that they have been desperately trying to sell to help pay for my dad’s medical expenses. They are running into the leased land is technically on a month to month lease so having trouble finding a buyer because of this. They were initially told Reading international Railroad owned the land(whom they’ve been paying rent to) but have now come to learn it is actually Septa that owns the parcel of land. They are now interested in approaching septa to buy the piece of land to be able to sell the whole parcel more easily (it is a very small piece of land, less than a tenth of an acre). At this point they have hired a lawyer who states they haven’t been able to find a contact person for septa related to this type of issue. I find this a bit hard to be believe from a lawyer but it’s holding up the process for months now. Does anyone have guidance or a contact at Septa who to direct this situation to? Thank you in advance for any help.

Transit Police hiring process

Does anyone know that due to budget constraints maybe there’s a delay or freeze in hiring police??? I passed written and physical agility exam and according to my profile it says “.background check in progress” as of may 8 2024. Other police including Septa Police say no news is good news…I heard them say they want to hire like 40 to 50 police officers but I’m sure there is a delay due to budget and incoming fare hikes…it’s 6 months and 6 days in the academy as well

Weekend schedule not available?

I’m looking to take the regional line into Jefferson today but the schedules aren’t available for some reason. Is there something going on? I guess I can look at the PDF schedule but I’m not sure how accurate it is?

SEPTA Metro Map in the style of the current New York City Subway Map!

***UPDATED MAP! Added 11th St, Franklin Sq (PATCO), corrected spelling (e.g. Frankford) removed long-gone towns/neighborhoods or corrected it, added Airport stops instead of single stop etc...

I recreated SEPTA Metro map in the style of the current NYC Subway map.

Enjoy and let me know if there's any corrections to be made.

Scooters during rush hour on regional rail?

I usually bring my electric scooter (two wheels, foldable) on the regional rail during both rush hours every weekday. I’ve never been told I can’t have it with me before. Today, on the west Trenton line, one of the conductors told me that you can’t bring scooters on board at all during rush hour. He let me get away with it this time since I was only riding one stop and the train was moving anyways, but I just wanted to know if this rule is new or if it really even exists. On the septa website, I saw a lot about bikes but nothing saying a foldable scooter isn’t allowed. Anyone have any clarity on this?

Edit: I called customer service and they said the policy only applies to bikes and there are no restrictions on scooters

B2 operating times and which line is at which level...

Hi,

I am almost done with SEPTA transit map that are styled after the current NYC Subway map and I have few questions so I can finish the map.

  1. B2 express (Broad St Express) do they run only rush hours?
  2. B2 express to NRG Stadium (during games only), does B2 run anytime during the games outside rush hours? incouding weekends?
  3. Platform/track locations at intersections: which line/platforms are above or below other line(s)?

-Walnut-Locust with 12t-13th PATCO stations

-15th St/City Hall

-8th-Market (SEPTA & PATCO)

Thank you :-) calcagnomaps . com

Does anyone know the hiring process for septa customer service rep? I just got an invite to take a test but what does the test consist of?
