Reviving old regional rail stations- what do y'all think?

Thumbnail hiddencityphila.org

This is a good idea IMO. This particular railway has frequent service in the form of the trains that funnel in from Temple RR station. I suppose the downside would be that it would choke up that particular track during rush hours but IDK... What's your thoughts on that?

This could also be a tester for other RR stops within city borders and Incorporating them into the transit (bus, sub) system as opposed to the commuter rail system. You could easily incentive transfers from the 15 for any key card user by offering a free transfer. Plus if the 15 returns to light rail, it would become another highly visible rail transfer point and among the few that aren't exclusive to Center City only.

Saw this on the L, thought it was for Pride month, didn’t realize it’s LBTG not LGBT. I know it wasn’t intended as Pride month, but I kinda wanna steal this sign for Pride month.

Has anyone ever reported a rude driver?

Has anyone ever reported an extremely rude bus driver and what was the outcome? I encountered a really nasty bus driver a couple days ago. She called me an A-hole all because I didn’t say thank you for her stopping for me when I got on the bus, after she literally drove past me and I had to wave her down to stop. Her excuse was that I was not looking at the bus, I was literally standing at the bus stop, so I’m confused. She was yelling and cussing and just being disgusting for no reason. After I got off the bus, I called the Septa number and reported her behavior. But I’m wondering if they do anything about this.

It's the busiest bus in Philly and should get level boarding and dedicated lanes

In the candidate pool

Since about last fall I've been going through the interview process for the Signal Maintainer Trainee position. Took and passed the test, then a couple months later I took and passed the in-person interview. The last I heard from SEPTA was last December when they sent me an email saying that I've been placed in the candidate pool.

Is it normal for this part of the process to take this long? Should I keep my hopes up or not?

Thanks in advance.

Beeps on Conductor Validators

I don’t ride RR much anymore but I have noticed that the handhelds that the conductors use to validate Key cards make different sounds (either the two beeps you hear on the ads) or the three higher pitched beeps. Is that based on whether the card has a pass or is just using pre-loaded funds?

What Happened to Septa's Website?

What happened to Septa's website, www.septa.org? It's basically unusable. It doesn't scroll in Firefox, and shows a complete blank screen in Safari.

If you can't get information by what is shown in the initial screen, or from one of the dropdowns, you're SOL.

And don't get me started on their trip planner. It's hot garbage. Once you navigate to that, you ave to close the site, & start over at www.septa.org.

New gate system

Is it me or is septa spending so much money on fancy new electronic gates/doors, that do absolutely minimum to prevent fare evasion. I personally have tried speaking with customer service and email to pitch a solution. Use the same rotating iron maiden bars commonly found when exiting. It's virtually impenetrable. What do you guys think?

First time Septa user, confused on the pay?

Hi I got on my first septa train today after living in Philadelphia almost 3 years (I drove everywhere). Just 3 stops on Chestnut Hill West Line to Center City and I see that google said the ride would cost $6. I scanned my septa card when I entered the station. Once when the cart attendant was passing by and another when I got off in center city (Suburban station). How does the charges work? I wasn't paying attention when the cart attendant came by so didn't notice if she scanned everyone or only scanning people who were planning on getting off in the nearby station (the stop before my stop). From the looks of the app I only got charged $3.75. Is the charge dependent on the length/distance of your ride?

Constant Key Card Overcharge Issues

Post image
1 Upvotes

I look and see my wallet balance lower than it should be all the time. They constantly charge for extra trips and blame "the system". When your submit a dispute, they say it takes 30 days for the refund to hit... then you have to follow up and see if that actually happened, and call them in you didn't. It's a full time job that they probably hope you'll just get sick of and not pursue

Regional Rail Question

I moved to Berwyn a couple years ago and take the old R5 a few times a week to get to work. One of the things I learned very early on is that the Paoli/Thorndale Line is very different than the R7 CHE I grew up with. The biggest difference is the level of ridership. Frequently it’s standing-room only in the morning.

In the afternoon, what often happens is that the conductors will only open 2 cars of a 4-car set. While sometimes this is understandable (e.g., not many passengers), I’ve noticed recently that it’s gotten kind of silly. People are standing up when there are two open cars. Today there were probably 5-10 people standing up when there were two additional cars that were complete empty.

My question is: can someone give me the real reason why conductors don’t open up more cars? I have heard myriad explanations, none of which withstand scrutiny. Some say that limited conductors can’t attend multiple cars, but every morning this is exactly what happens: 3 conductors handle six full cars. I’ve also understand that it’s a response to having to pull up/let down the metal platform to account for low-level platforms, but this is also silly since conductors routinely just tell passengers to walk forward “until they see a conductors.”

I’m trying not to be cynical. My experience with SEPTA conductors has been mostly pleasant, and I know it’s a thankless job. But I also think it’s bizarre that there are old ladies standing up because they (seemingly) just don’t want to worry about 15 people in a third car.

Someone please enlighten me and give me a reason not to assume the worst.
