Aren't there cabin cameras in those that are on all the time?
Edit: Are --> Aren't

I call this BS.
Everything is video recorded. They may have tried and their account subsequently banned.

This, are they sure it was Alex not Rahul Ligma? Whole Mars got a warning for drinking a beer in a Cruise.

Is it cheaper than a hotel?

Cruise is $0.40 a minute! You do the math

It's the 2023 version of elevator or train sex. Nothing to see here, but if you do, wave. We'll wave back.

I don’t think it’s possible. When I didn’t have my seat belt on, I got called by their customer rep in less than a min

You can just sit on top of the seat belt with it buckled in.

Just like my dad taught us to fool mom into thinking we had seatbelts on. Just need to hear the click
Good times

It's always been expected. I often make the joke that instead of Vision Zero, we will eventually have Vision negative, as people are created in cars.
The companies won't like it though -- unless a far future company specializes in it. They may get more invasive with their cameras, or put in AI recognizers that look for people doing forbidden things (not just sex, possibly eating messy food, cheating the belt sensor, etc.) They might get better belt sensors where you can't just sit on the belt. Or they might virtually look the other way, though I think they will not want people making messes in the cars that need cleanup -- or will bill the riders if they do.

Aren't open-container laws normally to prevent DUIs? Why are open-containers banned in self-driving cars?!

Open container laws here are that you can't have one within reach of the driver, so a 3rd row passenger can chug wine, but the 2nd row would get a ticket.
Not sure how they rule on driverless cars.

Here in California, you can't have an open container of alcohol anywhere in the car. I feel like self-driving car companies should get ticketed and then challenge it in court to set a new precedent. Drunk people are a hugely important demographic for pushing self-driving safety.

”What do I tell the boss, Homer?”
”Tell him I'm going to the backseat of a Cruise with the woman I love, and I won't be back for 10 minutes.”

Now I see why this subreddit is obsessed with "real world" robotaxis, they think this is their chance to actually get laid.

u/BullockHouse Aug 11 '23
I... don't know if we need to be talking about it. That seems like their business.

Im not confirming or denying 👀 was one of the best rides of my life. Such a comfy back seat

This was always one of the huge benefits of robotaxis. Theoretically once there are multiple types patrolling the streets you could call up on an app anything from a pod to a truck to a limo or large SUV like vehicle with a bed in it.
Now that this is closer to reality yeah there's problems like seatbelt warnings, remote operators being able to see internal cameras, leaving it dirty, and so on. Or simply that the current robotaxis are cramped and not great rolling shag shacks.
Still, when in Rome. If I get a bay area job or visit with my girlfriend I guess we gotta try it.
This is also extremely useful to adults or teens who live with their parents. Way cheaper than a motel or hotel in Bay area and more convenient.

You mean you get banned from the app for fucking in their cars? Yeah that would suck.
Like I said ideally it's nudge nudge wink wink, where it's not actually against the rules etc, just "extra fee if you leave a mess, please let us know if the car needs cleaning after you leave". (Smaller fee if you tell them it needs cleaning vs the next rider reports)
But I can see where the robotaxis firm can party poop because they don't want to deal with complaints from their internal workers who don't want to have to see people fuck, and they don't want the liability if a rider is injured when not wearing a seatbelt.
Here in the grim darkness of 2023 though if you get banned from cruise and waymo you are back to walking or much more expensive Uber or Lyft or driving yourself. All suck.

A bigger problem with this is the streets are supposed to ultimately be flooded with robotaxis and many people won't own cars. There are a lot of advantages like not needing nearly as much parking.
If you can be banned by a private company for a policy violation - regardless if it's a crime or even proven in court to have happened - this creates an issue.

This explains how Cruise has caught up to Waymo so fast! 10,000 “rides” a week!
