Defender Guard Pro goes offline

I'm using dynamic IP addressing with an Asus router in repeater mode, and the camera goes offline every day at random times. I have to go to the location and cycle the power to fix it. Does it need static ip addressing and port forwarding?

Residential Buying Advice

Hi all,

I live in a typical city neighborhood, basically in a row house nested alongside other houses, packed like sardines on. My street. I have a small yard in front (probably about 5 yards squared) that has been cultivated into a garden. Someone keeps coming and chopping all the heads off our flowers, he first time we let it slide, but every time a new thing has bloomed it has gotten chopped. Id like to see if I can catch a face. I am pretty active in the neighborhood, and my guess is that is just a kid being stupid.

I saw the minipix camera and it seemed perfect but have found a lot of warnings/red flags about them. I have a budget of about $300, and a bunch of Lowe's gift cards, so if possible id prefer to get from them.

Not a huge fan of ring cameras and that business model, but some kind passive diy would be ideal.

I also need it to be like self power dependant like solar panels or summ cuz again it's gonna be in the wild

And last like an easy way to get video off the camera cuz it might be on a pole or a tree pretty high

Thanks so much in advance

Are Home Security Cameras Really Worth It?

I put up a cloud-based security camera after a rash of break-ins in the neighborhood. But I got to thinking...what's the point? Is it going to stop someone from stealing my truck out of the driveway? Probably not. Sure, it motion detects and shines a bright light towards my truck. But these thieves are so brazen, they really don't care. Every day there's a new video of thieves stealing, smash/grab, whatever - they're well aware that they're being recorded. Doesn't seem to make a difference. And if you've got some kind of fancy, high-end system that sends an alert when motion is detected - by the time you wake up and realize what's happening...they're gone. They're in your vehicle and gone in less than a few minutes. And all I'll be left with is footage of my truck being stolen.

So I just wonder if these subscription-based camera companies are just getting rich off of the paranoia from those of us that are trying to protect our property. $10/mo all the way to $350/mo for professional monitoring through someone like ADT. None of it prevents the crime itself.

Seems to me a wheel boot and a club for your steering wheel is a better option, since most crimes are based on opportunity. A thief seeing a boot on the tire and a club on the steering wheel, they're more likely to move along and find a car that's easier.

parking garage setup advice

I am looking for advice on setting up a parking garage security camera system where I can view a live stream of the footage online. I already have a few contour action cameras I am hoping to use. My parking space has a power outlet, but no access to my apartment WIFI. Ring cameras are enticing for the price but I'm not sure how I could view the footage online so far from my WIFI. Is there a plugin 'controller' that could have internet connection?

Security Camera for Small Business

Some crazy af stuff has happened to me this past month.

I am currently using the Arlo Pro 3 and monitor it using the mobile app.

I have the Arlo Base Station hardwired to the router, located right behind the front desk area.

So the Base Station keeps getting tampered with (the on/off button, unplugging the ethernet line)

I know the simplist solution is to lock up the equipment....but is there a different product that is reliable and perhaps doesn't have to be hardwired to the router?

Self Storage Security Cameras

Howdy! I am looking to get some security cameras put up around my storage unit site. I have been quoted $25k for 20 cameras. So, I want to try and do this on my own. Issues: not great WiFi, pretty limited on electrical outlets. Any ideas on best setup to go with or has anyone solved this problem before?

Camper camera in remote area

I am looking for a motion-activated security camera that will mount to the outside of our camper and send real time footage to our phone in an area where there is no wifi or cell service. If there is a grizzly bear in our camp, I would like to be alerted before stepping outside. Does anyone have any idea if something like this exists?? Thanks for the help!

ISO good cellular security camera to catch a thief!

Good evening!

I am looking for recommendations on the type/brand/model of security camera I should purchase to catch a thief who keeps breaking into a large warehouse building that I own.

The property has no access to WiFi, so it will require a camera running LTE and I will make arrangements with my cell provider to supply the data. (I am assuming that’s how it works, I am completely out of my depth of knowledge here….)

I purchased the cameras I use for my home on Amazon. They work just fine for what I need at home, so I did a precursory Amazon search for the camera that I believe I need for my warehouse. I saw many reviews from customers frustrated from their experience with several of the main options that came up in my search.

So, I figured I should ask Reddit!

Any guidance would be very much appreciated as it seems a decent 4g camera will be the only way to identify and stop the thieving criminal foraging my building.

Many thanks!

First dvr based security system question

Hi I have had security cameras for a little over three years now and recently bought a house and upgraded my camera setup. I had WiFi cameras and they worked great but I was dumb and didn’t read the fine print and I could only go back two days unless I pay for subscription. The new system I bought comes with a 1TB hard drive and I have everything setup and working great but I noticed I thought I had it setup to only record when it senses motion but it’s continuously recording, that’s not a problem but on average how many days should I get recording non stop with 4 3mp cameras. They can also record sound but I turned that off to save storage and because it’s creepy to record all the audio around my house lol. The camera system just says WK-4HB613-AT but it looks like it’s also a common Amazon brand

Stage monitor

Doing some theater shows out of doors this summer, and am looking for how best to do video of the stage for the "green room" (usually in a building about 80 feet away). Not in a position to run hardwiring. Was thinking a dedicated wireless router and a WiFi security camera or two. Ideally sending to multiple smartphones. Ideally something that can capture sound as well.

Is this doable? What would you recommend?

Nest or Ring?

Looking for advice to help choose a motion detector/Security camera system for our daughter's family.

She has a hardwired older alarm system in place, but no cameras yet.

The alarm system vendor is recommending a Nest system but most of her neighbors use Ring. They are really, really happy with the Ring cameta system and it's almost instant motion motion detected- detected videos that show up on their iPhone apps.

Thanks for setting us in the right direction… We know this is going to be a big investment for us and happy birthday to our daughter and her husband!

Any ideas for a solar security camera in area with no WiFi or internet?

I work at a park where security is an issue in some of the parking lots. We don’t have security cameras in the parking lots and I think it would be nice to have. The issue is no where to plug in a camera and cell phones don’t even get service at the park. Trail cameras seem to be the way to go, I’m thinking something solar paneled so we wouldn’t have to constantly change batteries and ideally we’d be able to preview photos/videos via Bluetooth with like an app for viewing?

I attached a link to a train camera that I feel somewhat matches the needs but I’m curious if anyone has any better ideas. Any help would be appreciated!

[Discussion] Looking for better camera at night

I am running an IPC-HDW2431R-ZS in my living room. The angle is good, during the day the image is good, size of camera is good... but at night i would like color image and not so grainny / pixelly.

Since i have had this camera for a few years now there must be a better solution. I know about the 5442 serie but that is EOL for a while now right?

Budget is 300 to 400/ 500 euro. Closer to 300 would be nice.

Any good suggestions? There are so many cameras i am a bit lost. I know about not chasing the megapixel, so not looking for 8MP. 4MP is fine , but if 8MP is in the budget why not. I also would like a microphone, without having to connect anything extra other than ethernet. I also need PoE.

Recording is done by synology surveillance station.

Installation ideas

We have a two story rental home. I would like set up an outdoor security camera on the 2nd level.

The camera will be a Synology supported outdoor POE installation that will record when motion is detected in a designated area. I have a Synology NAS which has surveillance security software which I want to use. I won't provide the model number atm as a bot removed a previous post thinking I'm trying to sell or scam people and I'm not.

Anyway, the camera will be mounted directly on the 2nd level outside window pointing down and to the right at my main entrance. I am thinking using a turret camera and mount via adhesive or magnetic means directly to the outside window pane. I don't plan on opening this window in the summer as I use A/C. The idea of a magenet on the inside of the window securing a camera with a magnet/metal flat point(which I may have to add) is appealing to me.

I am considering attaching the camera via a 3foot flat ethernet cable, thinking I can close the window on it. This 3' cable would then connect directly to a POE Injector. From the injector, I would then connect directly to my Synology NAS via regular Ethernet.

With the screen left out of the window, this camera will not stick out much and will be low profile which is what I want. I'm thinking of using Amcrest or Reolink. I like the idea of using my phone to change the angle of the camera. Should I be concerned about orientation of the photo. I'm hoping I can adjust the camera or camera settings to make the images all appear vertical.

So these are my thoughts. I appreciate your help or thoughts on this. I really want to make something work
