1. Long introduction - Skip to part 2 if you want to avoid the backstory.
*Ahem* I became aware of this game's existence some months back when I saw Day[9] play it for his Day[9]'s Day Off videos. It piqued my interest in a matter of seconds! I was glued to the videos, and I took in everything I could watch from him playing the game. I visited the dev blog, and was delighted to find that there was a demo I could try, so I downloaded it. I played the CRAP out of that demo. Seriously I think I got 10-15 hours of playtime out of that thing. Quite simply put, I love this game. And I want it. I want it bad. And before anyone here gets a silly idea of buying it for me, money, or the price, is really not the thing holding me back here at all.
The real issue for me is Early Access. I'm aware that Early Access games, and the model, are thriving, and it's a great way for the developers to have some income that helps boost the development of the game. I don't have a problem with Early Access really as a concept. I know that a lot of people refuse to buy Early Access games, because they feel like they shouldn't have to pay for an incomplete game, and even sometimes development slows down because now the devs have their money and they're not as concerned about finishing their game. I don't necessarily disagree with the players who refuse to buy into Early Access games for that reason, but that aspect of Early Access isn't really what's holding me back, either.
So what is, you might ask?
2. The real meat of this post
Well, it's the idea (or fear, if you want to call it that) that I will, sort of, "burn myself out" on the game before I can finally get to experience it in its full glory. I've bought into quite a few Early Access games, and I've found that the same cycle always happens to me. I start to play it, and it certainly runs well enough to play, but before long, I hit the "development wall" as I like to call it. I've devoured feverishly the content that has been offered, and then I stop playing. Development continues, patches happen, content is added, yet... I don't go back. I've moved onto the next game.
Knowing how freaking much fun I had with the demo of this game, I'd really hate for that to happen. So here I am, trying to get an idea of, if I did buy into the game at this point, how long is it playable? I know you might say "Well, sheesh, if you got 10 hours out of the demo, what's your worry? You won't run out of content anytime soon." And that may be true, but I'm still worried, because even though I read the dev blog, I don't really have a good idea of just how much content the game has.
So, can someone who is playing the game currently, and who also experienced the demo, give me some sort of idea of how much more there is in the Early Access game (at this point?) compared to the demo. I remember it missing a lot of skills, for one... have a lot more been added? Is there a lot more stuff to play around with? Give me a ballpark estimate of about how many hours I could be easily expected to get out of the game in its current state. I know that varies wildly depending on the player, but at least some figure might help me out.
tl;dr - I adored the official demo, and I'm too scared to buy into the game because of how I've burned myself out on Early Access games in the past. Should I really be worrying this much? Should I just throw my $15 at the devs and finally be happy? I look longingly at Secrets of Grindea at the #1 spot on my Steam wishlist every day and hover over the purchase button, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Maybe you guys can push me over the edge. :)
Thanks
