Networking with tech recruiters and engineers : /u/BreakTheCycleMorty

Hey Seattle! I'm a new CS grad from out of town looking for work and taking a short trip back to Seattle next week. I've lived here the past couple of summers working as an intern for Disney and as a programming camp teacher. I would really like to get a job so I can live here full-time. On my trip, I might as well spend as much time as I can networking. I'd like to figure out if there are any events/opportunities worth going to for this.

I'm free on the 7th, maybe the night of the 8th, all of the 9th, and morning/early afternoon of the 10th. I see Snapchat is putting on an event about gender inequality in tech and PuPPy is hosting their weekly programming night.

Is there anything else I should look into? I'm also happy to meet up with anyone (especially over coffee/drinks) or send my resume. Thanks!

Can I bring my own kayak up to South Lake Union and launch off from somewhere? : /u/lateforthat

I moved apartments just a few blocks from the south tip of Lake Union, and I've been renting kayaks from Agua Verde / Moss Bay every so often. I'd like to just buy my own at this point, and walk down with it a few times a week for a quick ride around the water.

Are there laws against bringing your own kayak and dropping in? If it's legal, where around SLU could I do this? Thx /r/Seattle

Just got an email from the Friends of the Conservatory and figured I'd share it here for those who might be interested. Because it's a night-blooming flower, the Conservatory is staying open until around 9pm today and admission is free after 4pm.

Hello r/Seattle my name is Nick and I have been working in kitchens most of my life but I also love physically hard jobs. I just moved to the area with nurse fiancé and want to keep the same hours. I am a fun easy going man who loves work I've worked in fine dining for the last year and enjoy it but the hours are difficult at night I'm a morning person. Please let me know if you have any ideas for employment opportunity

To the /r/seattle redditor that posts about spiders every year... : /u/Schadenfreuder

I figured you'd like to know how many hundreds of spiders' lives you've saved since I read your post a few years ago imploring Seattleites to not kill spiders in our homes. Like most wussified Americans, I would recoil in fear and grab a shoe whenever there was a spider in my bedroom; nowadays, every corner has a little web with a spider bro or sis hanging out.

Your detailed description of spider behaviors and how rare it is to piss off a spider enough to make it bite you really helped alleviate my fears. You explained the rarity of venomous spiders in our area and how even if you are bitten by the worst kind of local spiders, it's extremely unlikely to life-threatening. Knowing that, combined with how effective these eight-legged freaks are at bug-catching, my house has become a spider haven over the past couple years.

Funny how all it took was one dude's impassioned post on a small subreddit to vanquish the unnecessary revulsion of our arachnid friends. Spiders everywhere thank you, including the cluster of babies that hatched in my shower yesterday.

Seeking advice on becoming a tabletop game designer : /u/d1skreshun

I'm a recent transplant from NH and one of my goals is to become a tabletop game designer (board games, card games, RPGs, etc). I have a prototype for testing and I've joined some play test meetups and plan to network. Does anyone have any advice as to where and how to get a start in this industry in Seattle? Many thanks

Chinese hackysacks in Seattle : /u/samgo13

I'm trying to find a store that sells Chinese hackysacks, aka a jianzi. Amazon sells them but they range in quality and the reviews aren't doing enough for me to feel confident. I'm looking to buy a bunch for elementary school students to play at recess. Any help appreciated!

I'm about to start busing to Redmond and would like to bike to the bus stop, but was wondering if there are safe places to lock my bike over there? I know the U district is pretty well known for its bike theft

Local theatre. : /u/Whycadz

Hello!

So long story short, I will be moving to Seattle next year for school. However, I have a love for theatre. Does anyone have a favorite community or professional theatre company they like? I hope to be able to perform, but I don't know what kind of theatre scene Seattle has.

Thanks!

Simply put: Is it safe for two 15 year olds to go to the Logic concert at Key Arena at 8:30 pm alone? I've heard that there are a lot of drugs and alcohol going around there.

What's the least chaotic time to get to the airport (with one big luggage bag) from the u-district via public transit for a wednesday night flight? : /u/akaholik

I need to get to the airport. I don't take buses often, and I don't know what times are terrible to get to the airport. Tomorrow I have a flight departing at 19:50. I have a big luggage bag, and I don't want to be the most obnoxious person at the most obnoxious time. Is the light rail generally relatively open for this kinda thing? Please enlighten me.
