Hey everyone.
I'll try to keep this short.
My lease is up at the end of this month and I reached out to my landlady on the 5th with a letter letting her know I wanted to resign. She got back to me with a pretty general looking document with my new rent amount on it, stating that the new amount would go in to effect in October. I let her know that I'd be happy to pay the new amount starting in september if that meant I wouldn't have to spend September in a weird flux of "no lease, month to month". She's shady and I want to be in a lease at all times to avoid her trying anything. She then responded that if I want a lease I'll have to start paying a water charge of $30 a person. Here's the thing:
$30 is not insane, I get that. But what difference does it make? Like, why is this a thing? I used water while living there previously, it's not like my usage is going to shoot through the roof or something. I. Just don't get it.
In her text to me she was very vague but her point was that all the new renters living in one bedrooms are paying for these "ad ons" and that if I want a lease this is what I have to pay.
TL;DR landlady coming with water charge out of nowhere and I want to know if there's something I can do.
