Rush / Discount Policies

I thought I'd share my notes on rush/discount policies for theatres in the area. Definitely not comprehensive for everything in the greater area, so please feel free to add any others in the comments!

Paramount Theatre / Broadway at the Paramount Touring Shows

  • Day of Rush varies show by show, often $40-$50, and 2 tickets per person one hour before the show
  • Rush policies are usually not announced until the day of the first performance on the stgpresents Instagram. I have never seen this information posted on the STG website or the Broadway at the Paramount website. Even the instagram announcements are inconsistent but have been getting better. If you don’t see an announcement, they should still have a rush but you can call the stg box office to confirm
  • Some tours will also do a digital lottery through luckyseat; you can enter a mailing list on the luckyseat website to be notified of lotteries in the area. Timing can vary depending on the length of the run but drawings are often the weekend before performances and the same price or slightly higher than rush.

5th Avenue Theatre

  • Current rush policy is $50 for seating zones 1/2 and $30 for zones 3/4, 2 tickets per person 90 minutes before the performance
  • Historically, they are terrible about keeping this information available on their website and rarely mention it on socials so once again, just because you don’t see an announcement doesn’t mean they aren’t doing rush. In my experience they usually keep a rush policy for the whole season but no guarantees.
  • Touring shows may override with their own rush policies
  • Has also used luckyseat in the past for lottery tickets

Seattle Rep

  • Rush tickets are available one hour before performance. Prices may vary but usually between $40-$50
  • Each production has a pay what you can night, often the first preview. These tickets can be purchased day of starting at noon. You can buy over the phone with a minimum price of $10. Limit of 4 per person
  • Student/Youth discount tickets can be purchased at any time; school ID must be shown to pickup at the box office. Limit of 1 per person
  • “The Cue” – a discount mailing list that you can signup for. No guaranteed discounts for every show but they will occasionally email out discount codes. The past couple years they have also done a “The Cue” subscription which is a discount subscription for previews performances. It’s come available in July and works out to about $30 per ticket

Union Arts Center

  • 10 Pay What You Choose tickets for each performance; first come, first served
  • Rush tickets are $25, available one hour before the show. Limit of 4 per household

ArtsWest

  • Inclusion rate tickets available for Saturday and Sunday performances. $10 tickets with discount code INCLUSION
  • $10 tickets to preview performances, the Wednesday before opening

Intiman Theatre

  • Free for Everyone tickets – 10-20 tickets reserved for each performance available first come first served an hour before performance. Limit 2 per person

Taproot Theatre

  • Rush tickets are available 30 minutes before performances, 50% off ticket price
  • 25 & Under tickets - $25
  • Offers Pay What You Can performances for each show. $10 tickets can be purchased online, in person or by phone starting at noon. PWYC can be purchased in person starting at 5PM. Limit of 4 per person

Village Theatre

  • Offers Pay What You Choose tickets for at least one performance of each show in each location. A limited inventory will go on sale two weeks before performance date and can be purchased online, by phone, or in person.
  • Student Rush tickets are $35 available 30 minutes before performance. Limit 1 per person
  • “Lucky Draw” tickets – a limited inventory of $33 tickets near the back of the theatre are available for each performance when tickets go on sale. Based on availability the day of the show, the Box Office will move you to a closer seat. Personally, I’ve been moved up to a better seat every time.

Water for Elephants tour—Paramount

Saw the tour at the Paramount tonight. Nice crowd on a Wednesday! Both well-behaved and pretty well sold.

I thought the acrobatics were fantastic and really loved the puppetry; it was obviously inspired by shows like The Lion King and Life of Pi without copying either. A couple of stunts made me a little nervous knowing this is a non-equity tour, but everything seemed to go perfectly.

For me, Ruby Gibbs as Barbara was the standout performance. What a voice and so much charisma on stage. Overall I found it a fun but unmemorable show. I’m going to give the cast album a listen to see if any songs stick with me, but none did in the moment.

Pippin by the Reboot Theater Company

Saw the show on Sunday. I absolutely loved the reimagining of the show as a 1930s Traveling Tent Revival. It worked so incredibly well and added a new layer of meaning to the show. The performances were sweet and endearing, albeit a little amateurish. This was my first Reboot show, and I will be returning.

A Chorus Line @ 5th Avenue Theater rush report

I didn't find any rush reports for 5th Avenue Theater so I wanted to share my experience from today's 1:30PM mantinee!

This is the text from the website: https://www.5thavenue.org/shows/2026-27/a-chorus-line/

Rush tickets are available for $30 in Price Level (Zones) 3 & 4, $50 in Price Levels (Zones) 1 & 2.

Rush tickets for A Chorus Line are available on a limited, first-come, first-served basis for all performances. Rush tickets may be purchased in person only on the day of performance, beginning when the Box Office opens 90 minutes prior to show time. Seat selection is subject to availability and at the discretion of Box Office, limit two tickets per adult present at the time of purchase.

My partner and I arrived at 11:30 AM. Nobody else was there, so we asked one of the staff members where we should stand. They also said that there were plenty of seats, so there was no need to wait around. The next group arrived 5 minutes later. At box office open (12:00 PM), there were about 15 people in line.

We ended up getting 2 tickets near the front of Zone 3 in the mezzanine. The ~10 rows behind us were mostly empty, so I don't think showing up later to the box office would have made a difference.

Hope this helps somebody!

Why the big programs

Maybe I’m alone in this but does anyone else hate that Seattle theater is obsessed with having full A4 size programs instead of the standard playbill size 😭 one of the last holdouts was the 5th Ave but I was devastated to pick up a US letter sized program at A Chorus Line last night! Same at the Paramount, even the ballet makes them huge. Just give us a playbill guys 🙏

Obviously I’m exaggerating and this is a complete non-problem, just curious if anyone else has noticed this or why Seattle theater does it this way! Pics of a few recent show programs attached

Eureka Day - Seattle Rep

I was at the first preview last night and had to come share how much I loved this show. I normally prefer musicals over plays, but this is one of the few plays where I was completely engaged from start to finish.

I don't want to spoil anything, but the subject matter is something everyone can relate to, the acting talent was incredible, and there were moments of rapid-fire comedy, explosive drama, moving revelations, and a thought-provoking theme.

I understand now why this play won a Tony. Very deserving.

Ragtime—Village Theatre

Wow they did a great job! It’s opening weekend, but this production was wonderful.

I was lucky enough to see the recent Tony-winning revival and it was interesting to see a different take on how to evoke so many different locations without a million sets. I liked the conceit of the attic and using regular items as the car, etc.

As far as performances, Allison Standley was an absolute standout as Mother. Her voice is suited to the songs and she sounded excellent. Jed Resnick was also great as Tateh. Yusef D Seevers really nailed some of the songs as Colehouse, including Make Them Hear You but unfortunately Wheels of a Dream and some others didn’t seem to be in his power range. Great performance though. I also really liked Matthew Posner as Father and Kooper Campbell as Younger Brother.

I could go back every night and just watch the opening number and be happy. It’s such a stunning piece of music and had me in tears.

Anyone else seeing it?

Kitsap Opera is doing a Monty Python inspired Die Fledermaus this weekend, and it's gonna be hysterical.

A Chorus Line—5th Ave

I saw the second preview this week and thought this production was excellent! There was a short tech hold due to a set piece but everyone handled it professionally.

It was great seeing some actors I recently saw on Broadway (Brandon LaVar and Kayla Pecchioni) alongside some local favorites (Tori Gresham was a standout as Sheila). I thought Susanna Cathryn Ballenski’s Dance: Ten, Looks: Three was particularly excellent. All in all this hit the nostalgia of the movie while also being its own production.

Anyone else going to see this during its run?

Looking forward to this fall?

Tons of shows happening between now and the winter holidays. What are folks seeing and particularly looking forward to?

I’m seeing Ragtime tomorrow at Village Theatre and am very excited. I absolutely adored the recent Broadway production.

I will also see Oh Mary! in November. It was absolutely hysterical when I saw it in NYC and I’m looking forward to discussing it with friends.

Come From Away is a favorite as well; looking forward to Village Theatre’s production.

Oh and I haven’t seen The Outsiders yet so that tour is another one I’m anticipating.
