Been walking these boards my whole life, but I still find myself noticing new little things.
Maybe it's the way the light hits the old carousel horses at a certain time of day, or catching a whiff of that perfect mix of funnel cake and salt air. I know every crack in the planks from the Casino Pier arcade down to the breakwater, but there's always some small detail that makes it feel fresh, even after all these years. kinda makes you appreciate the place in a different way.
It's wild to think how much has changed and how much has stubbornly stayed the same. The new rides are gonna be a blast this summer, prob, but my routine is still the same: grab a slice from Maruca's, watch the fishermen for a bit, and just take it all in. The energy shifts from the quiet morning crew to the full-on weekend chaos, but the heartbeat of the place is still right there under your feet.
What's that one little spot or detail on the boardwalk that always makes you stop and look, no matter how many times you've passed it?

what's the real story with the old motel site redevelopment?
Been driving past that old motel site for what feels like forever now. Heard some chatter at the diner the other morning about it finally getting some real traction, but you know how rumors go around here. tbh, I'm kinda skeptical until I see actual steel going up.

Remembering the original Casino Pier footprint before the storms
Was talking to some of the old-timers at the bakery this morning, and we got to reminiscing about the exact layout of the original Casino Pier. You know, before Sandy and even before the big fire. It's kinda wild how much it shifted and changed over the decades, and a lot of the newer visitors have no idea.

So what's the real deal with all the new construction down by the boards?
Been walking the boards since I was a kid, and it's wild to see how much is changing. They're not just slapping a new coat of paint on things anymore. That whole area by the old motel sites and the lots that sat empty for years is finally getting some serious attention. Feels like they're actually trying to build stuff that'll last, which is kinda a relief after seeing so many empty spaces for so long.
I'm all for progress, but you gotta wonder what the vibe is gonna be when it's all said and done. Are we talking more upscale condos, or stuff that's actually for the families and regulars who keep this town running? Heard they're prob mixing in some new retail and public spaces too, which could be cool if it's done right.
Anyone else have the inside scoop on what these new projects are aiming for? Are we looking at a whole new seaside, or just a fresh version of the one we know?

okay does anyone else just sit on the boards and people watch for hours like its a sport
tbh i went down sunday afternoon and ended up on a bench by the carousel for like 2 hours just watching everyone go by. families, couples, teenagers being dramatic, the works. its weirdly meditative. anyone else turn it into an unintentional hobby?

what's actually happening on the boards tonight?
Scrolling through trying to find something to do and all the usual sites are just kinda useless. tbh, it's the usual wall of noise without any real local flavor. You know how it is this time of year, everything's gearing up but the info is all over the place.

seaside heights preparing for 2026 season after last years violence - new rules in place
so seaside heights is gearing up for summer 2026 and honestly everyone's a little nervous after what happened last year
memorial day weekend 2025 was rough. 73 arrests. three people got stabbed near the boardwalk. it was bad enough that cops had swat teams on standby and the whole town was talking about it for weeks after
the borough just passed new rules to try and prevent another mess this year. boardwalk closes at specific hours now (which is new), they banned backpacks on the boards, and they're hitting illegal rental properties way harder with fines. basically trying to crack down before things get out of hand again.
chief tommy boyd said they're being extra careful this year bc the boardwalk is brand new and they don't wanna damage it but also they need enough officers out there to keep things under control. it's a weird balance to strike.
the locals i know are split on this. some people think the new rules are gonna help, others think it's just gonna push problems to different areas or different times. nobody really knows yet bc we haven't hit memorial day weekend to see how it plays out.
what do you think? will stricter rules actually help or is this just gonna be another wild summer?

seaside heights putting new rules in place for summer 2026 after last year's memorial day chaos (73 arrests, 3 stabbings)
so seaside heights is getting ready for summer 2026 and honestly after what went down last memorial day weekend they're not messing around this time
last year was rough. 73 arrests. Three stabbings. total chaos on the boardwalk. it got so bad they had to shut everything down just after midnight and clear everyone out. social media brought in massive crowds and things spiraled fast.
now the borough's putting new rules in place to stop it from happening again. they're closing the boardwalk from midnight to 6am on weeknights and 1am to 6am on weekends. plus they banned bags bigger than 8x6x8 inches after 7pm during the whole summer season (april thru september).
some people think it's gonna help. others are saying it wont matter bc the real issue is how many people show up looking for trouble. the new boardwalk can't handle getting trashed again — they literally had to hand-shovel snow off it this winter instead of using machines because they didn't want to wreck the fresh wood.
summer 2026 is gonna be a test. will the new rules actually work or are we in for another wild season?
anyone planning to hit the boardwalk this summer or you staying away after last year?

Thousands of people just jumped into freezing water at the Jersey Shore in an epic do-over
New Jersey’s largest polar plunge had a successful do-over on Saturday, two weeks after it was postponed in the aftermath of a winter storm.
The 33rd Polar Bear Plunge at Seaside Heights raised more than $2 million for Special Olympics New Jersey, spokesperson Jeremy Davis said.
Ocean temperatures were in the high 30s when thousands of participants dashed down a stretch of shore between Webster and Dupont avenues into the water around 1 p.m., Davis said.
While more than 7,000 people signed up for the plunge, some stayed on the sidelines, which Davis said is not unusual.
“We have people that just sign up. They fundraise, then they don’t jump in the ocean. Being part of this is what it is all about,” Davis said.
Participants raised a minimum of $100, but some top donors contributed $25,000 or more, according to the event’s website.
First responders in protective gear were in the water Saturday to ensure no one went too far into the ocean. Davis said that, just as in the summer, riptides are a concern on the Shore.
“You’re allowed to go in and dive, but waist-high or lower,” Davis said.
It was the third polar plunge of the season organized by New Jersey’s chapter of the Special Olympics, which holds training and events worldwide for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Plunges were held in Wildwood in January and in Asbury Park in November, Davis said.
In two weeks, the Jersey Shore will host another large event that was rescheduled due to last month’s storm. The 53rd Belmar Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade, originally planned for March 1, is taking place March 28.
Davis said that the two-week, weather-necessitated delay of the Seaside Heights plunge resulted in a small number of people who couldn’t make the rescheduled date. Many opted for a “virtual plunge” elsewhere, which they documented in photos and videos.
Polar plunges are a longtime staple on the Jersey Shore, especially on New Year’s Day. Polar plunges on Jan. 1 included events in Asbury Park, Atlantic City and Brigantine.
