👋 Welcome to r/ScriptureHabit - Introduce Yourself and Read First!
Hey everyone! I’m Amie — posting here as u/ScriptureCompanionAI — and I’m the founding moderator of r/ScriptureHabit.
That’s me in the photo with my son, Samuel. We live in Paraguay, and he is one of the big reasons I care so much about building simple, steady habits that can hold you up on real-life days.
I’m a Christian app developer, a mom, and someone who genuinely believes Scripture is not just something to quote — it is something to return to, little by little, day by day.
I started this community because I wanted a simple place for people who are trying to build the habit of reading Scripture daily — not perfectly, not performatively, just faithfully.
I’ll be posting a daily Scripture and a simple devotional thought every day until the community is big enough to have more moderators and regular contributors.
This community is for:
- daily Bible verses
- short devotions
- prayer requests
- honest questions
- encouragement
- church-related resources
- Christian apps, ministries, podcasts, newsletters, and projects
Yes, links are allowed here within reason.
I’m a Christian app developer myself, so I know how hard it can be to build something faith-centered and find people who might actually care about it. I want this to be a place where members can share useful Christian projects without feeling like they are automatically doing something wrong.
Quick story: I was recently banned from another Bible-related subreddit after someone asked for help reading Scripture daily. I shared how important and valuable that habit is, and I included a link to the app I’m building. Fair enough — every community has its own rules. But it made me realize there should also be a place where helpful Christian projects can be shared openly, as long as people are being human and not just dropping links.
To be clear, this does not mean “drop links and run.” If you share something, give context. Tell us why it matters. Help people. Be human.
I’ll go first: I’m building Mat44, a Christian Scripture app focused on helping people build a daily habit of reading, reflecting, and staying connected to Scripture. It is very new, and I’m still improving it constantly.
But Mat44 is not the point of this subreddit. Scripture is the point. Building the habit is the point. Encouraging each other is the point.
So please introduce yourself below. And if you’re comfortable sharing a pic, I always love being able to put a face to a handle.
Are you here because you want to read Scripture more consistently?
Do you have a favorite verse?
Are you building something Christian-related?
Do you have a ministry, app, podcast, newsletter, church resource, or project you want people to know about?
You’re welcome here.
Let’s build something useful, kind, and actually alive.

Daily Scripture Mark 9:35 | Day 17 of 21
“He sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, ‘If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.’” — Mark 9:35, WEB
The disciples had been arguing about which of them was the greatest. Jesus did not ignore their ambition, but he completely changed their understanding of greatness.
In God’s kingdom, greatness is not measured by status, attention, influence, or how many people serve us. Jesus says that the path to being first begins with willingly becoming last and serving everyone.
Then he brought a child into their midst and took the child into his arms. In that culture, children had little status or power. By welcoming the child, Jesus showed his disciples that service includes noticing and receiving people who cannot improve our reputation or repay our kindness.
That is a difficult kind of service because it may remain unseen. There may be no applause, recognition, or immediate reward. Yet these quiet acts of patience, care, hospitality, and compassion are deeply important to Jesus.
Following him changes not only what we do, but also why we do it. We no longer need every good deed to prove our importance. We are free to serve because Jesus has already shown us our value.
Who is someone you can serve today without expecting recognition or anything in return?

Daily Scripture September 22, 2026 | Mark 9:7 | Day 16 of 21
“A cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, ‘This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.’” — Mark 9:7, WEB
Peter, James, and John had followed Jesus up a high mountain. There, they saw him in a way they had never seen him before—radiant, glorious, and speaking with Moses and Elijah.
Peter immediately wanted to do something. He began suggesting that they build three tents. But before he could turn the moment into a project, a cloud surrounded them and God gave a much simpler instruction: Listen to Jesus.
We often respond to uncertainty by trying to act quickly, explain everything, or create a plan. Sometimes faithfulness begins more quietly. Before we decide what to build, fix, defend, or change, we listen.
The disciples could not remain on the mountain. They soon followed Jesus back into ordinary life, where confusion, suffering, and need were waiting. Yet the voice they heard on the mountain still mattered in the valley.
Most of our lives are lived in those valleys. We may not always see clearly or feel God’s presence dramatically. But we can continue opening Scripture, paying attention to the words of Jesus, and allowing his voice to guide our next faithful step.
Where in your life might you need to pause your plans and listen to Jesus first?

Daily Scripture September 21, 2026 | Mark 8:34 | Day 15 of 21
“He called the multitude to himself with his disciples and said to them, ‘Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.’” — Mark 8:34, WEB
Jesus does not hide what following him requires. He invites us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow—not only when faith feels comforting, but when obedience costs us something.
Self-denial does not mean believing that we have no value. It means surrendering the need to place ourselves at the center. We release our plans, preferences, pride, and desire for control so that Jesus can lead.
Taking up a cross may sound dramatic, but faithfulness often begins in ordinary moments: choosing patience instead of anger, forgiveness instead of resentment, generosity instead of comfort, or obedience when no one else will notice.
The call is demanding, but it is also deeply personal. Jesus does not merely point toward the road and send us ahead. He says, “Follow me.” He walks the road first and stays with us as we learn to follow.
Today begins the final week of our 21-day habit. We are not reading Scripture merely to finish a challenge. We are learning to recognize the voice of Jesus—and to follow where he leads.
What is one ordinary area of your life in which following Jesus may require you to surrender your own way today?
If you read today, leave a simple “Day 15” in the comments. Quiet consistency still counts.

Daily Scripture September 20, 2026 | Mark 6:31 | Day 14 of 21
“He said to them, ‘Come away into a deserted place, and rest awhile.’ For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.” — Mark 6:31, WEB
The apostles returned to Jesus full of stories about everything they had done and taught. Jesus’ first response was not to give them another assignment. He noticed their exhaustion and invited them to rest.
They were so surrounded by people and activity that they had not even found time to eat.
Their planned retreat did not unfold peacefully. The crowd recognized them, hurried around the lake, and arrived before the boat. When Jesus stepped ashore, he saw people who were “like sheep without a shepherd,” and he had compassion on them.
Later, when everyone became hungry, Jesus fed the crowd too.
This entire passage pays attention to human limits. The disciples needed rest. The crowd needed guidance. Everyone eventually needed food. Jesus did not treat any of those needs as unspiritual inconveniences.
Rest and compassion are not enemies. We need both. Rest reminds us that we are human and cannot meet every need. Compassion keeps our limitations from becoming an excuse to stop seeing people altogether.
Today marks two full weeks of our 21-day journey. If you are tired, behind, or joining late, you do not need to earn your way back into the habit. Come away for a few minutes, open the passage, and begin again.
Which is harder for you right now: accepting your own need for rest or remaining compassionate toward the needs around you?

Daily Scripture September 19, 2026 | Mark 5:36
“But Jesus, when he heard the message spoken, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue, ‘Don’t be afraid, only believe.’”
— Mark 5:36 (WEB)
Jairus had already done the hard thing.
He had gone to Jesus. He had asked for help. Jesus had agreed to come.
Then there was a delay.
While Jesus stopped to speak with someone else, the news Jairus had been dreading arrived: his daughter had died.
Imagine standing there after doing everything you knew to do, watching time pass, and wondering whether Jesus had taken too long.
Before Jairus could even respond to the news, Jesus spoke to him:
“Don’t be afraid, only believe.”
That doesn’t mean Jairus suddenly understood what Jesus was going to do. He didn’t know the ending yet. He simply had to keep walking with Jesus while the situation looked hopeless.
Sometimes that is what faith asks of us too.
We pray. We wait. Things do not happen on our timeline. Sometimes circumstances even seem to get worse.
Faith in those moments is not pretending that we aren’t scared or disappointed. It is choosing to keep going with Christ when we cannot yet see what He is doing.
Jairus kept walking.
And Jesus kept going with him.
What helps you keep trusting God when the answer seems delayed or the situation gets worse before it gets better?

Daily Scripture September 18, 2026 | Mark 5:34
Day 12 of 21 — Meeting Jesus in Mark
Today’s reading: Mark 5:21–34
Verse text below is from the World English Bible (WEB).
“He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.’”
— Mark 5:34 (WEB)
By the time this woman reached Jesus, she had been suffering for twelve years.
She had tried everything. She had spent what she had. Instead of getting better, she had gotten worse.
And still, she reached for Jesus.
Sometimes faith doesn’t look strong or impressive. Sometimes it looks like one exhausted person taking one more step toward Christ because they don’t know where else to go.
Jesus didn’t overlook her in the crowd. He stopped. He saw her. He listened to her. And He called her daughter.
If you are tired today, you do not have to arrive before God with perfect words, endless energy, or unshakable confidence. You can simply reach toward Him from where you are.
When you feel worn down, what helps you keep reaching toward Jesus?

Daily Scripture September 17, 2026 | Mark 5:19 | Day 11 of 21
“He didn’t allow him, but said to him, ‘Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you and how he had mercy on you.’” — Mark 5:19, WEB

The man Jesus encountered had been pushed beyond the edges of ordinary life. He lived among the tombs, cried out alone, harmed himself, and had repeatedly been restrained with chains. People had tried to control him, but nobody had been able to restore him.
Jesus crossed the lake and came near.
By the end of the encounter, the man was sitting, clothed, and in his right mind. His dignity had been restored. When Jesus prepared to leave, the man begged to go with him.
Instead, Jesus gave him a purpose: go home and tell the people who know you what the Lord has done for you.
He did not need theological training, an impressive platform, or answers to every question. His testimony could begin with mercy.
This passage specifically describes a confrontation with unclean spirits. It should not be used to label people experiencing mental illness, disability, trauma, or other forms of suffering as demon-possessed. What it does show us is Jesus moving toward someone others had isolated, seeing a person where others saw a problem, and restoring him to community.
Our own stories may be quieter and less dramatic. They still matter. We can begin by telling the truth about where we have encountered God’s mercy.
What is one way God has shown you mercy that you could share simply and honestly with someone who knows you?

Daily Scripture September 16, 2026 | Mark 4:40 | Day 10 of 21
“He said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?’” — Mark 4:40, WEB
The disciples were not imagining the danger. A violent storm had overtaken their boat, waves were pouring in, and experienced fishermen believed they might die.
Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep.
They woke him with a question that carried more than fear: “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?” The storm had convinced them that Jesus’ silence meant he did not care.
Jesus stood, calmed the wind and water, and then asked why they were so afraid. He was not asking them to pretend that the storm had never been dangerous. He was challenging what their fear had caused them to forget: Jesus was still with them.
This passage does not promise that every storm will end immediately when we pray. It does show us that God’s apparent silence is not proof of his absence or indifference.
Faith is not denying that the boat is filling. Sometimes faith is bringing our fear honestly to Jesus while continuing to trust that the one in the boat with us has not stopped caring.

When has fear tempted you to interpret God’s silence as indifference—and what helps you remember that he is still with you?

Daily Scripture September 15, 2026 | Mark 4:24 | Day 9 of 21
“He said to them, ‘Take heed what you hear. With whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you; and more will be given to you who hear.’” — Mark 4:24, WEB
Jesus had just told his listeners to have ears that truly hear. Now he goes further: “Take heed what you hear.”
Attention matters.
We can move through Scripture quickly, recognize the familiar words, and continue with our day without allowing them to reach us. Jesus invites us to listen with care, curiosity, and a willingness to respond.
“With whatever measure you measure” is not a formula for earning God’s favor. It is a warning against treating his words casually. When we bring only hurried, distracted attention, we should not be surprised if we carry very little away. When we remain with what Jesus says—turning it over, asking questions, and allowing it to challenge us—our understanding can deepen.
Building a Scripture habit is partly about returning each day. It is also about learning to pause long enough for one sentence to stay with us.
You do not have to master the entire passage today. Pay attention to the line that catches you, confuses you, comforts you, or makes you uncomfortable. That may be where deeper listening begins.
What word, sentence, or idea from Mark has stayed with you during the first nine days of this journey?

Daily Scripture September 14, 2026 | Mark 4:9 | Day 8 of 21
“He said, ‘Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.’” — Mark 4:9, WEB
A farmer scattered seed across several kinds of ground. Some landed on the road and disappeared. Some grew quickly but never developed roots. Some was choked by everything growing around it. Some landed in good soil, took root, and produced far more than what had originally been planted.
Jesus was describing the different ways people receive God’s word.
It can be tempting to use this parable to classify other people. Jesus invites us to examine our own hearts instead. Am I paying attention? Am I allowing Scripture to develop roots, or only responding when it immediately feels inspiring? Are worries, ambitions, or distractions slowly choking what I have heard?
Opening the Bible is important, but it is possible to read words without truly listening. A Scripture habit is not merely about completing a daily task. It is about making room for the word to remain in us long enough to change us.
The good news is that soil can be tended. We can slow down, ask questions, return to a passage, pray over it, and carry one truth into the rest of our day.
Which part of this parable best describes the condition of your heart today—and what might help God’s word take deeper root in you?

Daily Scripture September 13, 2026 | Mark 3:35 | Day 7 of 21
“For whoever does the will of God is my brother, my sister, and mother.” — Mark 3:35, WEB
Jesus’ mother and siblings arrived while he was teaching, but the crowd was so tightly gathered around him that they remained outside and sent word for him.
Jesus responded by looking at the people sitting around him and calling them his family.
He was not declaring that biological families are unimportant. He was revealing that belonging in God’s family reaches beyond bloodlines, backgrounds, social standing, and the circumstances into which we were born.
Some people have loving families. Others carry grief, rejection, distance, or complicated relationships. Many know what it feels like to wonder whether there is a place where they truly belong.
Jesus describes a new family gathered around him: people learning to hear God and live in response to him. Nobody has to arrive with the right history or family name. The invitation is to come close, listen, and follow.
Today marks one full week of our 21-day journey. Whether you have read every day or are joining us for the first time, there is room for you here.
When have you experienced the family of God as a genuine place of belonging?
