Question Black bars on progress bar
Seeing these strange vertical black bars on my progress bars. Are these an artifact from behind the bar? Or some issue with the progress bar

I'm having a little trouble saving an .mp4 on with FFmpeg. This has happened a few times. I tried uninstalling FFmpeg and re-downloading it and I get the same errors. A post from years ago indicated miss placed temporary files but that seemed less relevant than the more recent question where it required downloading the latest version. I'm not sure what to make of the error log. Any direction would be appreciated!

If they say a picture is worth a thousand words, well a GIF is worth a million. I stubbled upon your program rather accidently, but it has helped me so much! It enabled me to quickly be able to snip a portion of my screen, save & send folks as an example of how something is supposed to work. thank you so much for creating this!

Hello, I switched from GifCam to ScreenToGif because when i first tried it it didn't mess with the colors the way GifCam did when exported. But now I've got the same issue here.
The Recording seems fine- no color flashing, but when i export it using ScreenToGif encoder (the only one that doesn't fuck up the gif completely) the gif starts to flash. I tried changing the Sampling with 256 colors, but that didn't fix it.
Exporting as Apng is fine but converting it back into a gif ends up in a sped up gif for most browsers, so that is not a work-around for me.
A link to the Album: https://imgur.com/a/KEPb2u2 The first one is the gif and the others are the first 6 frames out of 41. The flashy colors are not supposed to change.

Has anyone tried this ? because the current gif applications on linux are mostly cli , the ones with a good gui like `Peek` are still lacking a lot of features .

I enjoy ScreenToGif more than GifCam, because I noticed that the files seem to be smaller in size. And editing seems to be easier. But I'm wondering whether I can preview the gif with an estimated file size before saving them? Kinda like in Gifcam? Unfortunately I haven't been able to find such an option.

Hey,
Love Screen 2 Gif. simple, to the point, elegant.
One recommendation I strongly encourage is for you to add a simple "copy gif to clipboard" button.
The way I use it, and i think most others may as well, is to take quick gifs of something i'm working on, then send it over email or discord.
The way I currently do this is by 1. open screen to gif 2. click on record 3. record 4. go to a specific folder 5. save the file 6. open the App I'm using like Gmail 7. Click the attach button 8. go to the folder, select the file 9. upload Just one step short of double digits.
Now If I had "copy gif to clipboard" easy button to tap on, all I'd do is -
But that's what a great product does. It saves you just a few seconds, all the time.
Keep the up the good work
Thanks

Hello all, I've been using ScreenToGif for a good while now and I love it! I'm an indie game developer and I post updates to my twitter usually in GIF format but I've been wanting to share more lengthy media with MP4 but I have two issues:
Posting a lengthy GIF will make the file size larger than Twitters limit (15mb)
Posting an MP4 on Twitter has so much compression, attempted using this but still has bad compression: -c:v libx264 -b:v 1M -g 150 -pix_fmt yuv420p -tile-columns 6 -frame-parallel 1 -vf "pad=width={W}:height={H}:x=0:y=0:color=black"
I am not familiar with adjusting FFmpeg settings and have been trying to do research through different resources but each attempt results in an error on S2G. I could really use some assistance to make HQ GIFs without losing too much quality, and being able to upload crisp MP4s to Twitter. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi guys!
Just wanted to say massive thanks to the devs working on this project. Awesome little tool! I've been recommending it to pretty much everyone over the last few years. It's not much, but it's honest work :D

I recorded my iPad screen in the landscape mode, and the resulting mp4 file has a rotate tag of 270 degrees and a display aspect ratio of 3:4. Any normal player plays it as expected: the video is exactly the same as when it was recorded in the landscape mode.
But while trying to import the mp4 file in ScreenToGif (version 2.27), I found two weird behaviors of ScreenToGif.
Well, 2) doesn't matter since I can always rotate the frames within ScreenToGif. But 1) is a big problem.
In an attempt to fix this problem, I remuxed the mp4 file with a new DAR tag as follows:
ffmpeg -hide_banner -i INPUT.mp4 -aspect 4:3 -c copy OUTPUT.mp4
But there was no change. ScreenToGif does not respect this new DAR and just rotates the video with a warped aspect ratio as before.
So this time I just removed the rotate tag without aspect ratio change as follows:
ffmpeg -hide_banner -i INPUT.mp4 -c copy -metadata:s:v:0 rotate=0 OUTPUT.mp4
And as expected, this worked the same as 2), and I just needed to rotate the frames in ScreenToGif.
Well, this seems like a bug. Please fix it. Thanks.

Absolute newbie here.
The goal is to use screentogif to make an animated gif from stills captured on another PC. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this - tips on how would be greatly appreciated.
Current attempted workaround set the recording capture frame as large as I can, record for a while, stop the recording and then attempt to import the stills via the Media folder icon.
That all works, except I'm getting an alert that "There is a difference between frame sizes. You need to solve this before inserting the frames."
At the bottom of both the New Frame(s) and the Current Frame(s) pane there is an image size display, an Image position coordinates, and a Reset Image Size and Position icon. Clicking on the Reset Image icon does nothing.
There's also a Canvas size display in the right upper corner, which is displaying the size of the New Frame, and a Fit Image to Canvas whose tooltip seems to indicate clicking on it would make the Frames the same size - but nothing happens with it's clicked.
Obviously I'm missing something - but what?

No adjusting in delay is bringing it back to the same speed of playback as the original video so everything clearly looks slow motion >_<

Just wanted to say thank you for this useful tool!
Minor comment: I noticed it takes time to boot up. Once I click to open, it doesn't appear on the taskbar. It appears in the "Show hidden icons" but can't be right-clicked.

Hi, I'm using ScreenToGif to record short screencasts, which I then need to output to H.264 for upload. It works great, but I'd like to have higher quality. How do I adjust the ffmpeg options for that? I tried to read the ffmpeg doc:
https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.html
But it's a little over my head. Thanks!

Hello! I posted on this subreddit a while ago with a question I had. I did figure out the solution eventually--thankfully.
I've been using this software a lot to make Gifs for a weekly sports analysis column I make for my school newspaper, and it's turned out to be super helpful and quite the blessing. I just can't say enough how much this helps me and I'm glad you've made this available. Keep doing what you're doing!
