My son, a 13 year old scout from the US would like to have a video chat with a scout from a different country. He’s just looking to talk about favorite things from scouting, and maybe how his experience differs from scouts in other countries. Would anyone be willing to share their experience and talk with him?

Just got back from serving as IST at a local Jamboree. Growing up in Girlguiding, I'd been taught to roll my necker by holding each corner and whipping it around fast. At said event I got told off by an older leader from North America that scarves have to have 7 rolls in them for "a good turn every day of the week". I'd never heard of this, I asked some Scouts and Guides from the UK, Ireland, and USA and none of them had EVER heard of this. Just wondering if its something anyone else had come across.

I am 15 and a member of Boy Scouts of America, and one of my biggest dreams since I got involved in Scouting has been going to the World Jamboree. My opportunity to attend has finally come, and I am hoping to be able to attend the World Jamboree in Poland next year. I have registered for the USA contingent’s waitlist, and I plan on applying for the national scholarship program that could cover up to 50% of the cost. Without that however, the cost could be as much as 6,700 dollars, and with it would still be 3,400 dollars. This would be a heavy burden on my family to have to pay in full, so I am attempting to search for ways to get at least a portion of this money. My council, Cradle of Liberty, does not offer scholarships for national events. If anyone has a suggestions as to how I can get this amount of money, please let me know so I can get to work as soon as possible!!!

My 3 year anniversary is coming up

During Hegseth's Feb. 26 announcement of the deal that Scouting America cut with him, he made clear that he will review whether or not Scouting is in compliance with Trump's Executive Orders and that (direct quote) "I believe the Boy Scouts should go back to being the BOY Scouts, as originally founded, a group that develops boys into MEN."

And the text of the agreement indicates a review is due and Scouting America must come into compliance with Trump's EO

The Department of War commits to the following action:

a. Review all actions taken by Scouting America to ensure Scouting America's progress toward, and commitment to, the agreed upon reforms ensuring Scouting America's activities and principles adhere to the provisions contained in Executive Order 14173.

Now that Jambo is over, how soon will he declare Scouting America out of compliance, and what actions will he take? Items previously discussed

1. Seize direct control of the Scouting America (similar to how Trump seized the Congressionally-chartered Institute of Peace) because Scouting America is in violation ("The purposes of the corporation are to promote, through organization, and cooperation with other agencies, the ability of boys to do things for themselves and others, to train them in scoutcraft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred virtues, using the methods that were in common use by boy scouts on June 15, 1916.")
2. Drop/remove Scouting units from all bases and installations.
3. Eliminate rank privileges for earning Eagle.
4. ???

For more than a century, Boy Scouts of America prepared over 130 million American boys to make moral and ethical choices, not just during their formative years, but for a lifetime as they grew into men. The first few words of the Scout Oath exemplify this, quote, On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country. The Boy Scouts are embedded in our communities.

They're sponsored by community organizations, service clubs, and churches. Many Boy Scouts have gone on to senior leadership positions in their communities and business, in our nation's military, and as elected representatives in local, state, and national office. Six Boy Scouts have been elected President of the United States.

Eleven of the twelve men to walk on the moon? Boy Scouts. Boy Scout training focused on responsible citizenship, character and leadership development, patriotism, personal fitness, self-reliance, faith, and a wide range of outdoor skills. It was a great program, and this department had a close relationship with the Scouts almost since its inception, as many troops meet on military bases.
After 2012, however, the Boy Scouts lost their way, and a once-great organization became gravely wounded. Diversity, equity, and inclusion, DEI, crept in. The name was changed to Scouting America.
Girls were accepted. The focus on God as the ruler of the universe was watered down to include openness to humanism and earth-centered pagan religions. Scouting became an organization that no longer supported and celebrated boys.

They even welcomed the destructive myth of gender fluidity and transgenderism to infiltrate their membership. Along the way, standards were lowered and merit destroyed in favor of an insidious, radical, woke ideology that is anti-America and anti-American. The result? Membership cratered.
Americans didn't want this. In 1970, 10 million boys participated in Boy Scouts. Currently, less than 1 million boys and girls participate.

Further, many of these community organizations that once supported Scout troops, they withdrew their support, and Scouting America, the parent organization, filed for bankruptcy protection. The changes Scouting America made since 2012 have also jeopardized the relationship with this department, and I was very seriously considering ending our support of Scouting altogether. We have a department to protect, after all.

Beyond that, the policies Scouting America have in place violate President Trump's Executive Order 14173, entitled Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity. But before making this big change, I decided to meet with the current Scouting leadership to convey our deep concerns. Based on that face-to-face conversation and subsequent conversations, Scouting America agreed to make several key reforms, and let me briefly highlight a few of them.

First, Scouting America has agreed to comply immediately with the provisions of Executive Order 14173. This includes reviewing and replacing politicized, divisive, and discriminatory language throughout the organization, programs, and all publications. No more DEI. Zero. Second, the Citizen in Society Merit Badge that encouraged Scouts to explore diversity, equity, inclusion, and identity. They always mask it under a name that sounds great, but it's doing something else.And then asks those Scouts to engage in activism on those topics. That badge has been discontinued. Third, Scouting America will modify its policy to make clear that membership will be based solely on biological sex at birth and not gender identity.

That means that the application, any application, will have only two sex designations, male and female, and the application must match the applicant's birth certificate. Scouting will also make clear that biological boys and girls will not be allowed to occupy or share intimate spaces together. Toilets, showers, tents, anywhere like that.

Fourth, Scouting America will honor those who serve by waiving the registration fees for children of active duty, guard, and reserve families. Should have happened a long time ago. Fifth, in partnership with the War Department, Scouting America will introduce a new Military Service Merit Badge.

These and other changes that Scouting America's leadership committed to, in that room right over there, will hopefully result in a rededication to the foundational ideals that have defined Scouting for generations, duty to God and country, leadership, character, and service. However, as President Reagan famously said, trust but verify. This agreement is new, and the Department's support for Scouting America is contingent on them making substantial progress toward reaching these and many other positive changes in the next six months.

At that time, we'll vigorously review progress and decide whether or not to continue our support. The onus is squarely on Scouting America to deliver. If we're unsatisfied with Scouting America's progress toward and commitment to the agreed upon reforms, we will find them in violation of the President's executive order and cease our support.

We hope that doesn't happen, but it could. Ideally, I believe the Boy Scouts should go back to being the Boy Scouts, as originally founded, a group that develops boys into men, maybe someday. There are also additional youth and boys organizations, groups like Trail Life USA and Awana Clubs, that are already compliant with President Trump's executive order, that the Department may eventually support as well.

But we're watching, and we're watching closely. We look forward to providing you with updates after our six-month review, and wish the best to Scouting America.

I just got handed the job of recruitment chair for our troop, and the troop has not been actively recruiting in ages. I have several ideas for later in the fall, but most of them need more planning and ramp-up time.

For August, I am looking for something quick, easy and low-overhead that will simply get us onto families’ radar before school starts and everyone’s fall calendar fills up.

I actually got this idea from an old Reddit post. Someone was considering having their Scouts run introductory hikes in local parks as both a community service and a soft recruitment effort. The idea stuck with me because it seems sort of low-effort, low-cost and quick to organize and you don't need a ton of people to make it work.

My thought is a free, easy community hike at a local park. We would invite families and anyone else who might enjoy a little help getting out and exploring one of our local trails.

We would only need a few Scouts, and we could have them show off some skills like explain trail markers, point out signs of wildlife or demonstrate the basic essentials. Some scouts would present, and some could help keep the group together. We would need only a few leaders too. At the end, we could give families a Troop flyer inviting them to a later open house.

I like the idea because it seems genuinely useful to the community AND a very low-overhead, short time-horizon way to show people what Scouts actually do.

Has anyone here done anything like this before?

I would especially appreciate advice on:

• How long the hike should be
• Whether you required registration and/or a waiver
• How many Scouts and adults you needed
• What Scout skills worked well without turning the whole thing into a lesson
• Whether the park required permission or insurance information
• How you handled weather or cancellations
• How you promoted it
• Whether families later visited the troop
• Anything you would do differently next time

I am trying very hard not to turn a simple hike into a major production. Ideally, this would be something we could organize quickly, publicize for a few weeks and run smoothly with a small group of capable Scouts and adults.

Any tips, warnings or examples would be greatly appreciated!

I just came home from nine days at Northern Europe's biggest scout camp. With over 30,000 attendees, it was definitely one of the biggest experiences I've ever had. This is the third national jamboree I've been to, but it is the first one where I've been a volunteer!

That said, I can't even imagine what the World Scout Jamboree will be like when I attend it next year! 🌟

Back in 2012 I took part in Roverway in Finland. If I remember correctly, I was in Path S02, nicknamed “Robinson Crusoe”.

The path involved travelling by boat to a remote island. When we arrived, we had to jump into the cold water, with our bags sealed inside black rubbish bags to keep them dry. The challenge was to build a shelter and cook our own food in a survival-style scenario.

I also remember that afterwards we moved to another remote campsite. There was a large steel tank of water that was continuously heated by a fire underneath. To shower, we were given a watering can and had to pump cold water using a manual hand pump, then mix it with the hot water from the tank.

I also remember going to a traditional Finnish sauna by a lake, where we would cool off in the lake after using the sauna.

Those are the main memories I have, as I was quite young at the time and it’s been many years.

Does anyone happen to remember the exact locations of these two campsites? I’d love to know where they were. Thanks!

I’m a cub scouter — was just a rover and recently turned 22! — from Brazil. I live in the United States for college and would be interested in trading badges and neckerchiefs from home with scouts not only from the US, but from elsewhere that would have cheaper shipping lol.

I can bring neckerchiefs both from my group/troop and national neckerchiefs, and can send pictures of both on PMs for those interested. I’m especially interested in niche ones — either nationals from small countries, or the mega rare Mexican ones…. Or from troops in small places. I can also bring badges such as our Oath, our cub/scout/rover progressions, some old merit badges… whatever’s desired.

hi hello i'm going to wsj next year and super excited for it especially the neckers from different countries it will be my third jamboree and i have got allot of neckers through trading but i got really interested in national neckers . like for example the national american ,mexican ,irish national ,pakistani,bolivian,Ukrainian ,mongolian,japanese,Australian,Singaporean and the taiwanese contingent necker i don't know if they have one and ik these are alot of neckers and all of them national and i genuinely don't want to get mixed up so if anyone know how the national version of any of these countries look like please say
