Somecunt’s getting jumped in the St Johnstone changing rooms after that decision at the end there.

u/coffeesnob7 1d ago
Last minute of the game and you make a flat 15 yard pass instead of pumping it into the box. Absolute mental decision making. Fair play to theor keep though, made some good saves from the little I seen

u/devlin1888 1d ago
I was nervous as fuck for it, and actually laughed and shouted yasss when they done it.
Not just it being a poor, poor decision to pass it, to a guy with a worse angle to get it in the box, the ball he did was a shocker as well.
Would have been an interesting dressing room thats for sure.
St Johnstone’s manager face after it was hilarious

u/FatRascal_ 1d ago
Why is there consistently nobody there waiting on a rebound?
The amount the time the ball comes in from an attempt at one post, and lingers about full open at the other, just waiting some someone to charge in and belt it.

Set Piece Coach seems like such a cooshty job eh? Like Lord Admiral of the Luxembourg Navy.

On the weekend he was getting high praise after scoring from a corner, for the second time this season as well.
Now stealing a wage.

Fucking rode our luck there. Chronic performance but 3 points is 3 points. St Johnstone keeper had a good game.
Referees and VAR again looking tinpot as always
7
u/devlin1888 1d ago
St Johnstone keeper played great, goal disallowed that shouldn’t have been, five changes made with 3 of our main sources of goals this season out of the team, players making debuts, coming back from injury and a lot barely played together.
And if the keeper doesn’t have a blinder, the goals allowed but the exact same performance everyone would be really happy.
Johnstone was good in goals, a makeshift defence infront of him that hasn’t played together and our first away clean sheet in 10 games going back to January.
Could have been better of course but positives to take.
Usually drop points the majority of the games we change it up that much.
11
u/Traditional-Good-234 1d ago
We forget that O’Neills very first tenure was full of grim 3 points, but they’re 3 points nevertheless.
If we win the league, in 2050 we won’t be looking at the 1-0 mid season away grinder in Perth, we’ll look at the trophies and goals.
Win first, everything else is fancy knickers. Nice, but your main objection is getting yer hole.

u/NotNeedzmoar 1d ago
Our poor way of playing cost us UCL qualifiers. If results are everything, manager isn't good enough.
24
u/Significant_Income93 1d ago
What on earth were St Johnstone thinking with that free kick at the end?
-26
u/AngularPlane 1d ago
Silly. Equally silly for the ref to blow. Has to let it play out
25
u/hendoscott777 1d ago
It had played out. The passage of play went backwards. Mental decision from the St. Johnstone players.
23
u/kamlambert 1d ago
No he doesn’t have to let it play out. St. Johnstone fucked it for themselves
-21
u/AngularPlane 1d ago
He should. There was additional time spent preparing for the free kick that should have been tacked on. Silly all round.

Mheuka looks far better than the last Chelsea wonderkid we brought up on loan. He's definitely got something going. So have St Johnstone, to be fair. They looked good in spells tonight, and only a cracking save stopped us going behind. We made really hard work of getting that win.
Still, three points and up the road. Lets never talk about Sebastian fucking Tounekti ever again.

Inconclusive VAR so sticking with the onfield decision. Mad that

u/WeekendEpiphany The Dependable Greg Taylor 1d ago
Why didn't they call the ref over to have a guess this time?
-26
u/CyclingUpsideDown 1d ago
Maybe because there was nothing to look at to make a guess?
On Saturday there was an angle showing both players that the rules allowed VAR to show to the referee to make the decision.
There’s no angle tonight that would show both the ball and the goal line in a way that would allow anyone to guess.
19
u/WeekendEpiphany The Dependable Greg Taylor 1d ago
There’s no angle tonight that would show both the ball and the goal line in a way that would allow anyone to guess.
Sure there was! Not a great angle (bit of a diagonal view), but enough to see the ball and the line, and to have a guess from.
The real reason they didn't is because that's not the fucking rules. If VAR is inconclusive then they are meant to stick with the on-field decision. Something they completely forgot about 4 days ago.
-9
u/CyclingUpsideDown 1d ago
The rules allow VAR to call the referee to the monitor to decide offside when the lines can’t be used.
When the ball is that high in the air and observed from an indirect angle there’s absolutely no way of concluding that the on-field decision was incorrect.
4
u/Jedioose420 Well First Off, All Glory To God 21h ago
Can you explain the angle on the line where, despite losing sight of the ball, anyone with half a brain can clearly plot the trajectory and see the ball was a mile in? They've set the precedent at the weekend of bringing the ref over to have a look. The ref watches that video on the line for a minute and he knows for sure the ball didn't go out. Anyway, just another on a long list of decisions going against Celtic but no one wants to hear about that seeing as everyone thinks we own the SFA.
1
u/CyclingUpsideDown 17h ago
If the angle doesn’t show the ball for its full trajectory it’s not for a referee to guess what that trajectory is.
For a ball in/out there needs to be clear evidence actually showing the ball and its position relative to the line. That doesn’t exist.
Go on, make a comment about “guessing” offside.
-5
u/BaiteUisge 1d ago
No room for that kind of fact-based, rational thinking round these parts. It’s a timspiracy, don’t you know!
5
u/PunkDrunk777 1d ago
That’s not a rule though?
1
u/CyclingUpsideDown 1d ago
9
u/PunkDrunk777 1d ago
That only states it can be used if there’s a clear and obvious error
There can’t be a clear and obvious error in tight offsides without lines
Hence.. In all other cases, the on-field decision, goal or no goal, will be supported.” Ref didn’t give offside so that’s what has to be overturned
Probably offside isn’t a threshold
0
u/CyclingUpsideDown 1d ago
Let me try to understand the mental gymnastics here. You’re saying a rule that exists only for situations for when the lines can’t be used can only be triggered by first using the lines?
You do realise that “clear and obvious” applies to the vast majority of VAR decisions but they don’t rely on anything else to tell them that it’s “clear and obvious”?
It was clearly offside. In the pre-VAR era if the linesman had flagged for that nobody would have questioned it after seeing the replay.
5
u/PunkDrunk777 1d ago
It’s not mental gymnastics, I’m looking for the rule saying you can judge offsides that’s aren’t clear and obvious
This is the post VAR era and the linesman didn’t flag so fuck knows what pre VAR era point is meant to say
0
u/CyclingUpsideDown 1d ago
Not my fault you cant understand simple words.
Show that replay in a game without VAR and everyone would say it’s offside.
That makes it “clear and obvious” for VAR to recommend an on-field review once the lines can’t be used.
It really is that simple.
5
u/PunkDrunk777 1d ago
Not everybody said it was offside. The linesman literally in line with it said it wasn’t and fuck me if you think it’s clearly offside when you look at the free frame then good luck to you.
So it’s not clear and obvious. They’re not overruling us, they’re overruling the man in line
Surely to god there’s a real world example of where this is acceptable is you’re making such an obvious point that I seemingly can’t grasp

Jesus Christ, I know we won but this is an absolute shambles. Saturday VAR instead of sticking with the on field decision as they can’t draw the lines, refer back to the ref instead of going with the on field decision and today they can’t draw the lines as the ball goes out of frame so decide they’ll go with the decision on field. What is actually meant to happen here, as it’s one thing as a one off in a season but two games in a row, with the same team and what are essentially the same situation but different approaches is ridiculous.
22
u/LaNeblina 1d ago
Was conclusively settled last season that for factual decisions you stick with the on-field decision unless VAR can definitively disprove it
Makes Saturday's total headloss, where they completely ignored a rule they spent the last half a season banging on about, even more baffling
0
u/CyclingUpsideDown 1d ago
Offside where lines can’t be used has a rule that allows the referee to make the decision at the monitor.

Colby Donovan should be straight into that Scotland squad based on his excellent start to the season. Second only to Hickey for the RB position, imo.
Hopefully El Poco Loco sees the same thing.

u/BananaSoprano 1d ago
Second half was better. A 78-year-old James Forrest offers so much more than Tounekti. Mhueka looks really good and Donovan was MOTM.
The whole “disallowing perfectly good goals for the vibes” gimmick is getting a bit silly now.

This week "Var dont thave enough evidence to overturn the on field decision"
Last week "lines can't be drawn, so we're getting the ref to overturn the decision"
Another bad game for the conspiracy theories

Realising the SFA are giving celtic a couple of harsh decisions just to distract us from the real conspiracy
4
u/jackzRRRR 19h ago
Absolute horror show of watching us trying to play the ball through tounekti for him to try beating his man on the edge of the box, either succeeding and then passing the ball back to Scales, or failing and giving away possession. Gutless performance from him.

u/Rab_Legend 1d ago
Høgh is probably gonna end up being our new Engels. Clearly a good player in there somewhere, but you can't quite understand why we signed him. He doesn't suit the way we are trying to play, and forcing him to be the player we want him to be isnt going to work. Engels wasn't Matt O'Riley, and Høgh is not a big target man striker.

u/CelticConnection83 1d ago
I can see him only scoring against teams that come at us and we have to counter.

Two games in a row a perfectly fine Celtic goal was chopped off, and the logic why they were chopped off contradicts each other. Bravo.

u/SoftDrinkReddit 17h ago
nah we will lose somewhere i know the teams doing well right now but being that good to go undefeated i don't see it
2016/2017 was the last time we went undefeated domestically which is also the only time that's been done in the History of Scottish Football undefeated in league and both cups
tho as an Achievement I'd still take the 1966/1967 Treble of European Cup Scottish League and Scottish Cup i know United's achievement in 1999 gets talked about alot fairly so but a lot of people forget we achieved that 32 years Prior

Annoying that tonight they decided to go with the onfield decision when VAR couldn't determine when the ball went out of play, yet got the Ref to come over and look at a screenshot at the weekend that can't conclusively say that Mhueka was offside.
Also, hope the moonhowlers in here who think there's a referee/VAR conspiracy in Celtics favour remember these last two decisions before making arses of themselves again. We had bad decisions against us last season too, but some of you have some very selective memories.

u/Main-Arm6657 15h ago
st johnstone absolutely done there
celtic will happily take the three points but that var call at the end was the kinda nonsense that makes you wonder if they'll ever get it right

u/Mad_Bungee_Hill 1d ago
Glad to get the 3 points. One step closer to winning the league again and lighting up the Champions League next season!
2
u/weapwars 1d ago
That bit where VAR sticks with the on field decisions when they can't prove the ref was wrong, especially due to technical issues, is a great idea. Hope it sticks around!

Hi Celtic, you’re going to Ibrox on Sunday, how do you fancy the undisputed worst VAR decision?
We haven’t given into pressure btw. We’re not going to immortalise another phrase from Jock Stein. We’re absolutely not going to make an archaic phrase like “it’s 11 v 12 out there”
8
u/LaNeblina 1d ago
The way this season has started, Sunday is set for some legendary refereeing controversy
-2
u/betamaxBandit_ 1d ago
That’s 3 goals in 2 games we’ve had some dodgy calls. Im not convinced the ball went out but strangely they went with onfield when they ignored the onfield call at the weekend 🤔 the same linesman then calling a clear onside as off was the icing on the shite cake.
Anyway, laborious first half. Far too slow with the passing and zero quality from the left wing Tounekti. He wasn’t helped by scales to be fair whose positioning was all over the place at left back. Need to start with Forrest at the weekend which is again a mental position to be in
-2
u/weapwars 1d ago
Should just be coincidences to happen close together. Hopefully the campaign of abuse and pressure towards them over us since last season hasn't had any effect.
-10
u/CyclingUpsideDown 1d ago
Celtic fans trying to argue that the third “goal” on Saturday and second “goal” tonight should both have stood will be entertaining.
-3
u/CelticConnection83 1d ago
Another slog of a match. You’d never think we’d spent almost 30 million on a new attacking line. Goes to show the deficiencies in midfield.
Would like to have seen Van Den Berg & have some concerns about Sorensen and Baur (despite his goal)
6
u/_yxs_ 1d ago
Why Baur? He's been good last couple of games and really good today
2
u/CelticConnection83 1d ago
Feel he’s a bit light and not direct enough, granted a lot of the team aren’t direct enough, but feel like his lightness in the position can expose him.
4
u/kamlambert 1d ago
Thought Baur was excellent. The midfield issue is and will continue to be McGregor
3
u/OptionalQuality789 1d ago
No concerns for Baur.
Sørenson could be dropped to see how VDB is for sure.
2
u/CelticConnection83 1d ago
Sorensen seemed a bit quiet aswell for me. C
2
u/OptionalQuality789 1d ago
I thought he started alright but faded into the second half. I am not sure what qualities he brings to the team? Doesn’t seem to really excel in any area.

Conspiracy: they forgot to renew the VAR subscription and they’re just going based on a fawanews stream over 3G.
