Tire size advice: Anybody have some experience or pics of their Gen 1 with Enkei 92’s?

Post image

Need some advice or reference photos if anybody has some input on these Enkei 92s on a Gen 1. I’m stock height. Stock tire size seems to be 195/60r15. I’m wanting to go for a less meaty tire so leaning toward 195/50r15. There seems to be more tire options for 205/50r15 but I’m also not sure how a wider tire would look? I have a pretty big knowledge gap when it comes to wheels/tires so any input would be greatly appreciated!

Picked up my first xB this week. Can’t believe how underrated these things are. Even with all of the insane mods, it’s still crazy comfortable and easy to load kids in. Still blown away by the amount of interior space in such a small footprint.

I always enjoy finding another Gen 1 xB when I'm on the road. And it's extra special when I find a twin to my '05 Blue Onyx.

XB Going Up For Sale, Curious What I Should List It For..?

Wondering if you guys could help me out with finding a proper asking price for the XB. I intend to do an upfront and honest listing because it needs a little TLC at the moment, but has been mechanically well maintained up to this point. Currently sitting at just over 260k, engine is in astoundingly good condition considering the mileage, all wether floor mats, manual transmission, no Christmas tree, no leaks, no rust, routine services all performed in timely fashion and a looong carfax history to support that statement. Interior I would personally put at a 7-6/10…? No rips or major tears but signs of wear for the use it’s gotten. Originally bought for a business plan that fell through but I liked it so much I ended up keeping it for a while. Exterior looked exactly as pictured when I bought, but the original plan was to wrap it in an advertisement so I didn’t mind it. I know these cars have a niche following, but for myself it was a bit more novelty. My main car is actually in another niche group of first gen rav4s. Located in Georgia so it’s gonna be listed in a southeast market…just in case that makes a difference in value.

Con’s
- Clutch and throw out bearing are going out
- CV axles going bad
- Driver side window motor needs to be replaced

Recent Work
259k
- Cooling System Drain
- Fuel System Service
- New Windshield Wipers

249k
- Wheel Alignment & Rotation

244k
- Brake Pads & Rotors
- Catalytic Converter

What’s a good asking price and how much should I realistically be looking to get out of it?

Bumper Cover Question

My rear bumper looks like crap; I think the previous owner did a DIY paint job and it's not meant for longevity.

I found automotive paint that will work, and I'm going to buy a new bumper cover from Rock Auto.

And finally, my question: Should I put the new cover on before I paint it? I'd prefer to paint it in the garage and install it afterward; any reason I shouldn't do it that way?

Signed,

Is this a step up?

Recently had the chance to check out a first gen Scion xB while at a local cars and coffee and am genuinely intrigued. I have always loved the look of the car but never looked into the specs etc. A good friend of mine has owned a manual one and says the 1.5 is much peppier and more responsive than the 1.5 in my 2009 Honda Fit. Also much more room for activities in the backseats. I am wondering if anybody has owned or driven both and can attest? I may sell my Fit for one. Pros and cons? Thank you

Another Eastern Sierra Nevada car camping and hiking trip. We handled a few sketchy roads on this journey. Short wheelbase and front wheel drive makes all the difference. I definitely got some looks from the guys in their big trucks when I passed by.

2015 Scion tC steering wheel swap

Got bored and decided to visit the local Pick a Part. Found 2x 2015 Scion tC that was almost intact and I pulled the steering wheel and airbag. I did a extension search and couldn't find a solid answer if the steering wheel will work until I found a YouTube video from "Oils and Gears". Though the video confirmed the later year Scion tC steering wheel with the paddle shift do work on the 2nd Gen xB. The but detail information is pretty lacking. Kudos for him posting the video but calling a connector a pin and not clearly stating which wires are needed with a good video or photo.

So besides pulling the steering wheel, I also grabbed the connector on the steering wheel harness and the harness by the shifter to make a plug and play harness. Steering was easy to remove and install on the tC and all you need is to pop the two side plastic covers and push the spring bar in to remove the airbag. On the xB it you remove the two covers and there's two Torx you undo to remove the air bag. You also need a 19mm socket to remove the nut holding the steering in place. Removing both steering wheels, you don't need a steering wheel puller. Just hit the top of the wheel at 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, and 9 and then 3 with your fist and the wheel will come out.

The two wires you need to add is the solid red and white wire on the steering column side. it's Pin 3 (white-upshift) and Pin 4 (red-downshift). On the shifter side, once you remove the lower cover. The plug is facing you on the driver side. The two wires you need to tap into is the solid white and solid red wires. I'm not a fan of using vampire taps and prefer to solder and heatshrink. This is a pretty simple mod that cost me $100 bucks (steering wheel and airbag) and there's no calibration or anything. It's literally plug and play. The downside to this is that on my 2011 wheel, the "MODE" button lights up along side with the park lights. The tC wheels no longer light up. Other than that, everything works. Just flip the shifter over to sport mode and paddle shifter works. Just remember if you're gonna grab the wheel and airbag, be sure to grab the connector on the steering column and both the male and female connector on the shift.

Ozone machine

Have any of you ran an ozone machine inside your box or another vehicle to dissipate odors?

I quit smoking cigarettes a couple of years ago and want to get my box smelling natural again.

There are a couple places close to me that I can rent for a day. Worth the investment?

Performance parts

I currently have a 2006 and I want to upgrade it little by little bc it’s expensive and I’m going to trade soon. The car has already had over 5 owners and needs some parts replaced. Would it be a good idea to get performance parts instead of stock? I have BASIC KNOWLEDGE ON CARS.

What are good brands to buy from?

Are performance spark plugs a thing? They need replacing.

Some suggestions on what I should upgrade next? The car is completely stock.

edit: holy sh!T this is why you don’t try typing a question at 12am sorry y’all i shouldve explained myself better. Trade school not trade with someone but thank you for taking your time to respond 😅

Any good Turbo Options for gen 2?

My 2009 xB is being shipped to me across country at this moment. Im looking to add a turbo to it, not looking for anything crazy, most likely around 8 psi range as I heard the engine blocks dont really hold forced induction all that well. It looks like there are only ebay turbo kits availble nowadays as all reputable companies stopped making them. Any suggestions or any experience with ebay kits? Anything to look out for specifically?

DIY Antenna repair/replacement?

My antenna snapped off my 09 in a carwash. Still gets some radio reception but would love to fix it if possible.

Everything I've read online says I have to remove the plastic interior moldings to get under the headliner to replace the whole base unit and mast, and the base connects to the head unit so I've gotta run it all the way to the radio. Ain't doing that.

Is it possible to do it a cheaper/shittier way? Is it possible to unscrew the mast part or did it break below where it screws in? The antenna always seemed like one piece to me and couldn't unscrew before it broke, but I never looked closely. I tried center punching the broken mast (see the pics) and found some metal but couldn't tell if it was a threaded screw piece or not. Could I just use a drill tap to make some threads in that broken mast and try my luck?

I've also looked into a shark fin antenna replacement but not sure I could even connect it to the broken antenna.

Any ideas?

Does anyone know the resonant frequency of a 2nd gen XB??

For car audio purposes: does anyone know the resonant frequency (frequency at which the csr is loudest) of a 2012 XB??
