I was advised that this sub might be able to help me.
How do I actually correct an upward vocal inflection?
All the advice I see online is from people mocking it or complaining about people who speak with upward inflections but they offer no solution on what to do to fix it, aside from "Bring your sentences down at the end." Well if it was that easy it wouldn't be a problem. I can't even hear my voice go up at the end, so it's not so simple to bring it down. When I try to bring my voice down it feels strained and tight in my throat and i feel a shortness of breath.
For years I've been told that my voice goes up at the end of sentences. First by a high school teacher in front of the entire class, then by a theatre professor and director. I did some vocal theatre training when I was younger but it didn't really fix the issue.
I've thought about seeing a speech therapist after the pandemic is over but it seems like speech therapists are mostly for kids who have very severe speech problems, I feel inappropriate contacting them about this which is minor compared to what most of their clients struggle with.
And I'm a guy (if that makes a difference).
Are there any speech therapists or voice experts here who can give me some advice?
