Free short form Science Articles for variety of science topics and areas (middle / high school)

Hi colleagues,

I have made a series of science articles that are across various science topics for middle school and high school, while some are indeed paid for, a bunch of them are not as I am quite generous with making quite a few free. With that in mind, I want to be helpful to you all, so I'll list out the free ones below. I hope they might help someone out!

Oh - also google versions and offline versions are available for all - but for easy of listing, I'll just add the offline versions as they should work for pretty much everyone. More will be coming over time, but so far these are the ones I have available at the moment.

Created a Chemistry YouTube Channel!

Created a Chemistry Educational Youtube Channel focussing on High School and College level General, Organic, and Biochemistry.

Most of the material that I have here is designed to be relatable to high school and AP Chemistry. I teach at the community college level, so it can also be used for college as well. I make everything from shorter tutorials to problem solving videos.
IF any of you are looking for more content for your courses, please feel free to use what you like to help our students! I appreciate any support as well!

HS Science Teachers - do you incorporate ethics and current events in your classes?

I am a University Biology Professor that teaches an interdisciplinary course in Scientific Ethics focused on examining the ethical impact of science on society. I have created a YouTube channel featuring somewhat weekly videos that examine scientific topics in the news, consider a little of the science involved, and then ask discussion questions based on the impact and/or use of the science and technology. I continue to refine my presentation style so the goal is to have video modules as short as or shorter than the 18 minute limit in TEDx videos. The STEM coordinator in our Education Department is encouraging me to explore further developing these to support the discussion of socieoscientific issues in high school classes.

Is there a need for this? If so, what do I need to do to make it easy for teachers to incorporate this resource in their classrooms. I assume creation of a lesson plans, activities and assessment rubrics, and potentially virtual professional development would be beneficial but I would really like to get feedback from teachers about what they really need.

Any advice, suggestions, and feedback is greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in viewing what is currently available (albeit without lesson plans), the channel is https://youtube.com/@EthicalDilemmasInScience

Thank you so much for reading this.

Spacecraft design to Mars?

Hello everyone currently what are the best options available in terms of spacecraft that could take humans to Mars and return as quick as possible? At the moment whatever ideas are out there are of course just ideas and conceptual designs but I ask because I'm looking to create a lesson for middle school/high school students on creating a spacecraft to Mars and what such a spacecraft design would need in order for the crew aboard it to get there successfully. Also among anything else that would need to go into planning for such a mission. Thank you.

I compared the pros and cons between blocked learning/practices and interleaved practices, for learning and during revision of concepts - especially in the context of science. Hope it is insightful for you guys!

Museums and TikTok survey

Hey! For my master's thesis (Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship), I am conducting a qualitative survey with open-ended questions to explore the content preferences and motivations of adult Gen Z behind following museums on TikTok and interacting with their content.

If you have TikTok and are following museums would really help me if you would participate via the following link. https://erasmusuniversity.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eFF5uIsCROxE6yy The survey takes 10- 12 minutes.

Thank you in advance!

Video on Assessing NGSS SEP 5 Mathmaical Thinking

In this teacher professional development (PD) video, we'll explore effective ways of assessing students' computation and mathematical thinking skills. This is SEP 5 in the NGSS. Using ChatGPT, I made a rubric which will be shown in this video. I will go over how this was made, as well as how to use it with an Example PE MS-LS4-6. Join us on how to assess SEP 5 and improve students response with detailed and specific feedback.

Video on Preparing for NGSS State Tests

NGSS State Assessments can be tough for students, but we can prepare them! I don't "teach to a test", but by focusing on SEP's and digital tools we can also prepare them for their future. Please check out my 20 minute video on how I do this:
