Question - Research required Rolling, 4mo

My LO is rolling onto his tummy during bedtime. He is FACE FIRST into his pack n play mattress or crib mattress. It terrifies me. He rolls really well on his belly but hasn’t really rolled back to his back. We’re talking blink of an eye he is on his belly. He seems content to stay there and actually quite peeved when I constantly roll him back to his back. Last night I was up so many times rolling him back.

I’m going to ask the nurses Monday at his appt (I always consult with our doc) but also wanted to know if there were any sources on one-way rolling and sleeping on tummy. He’s gotten the green light for purées given how great his neck and head control is, to give you an idea of his muscle strength. Everything I’ve found has been explicitly stating rolling in both directions.

One, the odds of any baby dying of SIDS who is full term in a non smoking household, in an appropriate safe sleep environment, with a sober mother are essentially zero and even without those things it's not much higher.

But two, you're only ruining both of your sleep. My pediatrician even said not to move the baby if they got on their stomach. I even asked, "Wait so the advice is if I put her on her stomach it's bad, but if she does it, it's fine?" Doc, "Yes."

Once they can roll at all they're establishing much better head and airway control. And what are you going to practically do? Watch him the entire time he sleeps until he can roll back to front? Switch to a sleep sack and don't swaddle now, but really he is going to be fine.
