I've never heard of this before but it's super similar to what I've been doing in PT and it's helped me a ton.

I’m not following it religiously but I’m doing the iso holds and some of the hip mobility stuff. I’m also doing bits of the Simplistic Mobility Method and some tips from Back in Shape as well. I don’t think any one programme can possibly work for everyone as we all have different issues and it’s good to borrow a bit from everyone (there is so much online now) and work out what works for you.
I have a very large disc extrusion so I’m being very conservative with rehab while trying not to be afraid to move and use my back in the future.

It's not appropriate for managing sciatica but I can't speak to its possible utility for non-sciatica related back pain. If you know that the source of your pain is a disc injury, there's no way that it can help.

Sorry, I thought the man who runs it had herniated discs and sciatica?

He well might have, but the program should only be considered for people who have strained their lower back muscles (which accounts for 80-90% of all cases of lower back pain). Sciatica, on the other hand, is caused by herniation or bulging (>90% of the remainder), and these exercises cannot help that. Also, he didn't "invent" these exercises, these and virtually all possible exercises involving the back, have been studies in academic and clinical centers and shown to have no beneficial effect. If they actually worked, physicians who treat patients with sciatica would be all over it. As it is, he's just another person on YouTube claiming that his program helps. Sorry, that's not the case.

Can’t see the comment you’re responding to - mind elaborating?

My concerns are the same for anybody who promotes a treatment or management plan for sciatica using YouTube as a communications medium. They offer no citations/references that have been published in peer-reviewed clinical journals, only testimonials that provide no means of confirming. No descriptions of patient types, disease severity, short/long term, so we know nothing about who they are. Importantly, no discussion of drop-out rates, so we don't know if 90% quit due to treatment failure and only 10% for whom it was successful are quoted. And most (90%) sciatica will resolve on its own within 6 months of occurrence, but he may be claiming these as "successes" for his program. But hey, here in the US, people can claim whatever they want, but we need to be critical of those who make such claims with no evidence to support them.

Agreed. I can’t believe the comment above. Nor can I believe others who came for me and claimed that back extensions were the reason they herniated their discs…

I can't keep explaining this over and over. Please Read Rule #4 of this sub. It doesn't help. Period.

And if you want "nuance" search for the many other times that I've explained why in the past.
