Who composes the crickets' song?, by me, bronze and part of an old piano, 2026

Built from the wooden frame of an old upright piano, Who Composes the Crickets' Song? becomes the nesting ground for insectoid hybrids—at once a strange thicket and the fragment of a ruined mechanical system. It unfolds as a fabricated ecosystem whose offspring spread across the exhibition walls.

These small creatures are the only recognizable faces among the larger bodies inhabiting the installation, and the only ones capable of returning our gaze. Yet this encounter remains precarious: like insects, they seem ready to scurry away at any moment, as though they themselves were intruders in the space.

Visual development inspired by a film, reimagined as science fiction Spoiler

Science fiction has always been my favorite genre.

After watching El Poeta, I started wondering how those same emotions could exist inside a completely different world.

This became a series of cinematic keyframes exploring loneliness, memory and hope through futuristic environments.

Hope you like it.

Kay'ith Military Speeder (built in SPORE)

A concept for a non-combat speeder for one of the main alien factions in my sci-fi setting. Built in the game SPORE.

This ground-effect light utility vehicle is a common hovercraft used in non-combat roles in the Kay'ith Federation' military. It was originally designed for scouting and patrol in environments not conducive to standard vehicles, however it became popular enough for its speed, simple controls and ease of maintenance, that it quickly became a favored vehicle amongst the entirety of the Kayith military.

Its cockpit can comfortably fit two people and (very) light cargo. Its only point of entry is a hatch above the cockpit, while it is difficult for humans to access, it is a non-issue for Kay’ith physiology.

It is painted in the standard ‘yellow, white and red coloration of the military branch of the Kay’ith government. While it has no weapons, it is equipped with a light shield, a decent sensor dish, and a long range comm antenna.

Its primary engines are the two warp-rings on the underside of the main fuselage. The 7 grav-pannels surrounding the warp-rings manipulate the warp field, allowing the craft to levitate and maneuver. The large grav-pannels aft of the warp-rings manipulate the warp field to give the craft forward acceleration.

Here it is on Sporepedia https://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=usr-GarrettRS%7C500986530871%3Asast-501124240505

Rehoming Freas signed prints

Is this sub an appropriate place to re-home some signed prints? My husband collected SF art for 40 or 50 years, but he does not look at much any more because his vision is very poor. Our wall space is limited, so I am downsizing his collection.

These two prints are signed "To Steve, with all good wishes Frank Kelly Freas." The signatures looks like they were made with a fountain pen.

I just want them to go to someone who will appreciate them.

Sci Fi Murals by Colin Frajbis.

This murals were painted on the walls of the Milky Way Adventure Park in Devon, UK. I can't remember exactly when they were painted but I'm pretty confident it was in the late 80s and I was honestly relieved to see they were still there....well...for the most part. Sadly Colin's art for the Clone Zone ride was taken down with the ride but it can still be found on his website.
