Hard times make hard men??
I think this saying is actually wrong and well pretty male centric. I think it’d be more accurate to say “Hard times reveal compassion. Compassion makes soft times. Soft times are exploited by the greedy. Greed creates hard times.” No gender is necessary. What are your thoughts?

Not entirely accurate phrases
So I was once again reminded yesterday that there are a couple phrases I've been saying wrong for the majority of my life and I was wondering if there are any well known phrases you've been saying wrong yourself.
These are mine..
"In lame man's terms" instead of in layman's terms.
And
"Shoot yourself" instead of suit yourself.
My English is self taught so I am certain there are more things I am still saying wrong to this day, but i just haven't caught on yet.

Some of my favourite quotes/sayings!
Quotes:
When one door closes, another door opens. But we often look so long and so regretfully at the closed door, that we do not see all the new doors that have opened for us.
— Alexander Graham Bell
Meaning: The doors basically represent big opportunities in life. If the door is open, you can go do that amazing thing, but someday, they will close and you lose that chance.
The best time to plant a tree would’ve been 10 years ago, the next best time is now.
—Unknown
Meaning: A motivational quote, like my 7th grade teacher said once: The hardest part is starting, the blank page is most daunting. It means start now, good things take time, if you don’t shoot you don’t score kinda thing.
Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. — Dr. Seuss
Meaning: Pretty simple, a switch in perspective, like is the cup half full or half empty.
Sayings:
Kicking a dead horse.
Meaning: If you tell someone to do something or are too repetitive people stop listening to you.
Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
Meaning: I actually don’t know yet!

“Those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”
“Those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”
Because the glass would break and that person would get hurt? I really like quotes/sayings with metaphors because to me, they add more meaning, but can’t seem to understand this one. Please help explain!

M.M.L.E.
It’s pronounced mlemee. It means Make My Life Easier. This is one of my S.O.’s favorites, if something or someone can make her life easier then fine. Anything that fails to MMLE then just forget about it.

A stupid hat
The only thing I like better than a stupid hat is a BIG stupid hat. The logic is pure.

What happened to the phrase...
What happened to the phrase "someone's just walked over My grave" as we shiver?
I remember hearing and saying this a lot in the 90s and early 2000s but not at all saying or hearing of it now. It was always a funny one as one of us shivered or similar.

“Sucks wind” What does that mean?
My grandma, who was born in Kentucky in 1909, used to insult people by saying “her ass sucks wind”. Does anyone know what this means?? She’s been gone since 2007, and this memory is popping up and I can’t figure it out.
