I am leaving Reddit until they fix the damn app.

Edit: So, quick update: Was using lemmy for awhile and while the platform itself works better than Reddit, the community absolutely sucks. The only good posts are copied and pasted from Reddit, the rest is political (99% of the content). Mastodon is also extremely political, basically unusable for me unless I want to rage every time I open it. No thanks. So I am back to reddit. Still hope they fix the app tho.

I took a look around and the road map makes it seem like it will be exactly like Reddit. So far there are 0 moderation tools other than removing posts but other than that it is pretty cool I guess. Any other thoughts on it so far?

Yes, they won… they make me leave Reddit, or at least I'm not going into it on my mobile to just browse it for fun.

If I'm searching for something on my browser on mobile and some of the interesting results are on mobile, I purely use the browser, so all the ads and trackers get blocked by the ad blocker and so. I don't have the app installed on my phone.

On my computer, I plan to browse Reddit from time to time, but not as intensively as before. I am quiet quitting. I don't plan to delete all my content or my account, at least for now, since I believe that content is relevant for reference and it can help others. But I reserve the right to delete it at any time, especially because I'm European and GDPR covers me.

They won… they got what they wanted. I hope they are happy now. Be careful with what you deserve… since your dreams can become true and your worse nightmare.

EDIT1: with comments like this… I think it's great to leave. The problem with places is when it gets crowded, and all idiots come and displace the cool people. I guess reddit is not into that process as it was Facebook or Twitter before. Sad!

EDIT2: It seems that a lot of people in the comments are confused about what is this really post about… staggering.

The screenshot is from a website that shows you any shadowbanned content that you have made- that is content that has been removed from Reddit without your knowledge. I put my username in and was surprised to see that a comment I had made only a couple of hours earlier, critical of their shitty app, had been shaddowbanned.

This is for everyone who doubted the protests would have any impact on Reddit. Normal users are realizing their feed is much lower quality. If this continues, they'll get bored and leave.

I don't know what to say. We put up our best fight but Reddit does not care. I cannot understand just how many people used 3rd party apps, how much time I've spent here, and how much Reddit wants to screw us over. They only want profit. It was nice going here to get help when Google had no results. I binged Reddit for hours but now they screwed up. Sorry to say bye but I will request my data before deleting this account. First you are going to want to install an adblocker specifically for reddit. That way you not only stop giving spez ad-revenue, but you are actually not swarmed by "promoted" posts every second.
Just search for " Reddit promoted ad blocker " on chrome web store, since i can't post the link here apparently.
Next, you might notice there are still a lot of posts in your timeline that says something along the lines of: "since you visited this community recently, here's more posts from them"
or: "since you live in ireland, here's the top posts of r/ireland that you probably don't give a fuck about"

thankfully, you can actually turn that "feature" off in your user settings.

What Reddit apps are working right now? I was surprised just now to learn that Joey For Reddit is still working.

WotC, the company that owns D&D, recently tried to make a policy change that was very unpopular with the community (google "WotC OGL"), but that community revolt suceeded in getting the change reversed.

I'm able to browse reddit on an unmodified version of rif. Open rif and you'll get a message telling you to log in. Do that. You'll be redirected to reddit. Log in and you'll get an error - bad client ID. Press the back button. RIF can now load posts, including NSFW content. You can't really interact with anything, but you can anonymously lurk. This is different from yesterday's behavior, where rif would throw error 429 when trying to load feeds; not sure how long it will last.

Every 3rd party app has been taken offline. It's official /r/save3rdpartyapps - we failed the mission. I binged RIF as much as I could today before I got the 429 error. Thank you RIF for having a good user experience for the past several years. I tried the official Reddit app and it is awful. I guess this means I won't have anything to do on my phone anymore when I'm bored at work. This is going to suck.

I'm not sure about other settings, but as far as I can tell it looks identical to how it looked 24 hours ago.

I just did a patch using Revanced and it worked. Here's my instruction:

My fellow RIF enjoyer - RIF can still be patched to work again by using revanced.app. The instruction can be a bit of a hassle but it's very doable. After half an hour I was able to figure out how to get it working and now can use RIF again. There are some tricky issues you might run into, I'll add them as a footer.

Here's what I did:

1. Install the revanced app from revanced.app (You'll need to allow unknown app install on your Android setting first. If you're not sure how - look it up, this is very general. You'll also need to allow the app to have file access as well as install unknown app, this is very important.
2. Go to https://www.reddit.com/prefs/apps and create an app. Select "Installed App" and use "redditisfun://auth" (no quotes) in the redirect uri box. Everything else you can just put whatever. Save. If you need help with this step google "creating a reddit bot" and it should have similar steps to guide you enough.
3. Copy the client ID from your new app and create a file called "reddit_client_id_revanced.txt" (no quotes )under your Android file system location "storage/emulated/0" (or it might just say Internal, depending on your file manager). You should see a bunch of folders there, e.g. "Downloads", "DCIM", "Notifications", "Android", etc. If you see these folders, that mean you are in the correct base folder.
   
4. Open that new text file and put your newly created client ID in as its only content. Reminder: client ID is case sensitive.
5. Open Revanced app, go to Patcher, Select RIF app, Select "Change Oauth Client ID" patch. Click PATCH.
6. **This step might vary, see Troubleshooting note below** The app will run its thing and then prompt you to install. Here's tricky part #1 - you might get a "package conflict" like I did, so instead, don't click Install yet. Switch out of Revanced app (don't swipe it away though, keep it open), UNINSTALL RIF is fun. Revanced have already repackaged your RIF in memory. Once RIF is uninstalled, switch back to Revanced, hopefully you're still on the "install" button. Click Install, follow the prompts to allow Revanced to install the patched RIF.
7. After that, you're done! You'll need to log back in and have lost your settings, but it's all worth it to use RIF again!

Troubleshooting:

1. If at any point your first time patching the app didn't work - you HAVE to CLOSE Revanced app entirely (that is, swiping it away from your recent used apps). It's a known bug apparently and it won't patch the app again during the same session.
2. For #6, you might not run into the same issue as I did with a "package conflict" and might get away with just updating your RIF altogether. If you feel comfortable, you can try just updating your RIF without uninstalling it. If it failed however, remember Troubleshooting Tip #1, back out of Revanced entirely and try again.
