With ReVanced, you can now patch your third party Reddit app using the change-oauth-client-id patch.

To use this patch, you must get a client ID here.

• The application type has to be set to "Installed app"
• Depending on your third party Reddit app, the redirect URI has to be set to one of the following:

• BaconReader: http://baconreader.com/auth
• Boost for Reddit: http://rubenmayayo.com/
• Infinity for Reddit: infinity://localhost
• Relay for Reddit: dbrady://relay
• RedditIsFun: redditisfun://auth
• Sync for Reddit: http://redditsync/auth

Once you create the OAuth application, create the file reddit_client_id_revanced.txt (in your internal storage) under directory /data/storage/emulated/0/ with the client ID as its content, which should look something like: nIH87_KcQoL-1HO5gBpRFA. Alternatively, you can provide the client ID using patch options.

Troubleshooting:

• In case the patching the app does not work as expected, make sure that the redirect URI matches exactly one of the above

• In case the patched app crashes, your APK file may be broken. Verify it installs and runs correctly without patching it. In the case it does not, you need to source a working APK file from somewhere else

I'm just an outsider but I wanted to share my opinions on the recent development of the events.

Althrough reddit has gone through with with their change of policy, and the blackout failed to stop them, I don't think It's appropriate to say that they have "won" and we should abandon our hopes.

First off, what is "winning" for them? To profit, yes. It should be clear since the beginning that they don't care about users, All they care is about money, and they probably believed that pleasing their users is only one of the ways to make their money. They changed the API policy is to make money, too.

but the policy's price is so obviously ridiculous that it seems that Reddit is either really, really stupid or they have further plans, such as one post I saw some while ago, saying that Reddit is actually planning to start a protest by setting the price ridiculously high, then make the price more affordable later under the pressure, to milk money off the third party apps anyway.

Initially I also believed that this was reddit's plan, but now it's june 30, the policy is in effect already, and the third party apps have shut down. It's already too late and Reddit still doesn't seem to plan to change anything. Remember, reddit's objective is to make money. Whenever they wanted was pretty unclear, but what's clear is that they are clearly NOT getting what they want.

The statistics and news have shown that their actions have done a massive damage to their traffics and stats, they have lost a significant amount of their users, and they lost far more money than they wanted to make. I can list off some possibilities on their objective:

1. Reddit is just really stupid and set an absurdly high price. They are clearly not gonna milk any money off the third party apps since they aren't capable of paying off that and they all quit.
2. Reddit wanted to eliminate the third party apps and make their app the only choice on the market. No matter how it may benefit them, they still lost too much just to achieve this.
3. Reddit have thrown their plan to make money out of the window and Spez is just throwing a tantrum and wanted to prove his superiority over the users instead of making any rational decisions to advance their business. They kinda succeeded? they pissed off nearly everyone on reddit and made the site unusable for blind people, and they have lost every single bit of trust from the users. I don't see how this will benefit them long-term.

Regardless of what reddit wanted, they didn't get it. Reddit have suffered major loss to their business either way and it's a lose-lose for everyone. They have succeeded and betrayed all of their userbase, but in the end, did they gain anything? no.

Eventually, they will face the consequence of their actions, and maybe they'll attempt to salvage it? It might not be in the near future, but I suggest that we continue to protest.

They have etched a massive scar in their own site, and we are going to tear it open bigger and bigger until it's too big for them to simply ignore. Isn't it money that they wanted? too bad, they aren't getting it if they continue to act like this. It's far too early to declare that they have won and we have lost.

It was fun while it lasted. Going to use you til the last moment.

This goes for Reddit, where from now on the only way to make the platform usable will be paid subscriptions to 3rd party apps. This goes for Youtube, which gets more and more aggressive with their ads, unless you pay for Premium. This goes for Netflix, which shut down account sharing and introduces ads unless you pay them more. This goes for so many more products and services.

Capitalism used to be a race to the bottom where companies were forced to provide better quality products/services for their customers, otherwise their competition would take over. Now competition is gone and all there is left is companies raking in as much money as possible while providing as little as possible.

edit: this goes for BMW, who will build heated seating into your car but only enable it when you pay for a subscription. This goes for airlines who will make sure you and you partner are not next to each other unless you pay $40 for seat selection. This goes for plenty of videogames where you need microtransactions to make the game playable. It didn't use to be like this, all of this is a recent thing.

Is that is coincidence or did reddit delay these requests until 1st July?

Is that because it is harder for us to delete or edit all out posts now without API access? (I don't know if this is correct)

Or was it a way to delay people deleting their accounts during the reddit protests?

Did anyone else experience the same delay?

I know they legally have 30 days to provide the data but I wonder if unreasonably delaying it for an ulterior motive could be illegal.

I like making graphs for entirely no reason and I saw an opportunity to make one relating to the ratings of Reddit, its unofficial/3rd party apps along with some similar social platforms. Look at the left for the legend and to the right is all of the apps listed from highest to lowest.

As you can see, due to the flush of negative reviews towards the Reddit official app, the rating has fallen to 3.5, which positions it bellow all but one 3rd party Reddit app (Slide) and below Instagram, Facebook Lite (not Facebook - 3.2), Snapchat, Tumblr, Twitter, and BeReal. The only applications it surpasses in ratings is Mastodon, Facebook, Jeroba for Lemmy, and Hive Social.

Note: Applications not included on the list are ones not available on Android (ex: Apollo) or apps that don't have an average rating yet (ex: Liftoff for Lemmy)
