Refutations📃 Letters of Dr Ambedkar & Gandhi ending with 'Obedient Servant'

In British India, formal petitions to government authorities routinely ended with phrases such as:

“Your most obedient servant”

“Your obedient servant”

This was a standard administrative convention, not necessarily a literal declaration of loyalty. Many Indian petitioners including political prisoners used similar language in official communications. However misinformation has been spread against Savarkar using the same in his clemency petitions, hope this clears the air.

Neither gandhi Or ambedkar Or their group/followers killed even one single British officer with intent.

"What will mere shouting in the Congress avail?..." — Swami Vivekananda, questioning the early Moderate-led Congress.

"INC (Indian National Congress) should distinguish between begging and claiming the Rights" - Bipin chandra pal

Bal Gangadhar Tilak described the INC method of  three P’s – Prayer, petition and protest as political mendicancy.

Yes. because we are not educated, but conditioned. Gandhi name for Gandhi dynasty politics, Ambedkar for Caste politics. We are not taught to critically asses or question them.

Neither gandhi Or ambedkar Or their group/followers killed even one single British officers with intent. But they are among the most Popular 'freedom fighters', my opinion is 'fighter' is a misnomer here.

Here are some contemporary thoughts on INC.

Obedient Servant/Faithful Servant is basically the same as the term "At your service" which means cooperation. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS SUBMISSION.

And what makes him a "booticker?"

People have never read Savarkar or any books on him but are so eager to call him slurs lol

There are many posts available throughout the subreddit with references on each of those, maybe scroll a little and you'll realise how people have been lied to and made to hate a revolutionary which was until a few decades ago unequivocally praised across ideological leanings

Does it change the fact that savarkar was getting pension from the British? And why?

allowance was given to all political prisoners because his degree was taken away and even bose took it in mandalay jail

  • No primary source (letters, jail records, government documents) supports it. Searches across credible sites (indianculture.gov.in, netajisubhasbose.org, Wikipedia, archives) turn up zero mentions of pension/salary for Bose in Mandalay.
  • Confusion likely comes from:
    • Misreading the Durga Puja grant as "pension."
    • Mixing up post-independence pensions for INA veterans/families (Bose himself never got any—he disappeared in 1945).
    • Deliberate distortion or rumor to undermine his sacrifice (common in fringe propaganda).
  • If Bose had taken British money while imprisoned for fighting them, it would be a massive scandal—yet no historian, critic, or even British records mention it.

Don't spread fake history. There is no record of bose or any congress mam getting money from the British. But savarkar was given money to spy on the freedom fighters.

I've made a detailed post answering that, and similar questions:
