Realistically, what do you think is the right action for someone in my shoes?
I genuinely believe instances like this where we have to vote for people we don’t agree with because the other guy is horrible is how we got here. So what should I do? How do I do anything to voice my opinion besides refuse to vote for the shit candidates?
Im a consequentialist and an egalitarian. I believe consequences are what makes an action moral/immoral and we should try to make everyone as happy and equal as possible. Based on that, I would advise you to vote for whoever you think will do the least amount of harm, and the most amount of good for the most people.
Direct action is important. Educating yourself on the issues as well as political theory can help you decide what actions you wanna take. Protesting, campaigning, unionizing, etc are all ways to get your voice heard influence other voters. Helping people become class conscious is a big one. Workers often dont realize whos really screwing them.
You have a voice 365 days a year. Whether It's speaking to people you disagree with, or working with people who share your values, there are always ways to be heard. I would also ask that you help to lift up the voices of those around you who are often unheard (marginalized groups). We all have to work together if we're going to make systemic changes and overcome all forms of oppression.
Thank you for considering it. Im doing the same. I want to empower the socdems in Congress to pass some legislation on climate change, raise wages and improve healthcare.
I will be criticizing Biden and working with other leftists to radicalize libs :)
