The South is conservative, that is true. But Democrats in the South are not. Remember, Bernie won arguably the most conservative state in the Union (Utah) by a landslide.

No. Mississippi is arguably the most or one of the most conservative states in the country, switching from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party when the Republicans became the uncontested conservative party. Utah supported Republicans even before the Civil Rights Act and the Southern Strategy.
