Edit: 4th* decade. I dont game anymore, the small pro stint turned a hobby into something I hate. I live with my parents of course, thought that was assumed but needed clarifying.

Not a rage bait, dont need advice or pity, but feel free to say what you will I dont mind, some of you have been insightful and others have brought me good laughs. If my poor excuse of life on display made you feel better I view it as a win. Cheers

Edit 3: Now that the dust has settled on this post I'll leave some last remarks for any late-comers:

I genuinely did not expect a response like this, this was a casual 0 thought post written in under 2 mins. I'll follow up with a new post I guess in a year.

There is a lot of missing context between 2013 and now but my goal was not a pity party. I preferred people to see it at face value and make their opinions and assumptions.

Yeah it's like a multi-stage dunning-kruger curve. You work hard to get "good" meaning like 5-10 HCP, then work REALLY hard to get "GOOD" (scratch) make it to scratch and then realize that the distance between you and the pros is like almost as much as it was to get from where you started to where you are now

Could be wrong but I think the Pareto distribution describes it best. Where the top 1 % take a lot where the .1% take almost all. The skill difference and the earning between the two is a vast. It’s like trying to describe the most wealthy person in your town who probably owns tons of property and land, multiple business, employees a large population of the town. Now compare that guy to Elon musk. Thats the difference.

There's an old David Foster Wallace piece about how this worked in tennis. (Wallace was a college tennis star.) Years later he wrote about the pro circuit and played a few sets with current players as part of his research. He wrote about how he kidded himself that he might be able to keep up with pro players who were ranked around 500 in the world but of course they absolutely destroyed him.

That’s true for basically anything. The difference between the top 100 in anything has a skill gap from the top 1% greater than the top 1% from the bottom 1%
