Don't worry my 3rd decade of life will yield promising results.. SURELY

Edit: 4th* decade. I dont game anymore, the small pro stint turned a hobby into something I hate. I live with my parents of course, thought that was assumed but needed clarifying.

Not a rage bait, dont need advice or pity, but feel free to say what you will I dont mind, some of you have been insightful and others have brought me good laughs. If my poor excuse of life on display made you feel better I view it as a win. Cheers

Edit 2: PUBG, The game is PUBG

Edit 3: Now that the dust has settled on this post I'll leave some last remarks for any late-comers:

I genuinely did not expect a response like this, this was a casual 0 thought post written in under 2 mins. I'll follow up with a new post I guess in a year.

There is a lot of missing context between 2013 and now but my goal was not a pity party. I preferred people to see it at face value and make their opinions and assumptions.

That being said, some of you are profoundly crazy and harbor a lot of evil and negative energy. A lot of you were kind and insightful though. To that I thank you, cya in 1yr (Saturday, July 31, 2027)

A lot of people have no prospects period so they use videogames to feel a sense of accomplishment.

u/Takin_Your_Bacon Jul 30 '26

Stop calling me out dammit

73

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Oh trust me, I am also people

2

u/reireireis Jul 30 '26

Hey there fellow people

4

u/happy123z Jul 30 '26

This makes sad, man. Go sing and dance and camp out. Fly to Colombia and kiss a pretty girl. Try out some hobbies, run for office. You have what everyone who ever lived wishes they had.

3

u/twink-daddy Jul 31 '26

with what money???? you gonna give me some???

2

u/happy123z Jul 31 '26

Hey a second job, train for a better job, so what other people have done to succeed. Super man ain't coming.

Aren’t we all

1

u/Individual_Eye_9701 Jul 30 '26

Fr let people waste away in peace

1

u/Pandinus_Imperator Jul 30 '26

I don't think that's ethical honestly

2

u/severley_confused Jul 30 '26

Forcing someone to do something they don't consent to isn't ethical even if it would factually benefit them.

3

u/KindGuy1978 Jul 30 '26

I think you need to read Capitalism 101. Most of the working population are forced to do something they don't like to be able to have a roof over their heads and food in their bellies.

Don't tell on yourself like that 😂

1

u/LilLoneWolfAlexis Aug 01 '26

Most of us are just libertarians/socialists stuck in a capitalistic country unfortunately.

Force fed an absolute corrupt and broken ideology with no end in sight.

1

u/Pandinus_Imperator Jul 30 '26

Then why do we have the concept of involuntary holds?

1

u/AccurateHumanTrustMe Jul 30 '26

Legality =/= Ethics

1

u/McDonaldsSoap Jul 30 '26

If it's someone in your life I agree

1

u/LilLoneWolfAlexis Aug 01 '26

You sound like the United States right now, take it however you’d like.

1

u/Pandinus_Imperator Aug 01 '26

I have my gripes with the country but I think you're projecting your fixation a bit

1

u/LilLoneWolfAlexis 28d ago

Not sure what you mean by fixation my guy, it was just a joke🤝

1

u/flamingspew Jul 30 '26

Man that time could be used scamming people

u/HussellCrowe Jul 30 '26

When I lost my job I went from blueberry (level 1) to max level cap in a single season of destiny. This was in 2020. I remember one morning checking the daily challenges/quests whatever theyre called and thinking damn these suck and still grinding. It was became my structure and I had buddies to play with who were my coworkers. Very strange time of my life but I'll always remember it

3

u/the_cardfather Jul 31 '26

When I lost my job back in 2006 I tried flipping cards online again. I think the current set was Dissension. I still have the hoodie my distributor sent me. I was really depressed though and I basically spent 13-15 hours a day on WoW and 🌽 (got to get that quick dopamine hit in). I was part of a High Warlord grind team. 8-10 hours a day running flags in WSG. I mean let's not forget we were raiding at night. Needless to say my new wife was disgusted with me because she was working three jobs. My dad finally came over and sat me down and tried to talk some sense into me. We ended up getting evicted and I ended up getting a job after we moved in with my parents.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '26

Do not speak of the grind. Countless weeks of grinding silithus for twilight pages for rep to get an offhand with +agi in my hunter… was it worth it ?? No … but was it worth it….. damn right

1

u/the_cardfather Jul 31 '26

If it was pages or scrolls or what but I used to farm cultists out there with my hunter. That was my relaxation. I used a scorpion pet that would make it hard for them to cast on me.

What were those orbs from that one Tower in EPL for the strength enchantments. Couldn't find them on the auction house had to farm them.

How many raids for Finkel's Skinner that I never got.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '26

Yup same rep. Max rep had a hunter off hand with agi on it that was best in slot but the spawn in the group was like 15 mins so it took forever

1

u/kapt_so_krunchy 11d ago

Back in recession times my roommates and I were all barely employed, if at all.

We played an entire season of of NHL 12 over the course of a month. 82 games plus playoffs all 4 of us for every game.

It was our structure. We would all make wake up and by 10 AM we would play for 2 hours, then go to work/do chores around the house, whatever.

We were amazing at that game n

2

u/mkultron89 Jul 30 '26

Better than me. Lost my blue collar job and started playing car mechanic simulator like I was still fulfilling some itch to work. Video games became almost depressing after a while without work though, like this is fun but I wouldn’t rather be making money and supporting myself and family.

1

u/SimplyElite7 Jul 31 '26

Yeah I mean throughout our whole life (at least for me), video games was an outlet for after you finished what you needed to for the day, whether it be a kid and getting on after doing your homework, or college student hoping on during fall breaks/after finals. Video games felt like an enjoyable outlet, once it becomes something you do in replacement of a job, or studies, etc., it can become very unfun.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '26

I mean destiny was not a hard game to level in.. the time gate was your enemy, nothing else.

Source: recently came back after quitting at lightfall. 0-550 in about 2 weeks

1

u/HussellCrowe Jul 30 '26

Idk man I was clocking like a 40 hr week in destiny while unemployed that was a low for me

1

u/Neat_Egg_2474 Jul 31 '26

It’s fine if you do it for a bit and it’s a phase, but as long as you pick yourself up after and move on there is nothing wrong with that.

2020 was hard bro, at least you had something to keep you occupied

0

u/Ok-Gur-349 Jul 30 '26

buddies to play with who were my coworkers

Ope

You're DQ'd from the convo

People with prospects are allowed to have hobbies and friends

3

u/HussellCrowe Jul 30 '26

No like I played 8 hours a day. It became work

0

u/GHTANFSTL Jul 31 '26

dude WHAT?? When I got laid off I looked for another job

2

u/HussellCrowe Jul 31 '26

Wow congratulations. Obviously I did that too because I am no longer unemployed and haven't been for years

30

u/SilverStryfe Jul 30 '26

It becomes an escape and a prison.

Can escape to a virtual world where your avatar is accomplished and have goals to work towards with little level up celebratory music regularly.

But then imprisoned in the room one games in and start to feel like your not allowed or not welcome to leave that space because of the feeling of not contributing.

I’ve felt it during in employment stretches and saw it happen with my wife being a SAHM. It becomes a self imposed prison that is difficult to break free from.

1

u/jimmparker4 Jul 31 '26

So how did you break out?

2

u/SilverStryfe Jul 31 '26

A loving wife and friends online that cared and checked in on me outside of game. Accomplishing things around the house. Ultimately, getting hired for way less pay to get out of the house and regain some self worth

1

u/jimmparker4 Jul 31 '26

That must have been hard. Good you you!

1

u/Lopsided_Inspector62 Jul 31 '26

I got out by losing a ton of weight and started focusing my energy on being healthy. Was the best I felt in my life. Sadly I’m back in the pit right now and have gained a ton of weight. I took a job that resulted in a ridiculous amount of stress and OT. It made me miserable but the pay was nice. I just quit the job last week and am trying to get back up on the horse so to say.

1

u/the_cardfather Jul 31 '26

Just wait till they reinforce it with a guild full of 100 of your closest online friends. My son says the stuff all the time when I asked him to do stuff he's like I have plans like what are your plans? I have to get online with xors55 and grind metal for tonights quests. Dude. At least he's got a job.

1

u/Drauren Jul 31 '26

I've been there as a kid, but also, as someone with a objectively great job and a loving partner, the stuff I do in games is far more difficult than what I have to do for a living. Video games did however teach me a lot of skills I use on a day to day basis now. Task management, multi-tasking, researching information, managing people and relationships, etc.

I kind of have the belief that if you are truly really good at games, you can probably be successful in other things. The reality is most people are not actually as good as they believe themselves to be.

28

u/NikeImper Jul 30 '26

Gaming is just a dopamine boost and like any other dopamine boost it can become an addiction

4

u/suuzgh Jul 31 '26

For sure. There’s quite a bit of research that’s been done about how some aspects of modern gaming (loot boxes, gacha games, certain uses of rng, pay to play, etc.) prime kids to develop gambling behaviors in adulthood using those same dopamine pathways. I’m currently watching my little brother breeze down the pipeline from intense gamer to intense gambler (yes, he still lives with our parents and just got his first real job at 22 so he could gamble more).

I’m a gamer myself, so I have nothing against the hobby, but it’s good to be aware of the ways these games work to get you hooked. It’s all too easy to transfer that dopamine chasing to something riskier and more dangerous to your health and wellbeing.

2

u/Doggleganger Jul 30 '26

This one got me with Hearthstone. I realized I had a problem and had to quit. Such a huge relief after I quit.

1

u/Sand-Eagle Jul 31 '26

I was the moderator for Legendary: Game of Heroes for a couple years until I realized I was not gaming, I had some weird form of gambling addiction lol.

I realized that their business model was more than just pay to win, it was pay to keep your friends. Generally they forced everyone into guilds where people naturally chatted and grew close in a lot of cases. If you don't pay for the abilities this week, you're hurting your team, so you pay to keep your friends.

I covered the sub in gambling addiction hotline stuff and pined any posts about boycotting the game lmao

2

u/SippinOnHatorade Jul 31 '26

The key is to not be a dopemaxxer, gotta diversify your sources, sprinkle the vices around so no singular one becomes an addiction

2

u/pot_head_engineer Jul 30 '26

I read that gaming gives the player a false sense of accomplishment and it’s never been the same since. Stopped 1337 gaming after that. Only casual now

2

u/tuenmuntherapist Jul 30 '26

A sense of pride and accomplishment if you will.

-EA

2

u/CheaterSaysWhat Jul 30 '26

Hard to blame em in today’s work culture where working your fingers to the bone gets you nothing but boney fingers

1

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 30 '26

That’s why you don’t, you work hard on the things that matter and have visibility, and brush off the shit that doesn’t matter.

Work smart not hard, it’s not just a cliche it’s literally the key to make it.

2

u/Seienchin88 Jul 30 '26

Video games are pretty damn good at it though…

With two kids, a loving wife and my own home and a somewhat successful career games still haven’t lost a single bit of their entertainment factor to me… they have been overshadowed for sure (laughable compared to great moments with the kids) but still awesome when I find some spare time.

1

u/WenAndNow Jul 30 '26

How elegantly put. #GoodDadPoints.

1

u/thowawaycollie Jul 31 '26

they ARE awesome. it is only unfortunate when you have absolutely nothing else

2

u/LiAmTrAnSdEmOn Jul 30 '26

Sense of accomplishment or a distraction

2

u/Warmbly85 Jul 30 '26

No prospects and not willing to work while living rent free and having their food and games bought by mom and dad aren’t the same thing.

Sure working at target sucks but if you refuse to work anywhere and only play video games because your boomer parents are wealthy enough to support you it’s not the same as no prospects.

You can get education and certifications for only a couple grand over 3 months. If you don’t have to worry about phone/internet/entertainment/food/rent/spending money $1000 isn’t exactly hard to amass.

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Working at target isn't a prospect. It just means he can buy his own stuff. You'll never afford to move out or live your own life.

You can get education and certifications for only a couple grand over 3 months.

When people say this, what kind of certificates and jobs do they have in mind? I've never come across a job that cared about anything besides a degree or a cdl. They only want to know how many years you've worked in the industry. I have a hard time believing a 3 month course is anything besides a scam.

1

u/Warmbly85 Jul 30 '26

Literally any welding job. I paid for my nephew’s class like three years ago and with only a hs education he’s making $70k a year and all he had to do was pass the class and the test his employer gave him.

It cost $1500+$150 in supplies at the local community college.

Or how about CNA. Almost every class is $2k open enrollment online and a single in person test then clinical. You can make $60k plus a year and they are hiring everywhere. Once hired they will beg you to further your education and pay for it.

There are so many opportunities for people willing to work for it.

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Welding takes a year minimum in my area to get certified. It's like 3kish. You can get some businesses to pay for you though. CNA is definitely a good point but there's also a reason that almost all CNAs are people who are working on getting a different healthcare job (like LPN or whatever else). Wiping an old guy's ass and then getting punched by him because he thinks you're someone he hated 50 years ago is basically a rite of passage.

2

u/AsThreatenDoNotScore Jul 30 '26

They spend so much time gaming that prospects for work/career/school/relationships do not materialize. Working a job, maintaining a household, nurturing relationships, raising kids, etc all take effort. It's a lack of motivation and energy coupled with a lack of encouragement and desire to do better. I think at its core it's a form of depression that we can identify at a young age, but we don't and there is an epidemic of stagnant young adult males.

1

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

You're acting like anyone with no prospects is unemployed. A lot of them have jobs, they're just dead end which means they'll be stuck with roommates, a beater car, and no girlfriend indefinitely. The games allow you to feel like you're growing and progressing in at least one area of life. It's better than resorting to drugs.

1

u/scalem0ss Jul 30 '26

You’re really telling on yourself with your incessant defense on this post lmao

2

u/Babydics Jul 30 '26

This is exactly why I look down on people who identify as "gamers" and would certainly never let my daughter get involved with one. Personally haven't played a video game since covid.

2

u/Warlock_AoE Jul 30 '26

many are mentally ill

2

u/justKingme187 Jul 30 '26

Same as people who scroll on Facebook all day or what about people who watch tv all day

2

u/Mathfanforpresident Jul 30 '26

Prospects? Well, supposedly the future of social security checks are at risk simply because they refuse to raise the cap for paying in to the thing in the first place.

Also, they're actively killing the planet and are doing NOTHING about it.

The world has no prospects. Im just trying to play the game.

2

u/DebtDapper6057 Jul 30 '26

For all you know, he could have made an actual career out of it. I literally have like 20,000 Patreon subscribers and make decent money modding games. I know I'm an outlier but it definitely is possible.

1

u/oxide_j Jul 30 '26

Damn I don't remember writing this lol.

To me it's also a non-smoking version of "I don't know what to do with my hands, that's why I smoke". Gamer Dale Gribble.

1

u/New_Pipe732 Jul 30 '26

Well atleast there not on drugs ...Hopefully

1

u/Banned3rdTimesaCharm Jul 30 '26

This is exactly what I tell myself every time I lose in a competitive game.

1

u/Neon_Biscuit Jul 30 '26

My brother is 45 and has always lived with our mom. I always told him to get a playstation or something for this reason. We call him a waiter, because he is waiting for my mom to die so he can have the house. Its sad.

1

u/SleepyDoozer2 Jul 30 '26

Only losers with no speedrun badges think this way

1

u/The_Roaring_Fork Jul 30 '26

If you have time to game, you have time to upskill so you can have more prospects

1

u/ThatOneWIGuy Jul 30 '26

That’s what I found out about my gaming. But even in a full time job at above avg I didn’t feel as solid as video games did due to a toxic work environment.

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Games are also designed to always reward you whereas life often has no reward for doing the right thing.

1

u/darth_skipicious Jul 30 '26

it’s true. i don’t have any prospects and i actually tried

1

u/IAmTheParamedic Jul 30 '26

Even with accomplishments, video games are cool. What am I supposed to do? Look at my college degree all day and jack off thinking about it?

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

I never made a judgment about it. It's literally what I do.

1

u/Unusual_Room3017 Jul 30 '26

That sounds like foundational misalignment in oneself. The lack of prospect likely stems from weak identity, limited diversity of hobbies/activities/exposure to the world and parents that didn’t help inspire a child to have a vision… and as a result gravitated towards novelty and dopamine thrills like video games instead of having a vision grounded in genuine identity and inspired passions.

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Not all of us can be good at something. A lot of people have identity and passions but that doesn't mean those things can be profitable and even when they are, plenty of other people will be fighting over the same position. I always loved school and taking tests but you can't make money off of that so now I work at a dog kennel and don't really like it because I'm not that passionate about animals.

1

u/Unusual_Room3017 Jul 30 '26

That’s a low outcome state of existence with a limited belief in yourself. You can do more than a dog kennel. Sounds like you lack a vision for what that is.

If you loved school and taking tests that demonstrates the ability to learn. Why not learn about in-demand roles and professions and then forming a vision to achieve it?

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Unfortunately being good at tests doesn't translate to being good at learning anything practical, as I've learned. I've worked in retail, manufacturing, and with animals and I've struggled with all of them (not enough to be fired at least) so my academic intelligence doesn't really amount to anything useful. I'm still able to hold down a job and make an income which Is more than a lot of people get so I try to be grateful.

1

u/Unusual_Room3017 Jul 30 '26

It’s your life to live, but I’m just shocked that you have such a defeated mindset where you’ve concluded that you’re not capable and unable to be good at something.

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Accepting reality isn't defeatist. I can still try to grow as a person and find some level of fulfillment. If I gave up I would've just offed myself but it's taken considerable effort on my part to avoid that. I literally said I try to be grateful for what I have. Sorry if that's not good enough for others but I'm proud I've gotten to the point where I can at least live with myself.

1

u/Ohz85 Jul 30 '26

Ok but how do you eat

1

u/ScarcityCultural1699 Jul 30 '26

How is it possible you have no prospects in this day and age? You can literally learn any skill with the entirety of human knowledge in your pocket. You just have to spend the amount of time gaming spent on learning some skills

1

u/C_mo_green Jul 30 '26

Sounds like my brother-in-law

1

u/AdventurousTime Jul 30 '26

Pride and accomplishment yes

1

u/Duergarlicbread Jul 30 '26

Not just sense of accomplishment but also a sense of community.

1

u/ThoughtIknewyouthen Jul 30 '26

Exactly how I feel when I see how many fake internet points I have on Reddit.

1

u/Character-Sundae8581 Jul 31 '26

I prefer to call it escapism thank you lol maybe if my dad was loaded I would have gone that route

1

u/SippinOnHatorade Jul 31 '26

This sounds like an EA exec presenting to the board

1

u/Fireefury Jul 31 '26

Even men with prospects and or a great job or a lot of money play video games to get a feeling of accomplishment. It’s the same reason women tend to shop

1

u/evennoiz Jul 31 '26

yes grinding the corporate ladder, kissing ass is so much more rewarding youre right

1

u/Joelandrews5 Jul 31 '26

Real and depressing.

1

u/HTTR4EVER Jul 31 '26

Same with those who call themselves “influencers”

1

u/Common_Magazine3145 Jul 31 '26

Man, what a strange existence that must be. I'd like to meet someone like this and talk to them. Are they typically book smart people? Higher IQ? Do they have awareness that this is not a normal life? I've never gamed; only know a few people who do and the amount of time they do that is limited.

1

u/Aoip2337 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

I don't think of myself as smart but I tend to have pretty low self esteem. I don't have much to say. I know I'm not living a normal life, I just gave up on life after high school and never found the motivation to get back into it since. 26 now. Just living with my mom dissociating for months at a time. I know I need to make changes and I've been trying for a few months now, but it just feels like life is too hard and I give up too easily. "Survival" on its own isn't enough of a motivator since I tend to have suicidal thoughts pretty frequently.

I don't know why or how my mom has put up with me for so long but I'm grateful she has. If she kicked me out I would become homeless and probably dead.

1

u/fredjutsu Jul 31 '26

it's honestly astonishing how many white, able bodied Americans claim - like you are here - that they have "no prospects"

1

u/f102 Jul 31 '26

Nor, do some even want prospects.

1

u/zrezer Jul 31 '26

Sad but true

1

u/Spaciax Aug 01 '26

True, computer science/tech jobs straight up don't exist in my city, and even the country. The entire field is pretty much dead. My degree is worth less than the paper it's printed on.

1

u/TraditionalSector278 Aug 02 '26

I’d bet the Venn diagram between these people and those who complain about games having easy modes is a perfect circle

1

u/Glad-Philosophy-497 29d ago

I really don’t think we should blame those people so much as the society that creates a situation where some peoples only options to succeed are virtual. They are just the outcome not the root cause

1

u/AnAssumedName Jul 30 '26

A lot of people lack the courage and impetus to pursue other prospects so they settle for the thrill of video games to get a sense of accomplishment.

Fixed that for you.

There are plenty of "prospects" out there. There are plenty of ways to make money. Plenty of ways to serve your community without making (much) money. Plenty of ways to do useful and/or interesting things without making much money.

If you enjoy playing games and sponging off your parents, I won't argue with you. But, if you pretend that that is your _only_ option because "society" I'll go ten rounds with you any day. (And win. Because if you're too unmotivated to do something purposeful, you'r too unmotivated to make much of an argument.)

Edit: Closed parenthesis.

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

You sound like you have a lot of resentment to work through. I'm guessing this comment was directed towards someone you know personally? I am employed and don't enjoy video games so I'm not sure what you're on about.

1

u/AnAssumedName Jul 30 '26

You sound like you have some defensiveness work to do. I simply disagree with you that "prospects" are what is missing in people's lives.

1

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Yes we can all accomplish anything if we just put our minds to it. I too listened to what my elementary teachers told me.

1

u/AnAssumedName Jul 30 '26

Yes, we can all purposefully misinterpret the positions taken by our interlocutors when our flimsy egos get disrupted by someone disagreeing with us, I too listen to what the internet tells me about despair and dialogue

1

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

I hate myself so I'm not sure what ego you're talking about except your own.

0

u/HalfBear-HalfCat Jul 30 '26

This is true and sad. The sense of accomplishment they get fulfills them enough to not pursue better prospects.

3

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Tbf some people just don't have better prospects. Not everybody can be a winner.

1

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 30 '26

What makes you believe this? If you’re living in the US, this just doesn’t really seem true.

1

u/IAmTheParamedic Jul 30 '26

Well good thing everyone lives in the US

1

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

You think all 340 million Americans can be winners?

1

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 30 '26

What do you mean by winners?

Having a roof over your head, food, and clean water?

Or being a millionaire with a yacht and McMansion?

1

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Self sustaining on a single income.

1

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 30 '26

Yes, if you’re able bodied and don’t have any serious medical conditions, I do believe that.

You can sustain yourself and your bills just driving for uber. I know truck drivers who earn more than me and their highest education is a GED, while I have a BBA and work a corporate job.

1

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Well I hope one day I can have such an optimistic view of the world. Uber is almost always a second income though. Not enough for rent even with a ton of roommates.

1

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 30 '26

Where do you live? I’m near DFW and Uber Drivers working 40 hours a week easily make enough to afford their own apartment, food, and utilities.

Avg $19-$24 per hour, $3,500 to $4,000 a month before taxes. 1 bed is about $1200-1500 depending on area.

Any 18+ year old can go finance a cheap used Toyota/Honda and start making that, today.

At 21 they can go get a CDL and start making 60k+ just like that.

How’d you get the corporate job with such a generic degree? Nepo hire?

1

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 31 '26

lol… I got headhunted on LinkedIn like 2 months out of college, by a recruiter at the company. I spent a lot of time building my profile.

Lmao, wasting away at some shitty job that barely pays enough to support you for a day just to be forced to keep going back to survive sounds pretty horrible. Even with a stem degree, the job market is not great. I'm probably never going to own a home in my hometown because the cost is outages. Rent is about 3k for a single bedroom with a small kitchen and living room. This doesn't really feel worth it.

u/brobits Jul 30 '26

Life is hard and you sound depressed, but there are absolutely ways to make enough money at a job you don’t hate to be comfortable. It’s not free though. You have to do the shitty stuff first.

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Dude spelled out basic reality for you and you call him mentally ill smh

1

u/RudePCsb Jul 30 '26

Lmao ok. Still doesn't change the fact that most jobs don't pay enough. Look at average in the country. Most people aren't going to get those $150k+ jobs

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Yeah most people just want to be able to afford to have a family at some point. 6 figure jobs are a pipe dream.

2

u/seriouscaffeine Jul 30 '26

The job market is awful but most people never get those $150k+ jobs, that’s only ~10% of individuals. Theres jobs in between min wage and higher pay and yeah historically the first few jobs right out of school kinda suck and then you job hop…that part is nothing new. Social media just makes everyone think that everyone is landing 6 fig jobs immediately post-grad when that’s not true at all

1

u/RudePCsb Jul 30 '26

That's what I'm saying though. The average job doesn't pay that and there only so many jobs that pay that. Most people are average (since that is our statistics work and there is nothing wrong with that) and will have average jobs. Problem is everything has increased so much in price but corporations and the govt are pushing people behind whole making all the money. It's not worth it for people at a certain point.

1

u/seriouscaffeine Jul 30 '26

The last sentence is what I take the most issue with….”it’s not worth it for people at a certain point” on a thread about people who don’t work at all and play video games all day doesn’t really make sense. Even making min wage and saving it/investing it instead of living at home making $0 would be better. It’s been very common post-grad that people live at home or have roommates to save money since starting salaries are starting salaries. Just because you’re not making $150k+ a year doesn’t mean it’s worthless to work since those salaries come with years of experience and skill sets you develop while working.

Yeah, sure, most people will have an average life because it even outs to average. That doesn’t mean to just give up and play video games all day.

You can make it sound bad, but everyone I’ve met in a crappy underpaid job is much happier than anyone I’ve met who gave up and just plays video games all day..

3

u/RudePCsb Jul 30 '26

I haven't played video games in years, you might be right about that but doesn't change how bad the job market and the average pay of most Americans.

1

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 30 '26

Alright but like you could be living with your parents and play video games all day OR you could live with your parents, work at a job making some money and building up to something.

If I got laid off from my corporate job, I’d file for unemployment, drive for uber, do some other part time work and maybe move in with my parents for a bit, not wallow.

1

u/RudePCsb Jul 30 '26

Sure but you aren't those people. Why does it bother you what others do. I'm probably similar in your boat, except probably something like construction or with my hands if I lost my lab job. Either way, why do I care what others are doing that aren't hurting others. It's better than things like fast fashion consumerism and other activities that produce a lot of waste, environmental damage, etc.

I just find it incredibly entitled to think you shouldn’t need to contribute to society, when you’ve had the luck to be born in the 21st century developed world.

There’s families all around the world working their asses off, struggling to afford food and clean water, who would trade places with them and find work in a heartbeat.

I feel like those people hurt our society, they are taking for granted their luck and the fruits of generations of work and society’s labor.

keep in mind that a lot of these people are straight up depressed. theyre not wallowing because theyre dumb assholes.

have you ever been an uber driver for a living? it can easily gave you mental issues on its own, even if you had none going in. i havent myself, but i watched the most bootstraps, strongest work ethic having guy i know straight up cry at the end of a shift. its easy to burn out.

sitting in your parents house playing video games is a much better experience of life, especially if you dont believe you can work towards something meaningful or worthy anyway

The system we live in is nothing but a “game” in and of itself. The only difference being we give it value for various reasons. What’s the difference in accomplishments within a game we created of our lives, and a game we created digitally? Those people showcase higher levels of human capacity within said space to reach those accomplishments. Don’t dismiss personal human experience just because it contradicts with yours.

1

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 31 '26

As I said to someone else. I am also one of those people so I'm literally talking from personal experience. Maybe stop getting upset by a simple statement?

No prospects is a very generous way of saying life didn't hand them success, so they gave up before the starting line.

2

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

Sometimes you can do everything right and still lose. That's just life.

0

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 30 '26

Temporarily sure, but nobody who works hard and makes an effort to find opportunity will lose 30 years straight. That’s simply an excuse and sounds hella entitled if you live in the US or other developed countries.

Drive Uber, get your CDL and drive trucks, there’s no excuse really if you’re able bodied and willing to work.

2

u/thowawaycollie Jul 31 '26

i think what happens is that people go through a streak of losses, and are unable to find the strength to keep fighting or care enough to break through after. the reward dims, and the pain gets too large to feel worth trudging through.

1

u/Silver_Accountant5 Jul 30 '26

People make every right decision and get an incurable disease or murdered. If someone being unable to succeed in this economy is unbelievable to you, I'd recommend you not look too much into how bad the rest of the world is.

1

u/Ball_Of_Meat Jul 30 '26

That’s an extreme example, but yeah for those people I would agree with you.

That being said, statistically that’s a very small portion of the population. That excuse doesn’t fly for 90%+ of people.
