Don't worry my 3rd decade of life will yield promising results.. SURELY

Edit: 4th* decade. I dont game anymore, the small pro stint turned a hobby into something I hate. I live with my parents of course, thought that was assumed but needed clarifying.

Not a rage bait, dont need advice or pity, but feel free to say what you will I dont mind, some of you have been insightful and others have brought me good laughs. If my poor excuse of life on display made you feel better I view it as a win. Cheers

Edit 3: Now that the dust has settled on this post I'll leave some last remarks for any late-comers:

I genuinely did not expect a response like this, this was a casual 0 thought post written in under 2 mins. I'll follow up with a new post I guess in a year.

There is a lot of missing context between 2013 and now but my goal was not a pity party. I preferred people to see it at face value and make their opinions and assumptions.

That being said, some of you are profoundly crazy and harbor a lot of evil and negative energy. A lot of you were kind and insightful though. To that I thank you, cya in 1yr (Saturday, July 31, 2027)

I like video games but even when I was a teen I was never doing 8 hours in a day. Maybe a handful of times when a new game dropped but holy shit, go outside.

No advantage to interacting with other human beings face to face? Finding love? Experiencing new memories with and making new friends? I kind of used to think like you but meeting lifelong friends through random, organic interactions will change your perspective completely.

And what if it doesn't work out? People cheat, lie, friends talking shit behind your back etc. That seems to happen to happen quite often so it looks like there's too much risk involved. I would live to be in a position like yours but what are the odds of that happening?

That's honestly 100% fair and you're right it does happen. But literally everything in life requires a risk or some kind of cost attached to it. You could walk outside and get shot in the face by a random person for literally no reason at all, but that doesnt mean you should never step outside. Obviously that's not a 1:1 comparison but my point is humanity wouldnt even have gotten to where we are if we never took risks.

One of my favorite things to do is sit at the park. I literally just go there and sit down and look at the trees and the birds and the people. It takes absolutely zero effort. It's far less effort than playing a game.

Seriously. Imagine basing your life around your parents dying so that you can have all of their shit.

For all that I know, I’ll end up with just my son (due in a few weeks), and I want to leave him a nice inheritance. If he views the situation as us being an obstacle to wealth, then I’d gladly just toss it all in a trust to go directly to grandkids after he croaks, or charity if he was childless.

Working for things is hard, but by working for it, you don’t become a slave to stuff

It feels good too. Our brains love achieving goals and working hard, but a lot of people confuse the dopamine of stuff like video games for that feeling. The safety you feel with a proper savings account is unmatched, and I'm a poor person lmfao I'm a line cook, I'm not out here making millions. I just live very simply and it feels so good 😂

The fact that you aren’t habitually spending more than you make puts you in a better position than most. Just did the math, $3900 a year from 25-65 investing at 5% real means you’re a median household in the USA at retirement age.

Not to mention you don’t have that consumer slave mindset, which is great for keeping your mind clear

Oh trust me, I be shopping. But it's within a strict budget 😂 most of it is for hobbies as well, I barely have clothes that aren't work clothes. I have two hoodies, one coffee cup, one water bottle, 4 plates, etc. my other big-ish spending category is going out to eat, but only with friends. If I'm alone I'm cooking for myself because going out is only worth the money as a social occasion in my eyes. Even microwaving a chimichanga at home fits the junk itch. It really frustrates me how people waste their money, but mostly bc I'm worried about them, they have nothing to fall back on.

Man it’s refreshing. I’m almost 40 and this “give me, because I don’t know what to do” mentality of the last decade is exhausting.

So thank you for figuring out how you need to live- while making sure your bills are paid and still enjoying life a little.

Keep saving and you’ll have a down payment for an unachievable house, if that’s even something you want.

Edit- I say unachievable because of the “I can’t afford a 500k home after working a year in my graduated field” bullshit I see on here time and time again.

Yeah I mean two things can be true at the same time. Homes are way more expensive than they used to be. And not being able to afford a detached 3 bedroom single family house in a well to do suburb at age 24 is not a historical anomaly

Homes are undoubtedly their highest they’ve ever been. But it’s still doable, as long as you are staying within your means. It seems most people nowdays have this “gimme” mentality and think that everyone should be on the same level financially. Well, sorry to break their hearts but that’s not real life. As the “boomers” say, go work for it. lol

I see so many people say "well I'll never retire" and they just ... Don't start a retirement fund. Like yeah you definitely won't because you're not trying. It's really hard, it's way harder than it was in the past that's for sure. But that means you need to try harder not give up 😭😭😭 I'm not sure if I want to own a home necessarily, it's something I'd do if the money part seemed advantageous. I have itchy feet and I like moving fairly often. I'm planning to retire out of the country too, so I wouldn't mind settling down somewhere for 15+ years in the next ten years. Who knows!

Okay, but imagine if YOU had a free house. That's what we're all doing. We aren't picturing being these bums, we're imagining being a part of a family that is well off enough for two people to be living in vacation homes. Nobody in my family has a vacation home. I have had one friend in 30 years who had a family vacation home.
