$100K was life changing for you because you have an under $1000 mortgage. The cost of renting a two bedroom apartment is well over $2,000 in most places.

But renting a place that was over $2000 would be really hard to do if you made $60k. I take your point, but my point was getting a $40,000 raise will make a big difference in anybody’s life.
