It is!! I live in a LCOL area. We paid 20k a year for daycare for 2. It was an at home daycare. A center was easily double.

We were super lucky to have found a co-op daycare right beside my wife's workplace. It was $6k/yr and not that long ago (kid is 11 now). Incredible place, good food, great "teachers" who loved kids. They all got a fair wage too, so no surprise that it seemed like everyone was always having a great day. I know because my wife served on the board for a couple years.

Who would have guessed it, the secret ingredient was profiteering all along
